Very nice drama. It is the shock of the cultures, and the story of a woman caught in between the two. Very good acting, a lot of emotions.
The Ruins
R
Another teen horror movie! Did we really need this? The story is not well exploited, and besides the very good special effects, there is nothing stunning or really scary in there. Too bad for the trailer was really promissing.
Doomsday
R
In tradition of Niel Marshall's movies, there are a lot of insight from his previous work in there. The beginning is very interesting, but it seems to fall in the B-Series movies pretty early. It's a shame for it was very promissing.

Aweful, but I mean really awefulll. Don't waste your time! It is so full of .... non sense! Has absolutely no historical logic.

The Valet (La Doublure)

Cute movie, pretty funny as well. A very good performance by Gad El Maleh which proves how versatile he can be. He is as spontanious and funny as on stage!

The Wackness
by scotta great coming of age tale, set in a newyork of 1994, where changes were comin, for the good, a story of a young loner, with problems in his life, selling a lot of weed acrosss his day to make his living, and his friendship with a older pyschyologist, who has a fondness for the stuff him self, and exchanges it for some therapy time, its here they connect, but at the same time connecting with his step daughter, who he falls for, but in the old man he sees a conection, too, so lots of discussions on lifes mussings, while, living out the day, all the leads do great jobs here, kingsley, is superb, bringing a wildside to a would be boreing chractor, and josh peck, as the tortured soul youth is a great watch, the period setting of a recent past is great also, old newyork, mix tapes, all stand out,and place time perfectly, a young guy falling in love, seen many times before but a good example

The Strangers
by scotta well mde shocker, some good jumps throughout, with the tension, the setting of house is used well, and creepy bad guys, and plot points to rack up tension more, the brother coming to the house is a very good example,,the two leads scott speedman, and liv tyler are good to watch, and certainly bring something to the portrayal of the couple under siege, watching the last scenes, you genuinly feel for the charactors, and there predicatment, if your after a film with answers this isnt it, as they potray the bad guys as people with litttle motivation, which if life i guess, and certainly this film is commentating on violent america, the film does dip in suspence sometimes whenever set outside with the couple making a play fr escape, but we always end back inside, which is a winner

Somers Town
by scottshane meadows, follows up this is england with another slice of young life, and again starring this is englands thomas turgoose, and again like other meadows films this is england, dead mans shoes, and others naturalistic acting, that brings something to the table always, the two leads once they meet, are superb together, a young polish youngster and a nrthern lad discovering each other in london, its a simple story, and with a short running time , never outstays its welcome, runs veey briskly, and never dull, full of cracking dialogue, and great black and white cinematography, a simple story of friendship

I recommend you see...Just saw this for the second time, and it's even better than I remembered it. Beautiful mix of drama and comedy, with excellent performances by Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo as dysfunctional siblings, even if there isn't much of a family resemblance. Linney was nominated for Best Actress in 2000, along with Joan Allen (The Contender) and Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream). And the Oscar went to......... Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich! Another of the many atrocities committed by the Academy over the years. But, that was a hard one to swallow.

Buffalo Soldiers
by scott1989, the end of the cold war, the berlin wall is coming down, and what do a platoon of american soldiers do when there isnt a war to fight, but stuck in a foreign country, west germany in this case. they create there own, joaquin phoenix plays such a guy, living off the wealth he makes from dodgy deals hes making on the side with his team of loyal followers, and with no war going on, ed harris colonal, maybe either to dumb to notice or letting things go by. its when higher authority played by scott glen turns up, and makes out whats happening from the get go, with a higher and more risky deal on the cards, and his romance with the colonals daughter will things get to deep for phoenix. a look at the u.s army as a bunch or no clue, doped up, or bored g.is, in a situation where is there is no war and nothing to do, not sheding a good light, and when released just after 911, suffered for it, a razor sharp script, and a well observed drama both at the time and situations involved, all actors, phoenix, glen, panquin, and ed harris stand up well, but also the minor roles, especially michael pena, some great scenes of great acting, and a centrepice involving a tank on rampage is a highlight, a cracking film showing obserdaty of war when theres no war

Do the Right Thing
by scottgreat film from spike lee, his best, a very hot day and racial tensions that arise throughout, especially between sal, his two sons, and the pizza place they own in a black neighbourhood, we follow mook, played here by spike lee, as he works for sal, and living hids day on the street. nice direction throughout, showing great style for lee, a film that helped black cinema from the 80s into the 90s, with a lot of moral, racial issues brought up throughout

Elegy
by scotta great charactor study of a old college proffessor, played by ben kingsley, who woos one of his students played by penelope cruz, and as relationship grows so does his self doughts on his age and her younger age making it work, or it may be the fact he has a lover in older women played by patricia clerkson, the relationship strains under pressure, kingsley is terrific, and so is cruz, who has some acting scenes to chew on, the story is engageing, but somethings to bug, a year seminly passes during relationship, but irs never felt of told like it, and last 15 minutes will test your patience, and certainly takes half a star off, butwatch out for dennis hopper, in role as best buddy, finding a good role, hes not had in years, great to see

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
by scottegypt has gone and so has the mummy from firstr two, but a interesting charactor from jet li, takes over, brendan frazer returns in a role i always found miscast, totallt wrong, and not much better here, and maria bello, also terribly miscast as his wife, in which racheal wise played in first two, but action is well crafted, some nifty action sequences throughout, and some great c.g.i, throughout, including the climax involving two dead armys, some duff moments too, but so much better than expected
better than i thought, i wasent expecting much

by scottspain gets in on the camcorder footage shot style film, and very good it is too, a young reporter and her cameraman, spend the night with a barcelona fire department, very boring for them until a routine callo to some flats in the city, we get there awith two firemen, and it turns out a old women is behaving strangelly in her apartment, once in, she violently attacks a policeman with them, bites him in the neck, all captured on film, before we know it, from events not seen, the crew, firemen and residents are locked in the building due to health and safety reasons, and here it gets very interesing, more people start getting attacked, trhe atacked come back to bite some more and before long its wits and nerves all over as survival in building is vital, all the while there point of view all seen through a camera filming. yes this has been done before, its nolthing new, blairwitch project, did great things, and this year cloverfield took the concept to blockbuster monster movie level, even romeros diary of the dead, tried it, and heres the thing, its possible its better than all of them, the creepyness of blair witch, is all there, the apartment building, standing in for the woods, really giving of a creepy feel, you could call this a zmbie movie to some degree, and im sorry to say, much much better than diry of the dead, much more scary, very violent, and scenes of horror, thats been much better than anything lately, really tense as well, watching various people wonder halls, and apartments keeps you on your toes, and also a high deathcount considering the small cast, you never feel safe watching this film, you are in there with them, and you cant get out, also very brief at just under 80 mins, and never feels long or for that matter to short, it feels right, im sure seeing this in cinema added a dimension and maybe a extra star for me, as atmosphere really helps this film, the pacing rally is great here, and a very great use of the location to set the structure of story, and the ending, the last scene, oh boy, creepy, i dont wanna spend the night there
saw in cinema now on dvd, loosing half a star for a loss of inpact to dvd, but stil a great film,

The Dark Knight
by scottfirst the good, all performances are top notch, bale as batman, brings more to the role after batman begins, with a new worry to deal with, ledger as the joker, a great villain, very manic, and bringing new levels, and eckhart as harvey dent, is superb, in what should have been a origin story only. the opening was superb and it looked as if michael mann had stepped into directors chair, with a superb bank heist, superb set pieces throughout, a great batmobile/ batbike chase being highglight, but where lessons were learned after terible 90 sequels, it seems they might be going same way, firstly, as good as vilains are, having 2 spoils things, the joker is great, but we have to leave him especially in 3rd act for two face and vice versa, and it doesent work, it spoiled spiderman 3, and things probely will get worse for 3rd batman, the city is no longer a strong charactor like begins, and i miss that, and some scenes dont belong, the china sequence, and batman on his yaught for example, and maybe a little to much police corruption story going on, oh and gadgets, please stop with the crappy gadgets, hell have nipples next, and racing stripes, all in all a flawed film, throughout but with enough exiting moments throughout, the last 40 odd minutes being biggest casualty, so from my point of view, theres been a little to much praising of the joker due to ledgers death to justify a great film, a single performance does not make a great film,
yes a 3 and a half rating for dark night, come on bring it on, a great joker performance does not make a classic film

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
by scotta enjoyable hollywood retelling of robin hood, the famous english outlaw, costner portrays him as a hollywood star only could, and even though his american acent stasnds out a mile, he just about gets away with it, thanks to the film being a enjoyable romp, in no small way is alan rickman as sheriff of nottingham out to capture the hood, in a brilliant over the top performance, with classic lines like, AND CALL OF CHRISTMAS. he is a pantomine villain of the highest callibre, some great support throughout also, christian slater, trying his best, and morgan freeman, doing his usuall wise man role, and the lovely mary elizebeth mastrantonio rounding things off as maid marian, oh and a great cameo right at the end. some exellent set pieces throughout, great locations shot in the u.k, showing off some great history. watch it and be entertained and dont grumble if your english, and hollywood has raped your history, this wasent the first and certainly wasent the last, hello braveheart.
costner does robin hood with a american acent, whats not to love,,,god bless him

by scottwilliam h macy will never top his roles in the likes of fargo boogie nights and magnolia but hes found a place in tv movies, door to door,,a slight case of murder,, panic,, and focus being notable aceptions, and heres another, in which he co wrote as a mute, who comes into contact with a homeless girl, and takes her in, trying his best to get a secure home, as always macy is a acting talent, no words but ful of emotion, a story that never rises above tv movie status, but a enjoyable piece

Donkey Punch
by scott3 english girls meet 4 english lads in spain and are taken for a great time on a yaught, but things turn for the worse when one of the girls is killed during a sex act, by one of the guys, a so called donkey punch, now with the girls stuck there with the guys what could go down is any bodys business, will sides be taken, a nice little thriller, putting abunch of people on a boat and watch the results when a little murder is thrown in the mix, sides are imediatly drawn, due to the friendships, and fear strikes in, as to what is the best thing to do, with the body and aftermath, things get very paranoid to say the least, a good set up here, all charactors are well covered, the girls showing range in sexuality and eventual distress, while the lads showing a edge but simpathy, all great performances as well, and considering the location, the story and circumstances come off well, some nice deaths also,

Out of the Blue (Aramoana)
by scotttrue life acount of a rampage by a gunman in a small new zealand town called aramoana, the incident caused around 13 deaths which included 3 children of very young ages, shot to death, the film grittinly tells the lead up and eventual rampage and police hunt amunst the dead of night, the film is straight and to the point, does not give a easy time for the real life charactor who went crazy, and, and the shootings them selves are given reality which is needed, no heros here and no cowardly vivtims for the sake of it, all seems genuin, a simple but inportant aproach to a real and devastating story

by scottremember shawn of the dead and the news story at end, where zombies end up doing ordinary dull jobs, well here we see a example of this, set in 50s america, theres been a zombie war, and america won,and lost and in the aftermath, new towns maintained, by zomcom a security compan, dealing in control and destruction of zombies, who are now slaves to the general public, with this 50s set life theres a new everday zombie dealings to deal with, zombies are a everyday normal ocurence, kids learn weapon skills, and from 12 can carry a gun, a great look at how crazy life can be, we follow one family as they get a new zombie, and learn to love it, as he also loves back, and when things go bad, great comedic set pieces involving out of control zombies eating people and general mayhem, all done within a inocent or communist 50s setting depending hgow you loook at it, some exellent horror moments although not outright disgusting, very familier to shaun of the dead fans, and im sure george romero of the dead series will chuckle at this, and any fans, of the romero films. a great concept handled well, had me chuckling out loud quite a few times
if you liked shaun of the dead, give this a go
