| District 9 - R |
Fucking amazing! One of the few films I really want a sequel for! District 9 kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The last 40 minutes of this movie has some of the best action scenes I've seen in quite some time. The most entertaining film I've seen this summer and one of the best science fiction movies of this decade! Possibly all time. Newcomer director Neill Blomkamp is a fucking genius! But of course, this brilliant film couldn't have been made without Peter Jackson's support. He let Blomkamp do whatever he wanted. Those Hollywood executives must be pissing themselves for canceling Halo. The special effects in this film are amazing! I can't believe it has a $30 million budget. First film I've seeing recently to use it's budget effectively. (Take that, Bayformers!) The performances are great. Unknown actor, Sharlto Copley, really shined in this film... and this is his FIRST acting role. Holy shit, he needs to be in more films. I expect Oscar nominations for this movie... at least technical nominations. If not, the Academy is seriously screwed up. (Even though it already is.) Very original film. Based on the South Africa's apartheid, which was the segregated policy it held for many years... Extremely moving film. Watch now! I recommend this film to everyone! A+ |

| Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - PG |
The Harry Potter films manage to keep getting EVEN better! Wow, was this film great or what? I'm not posting a long review, but Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has everything that a film needs: character, plot, action, comedy, romance, suspense, emotion... I can keep going on and on! Expect me to go this film again. The cinematography was beautiful. I expect a nod on it from the Academy... The score was great, but I still prefer John Williams. The cast was top notch... everyone! I love Rickman, Gambon, and Broadbent especially! Overall, this film is definitely worth seeing at the cinema... TWICE! Prisoner of Azkaban is still my favorite, but this one is right behind it! A- |

| Watchmen - R |
"Nothing ever ends." Well, at least not for us fans of Watchmen. We will constantly try to look for that faithful adaptation of the celebrated comic in our lifetime. I think I have found it. Zack Snyder pulled it off. I didn't think Alan Moore's story was possible to be able to make a good film, glad I was wrong. The film is beautiful to look at. The cinematography is amazing. One of the high points of the movie. The visual effects are good, nothing innovative and groundbreaking. Dr. Manhattan looks great. Very realistic looking. Tyler Bate's score of the film is good. Simple yet fulfills the atmosphere. The musical selection tracks during the course of the film might make you scratch your head at times, but I see what Zack Snyder was trying to accomplish. The acting was great for some and okay for others. Jackie Earle Haley nails Rorschach, he did an amazing job as the chilling vigilante. He is the best in this film. Billy Crudup's Dr. Manhattan is great, you can sense his unemotional self very well. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is also great as Edward Blake/The Comedian. Patrick Wilson does a good job in playing Daniel Dreiberg (Nite Owl II). The weakest of the bunch, in my opinion were Malin Akerman as Silk Spectre II and Matthew Goode as Adrian Veidt. They were not horrible, just okay. Could have been better. In my opinion, this film is better than 300. Of course, many moviegoers who haven't read the graphic novel won't understand the complexity of the concept as much as the fans, but at least they will have an idea. This film is not for children. I was very disappointed to see many parents bringing their 9-year old kids to this movie. What the hell? Can't they see the R-rated rating? Not your typical superhero movie, Watchmen is. So don't expect an X-men type of story. Not everyone might enjoy it. As for me, I can't wait for the Director's Cut on DVD. Recommended to fans of movies such as V for Vendetta, 300, Sin City, The Matrix, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight. A- |

| The Wrestler - R |
*Review being written as soon as possible! Wow, I saw this film a long time and I still haven't written the review? Me and my procrastination... well... here it goes: Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler is a moving film about the life of Randy "The Ram" Robinson. How he lost the people he cherished due to his passion and how he got weaken by it. Mickey Rourke's performance is one for the books. It's fucking amazing. The best, in my opinion, from 2008. The Oscar was his... though, I can't judge since I haven't seen Sean Penn's performance in Milk... yet, I still think the Oscar was for Rourke. Marisa Tomei's performance is great as well as a mother who has to care for her child by being a stripper. The other supporting cast is great as well, like Evan Rachel Wood playing The Ram's daughter. The Wrestler is in my list of top films from 2008... it's a shame it did not get recognized by the Academy. This film will be remembered for as long as we can remember. |

| Taken - PG-13 |
I never thought Liam Neeson would be able to destroy Chuck Norris... this movie proved me wrong. He can beat Chuck Norris blindfolded and with his hands tied behind his back. If you're a guy, watch this movie with your friends on a boring evening with a couple of beers, it will be fucking entertaining. All the action sequences will have you laughing all the way through (well, I did) and you'll be quoting this movie after you're done. For girls, I'm not sure if they'll like it... who knows? Anyway, nothing original in this film... just a bunch of kickass! Recommended for guys with nothing to do. |

| Gran Torino - R |
It's a shame Clint Eastwood was not recognized in this film by the Academy Awards. Gran Torino was a great film... sure, it was a bit racist, but that does not stop this film from being good. The kid playing the role of "Toad" in the film needs acting lessons, but besides that the film is great. I loved seeing Clint Eastwood as the badass that he is. This movie might not be for everyone, but it's still recommended to any Eastwood fan. |

| Slumdog Millionaire - R |
Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire is one for the ages. This film is incredible. From start to finish, I was hooked all throughout. A love story that won't end up in making you feel sick like most do nowadays. The musical score is amazing in this movie. The acting is great, especially the small children. I heard the children were really from the slums of India... they must have a great future ahead of them. The cinematography is amazing as well... I think this film will take the Best Picture and Best Director award from the Academy Awards... I still got to see Frost/Nixon, and Milk... but I can tell this one will win it all. Recommended to everyone. |

| The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - PG-13 |
David Fincher's new film "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" did not disappoint even with the already high expectations I had before seeing it. This film is amazing. I hadn't felt the emotions I went through with this film in any other theater experience before. I had a knot in my throat at the end of this movie. I kept my tears inside... but I still felt all the emotions. I'm only human. The special effects in this film are great. If it isn't recognized by the academy, the academy is surely flawed then. Brad Pitt does a great job in playing the role of Benjamin, who grows younger as the years go by. Of course, you can't compare this one to the other David Fincher films... but it doesn't stop it from being amazing. This movie is on my Top of 2008 Film's list... it will not disappoint... well, at least it didn't disappoint me. |
