Love and Anger - Unrated Fantastic, I love how a short film always allow the director to put his obsession and most daring suit on, allowing whatever form he wants and doing it how he wants. That's what I like about this kind of films, we see the wild side, the avant-garde by directors who are intelligent and fascinating and who make wonderful films. I recommend this to anyone, to watch it closely and just be mezmerized by its agit-props and emotional theatre, its re-interpretation of tragedy and its importance as a chronological piece of the era. Lakeview Terrace - PG-13 There were moments in this film where you saw some semblance of talent, but really, it just fails at too many angles and becomes a rather stilted thriller of sorts, dull and simply metaphorical and overall, just plain and tepid. December 28, 2009

Ye yan (Legend of the Black Scorpion) (The Banquet) - Unrated No doubt it is resplendent, but as an epic in the vein of the traditional epics, which I assumes it tries to take from, it fails in many ways but yet succeeds, though not admirably. I was absolutely happy to see a film that takes the epic seriously, with its flamboyance and artifice, but yet, the entire moral as a whole is just a waste, it disappoints more than once and by the end, you feel a little disappointed. For a story where tales of incest and revenge is the norm, something dramatic and drastic must be held, but in here, the drastic is just a dagger thrown in without much acting. December 27, 2009

Dorian Gray - Unrated Though I have the book and other works by Oscar Wilde, I have yet to step up to it, for reasons unsure. This film though is, if judged just as a film, inept. Its stylized form is neither highly stylized nor held up well and overall, it's a film not worth anything. Nothing to see, no dazzle and the director had no vision, in form nor content. I will add that the stupid thing about the cigarette and its health costs was plain stupid, I mean, even Family Guy did a better anti-smoking ad. I will add that the shots for some of the decadent scenes and the costumes were some of the highlights, pretty much carried the film I dare say. December 27, 2009

Crank 2: High Voltage - R I like it when film0makers take a stab and they took a hell of a lot here. A fun film with many fun elements and over-the-top rides into nowhere and everywhere, a life of so much splendour but yet, who actually would alike a dose of the Chinese shit? December 27, 2009

Berlin Alexanderplatz - Unrated Utterly fantastic. Watched this a long time ago and the name Biberkopf still stays in my mind. An epic and yet a simple tale with modernistic assemblage of psychology and philosophy, this film is an outright masterpiece in every sense and really a film to watch for those at all interested in good films or for a stoned-out experience. The Convent (O Convento) - Unrated A mysterious movie, its Gothic atmosphere imbued with a heavy assemblage of pulp-like fantasies, that is almost like a Lang film, camp and yet, dictated in a artistry of Oliveira that owes a lot to literature and plays. I absolutely adored the female characters in here and Deneuve does so well here, an actress who works in multiple types of films and one who is so endearing, a typical unhappy female who is displeased for the wrong reasons, as seen in 'A Christmas Tale' and in 'Belle du Jour', both at varying tail-ends of her career. Using her is the antithesis of using Swinton. Swinton carries a film on her shoulders but Deneuve, she reeks of charm and adds a delightful taste in what are already exceptional films. Blaise Pascal - Unrated I agree that this film is very hard to watch, due in part to its absolute objective formalism, that makes this more dispensable than a non-fiction film would have done. also, it's constant juddling with faith and science, and its usage of instances to verify it is done methodologically, in term, making film into an investigation, using Ockham's razor to slice the fluff and presenting the truth as truth should be, the simplest, for that is truth understood by all. Creepy and yet fascinating, a film that haunts our soul and forces a consequence, even the death of Monsieur Pascal is done in such ambiguous manner, as to cloud what reasoning there might be for his death, one of the finer vague points in this great film. Baghead - R I swore I watched this and may or may not have rated it, but anyway, what I remember of this film was being awkward. Not a strong film as 'Funny Ha-ha' but still okay. December 25, 2009

Funny Ha Ha - Unrated wow, I am not sure what to say, but I sure wish more people made cinema such as this. I mean. it is so natural and dull and is so sure to life up the day knowing your life is worthy of film, and by itself, unique. The recording of this is a record of a moment in someone's mind, Bujalski's and that is itself a fine thing, as all art is normally to build order onto something, by a form of subjective record. Howards End - PG Absolutely wonderful, I was dazed watching this film, watched it in blu-ray too. It really is quite a splendid picture with some of the finest acting and cinematography seen. The snappy dialogue with its range of vocabulary and knowledge was just sweet and delightful to hear. I highly recommend this, for it really is great in its own form and the content is one other part of it. December 25, 2009

Boogie Nights - R easily one of Anderson's best, a fantastic ensemble piece that follows regularly but still has a hell of a lot to offer. Julianne Moore and Heather Graham did fantastic here and it was really and enjoyable and intriguing look at these character's lives. In fact, the cast all did well, for some their best probably. Un Conte de Noël (A Christmas Tale) - Unrated I don't know what to say, but this film is rather exceptional on many counts if you see it. It is much better than a family drama film in the vein of Wes Anderson and it is a rather over-dramatic display of the family order too, due in part to a heavy subjective viewpoint on the part of some member which we see on screen. I was rather engrossed in it, its various vague and amazingly screwed characters and especially in part to the flawed but ultimately persecuted lead, whose flaws not his own and his own both set him up to be a pariah and no one with the balls to back him up. It really shows the importance of a family unit, no matter how broken. December 22, 2009

Smiles Of A Summer Night - Unrated Early traces of the Bergman trademark, far from my favourite but an exceptional comedy dealing in what one can assume to be some rather astute and controversial topics of its day or era, depending on which timeline you prefer. Interpreting this sort of spoils it, it is what is, a dramatic display of fidelity in a society forced to restrict human emotions. December 22, 2009

Pierrot le Fou (Pierrot Goes Wild) (Crazy Pete) - Unrated A unique heist film for this one has little of the political dimensions associated with this era of Godard, but retains the heavy dosage of literary references. A heist film in essence, with some rad cars and sweet action, this is really one hell of a film, especially in blu-ray. I was astounded by y its differences, as it seems very concerned in vivid detail on the travails on the lead Bonnie & Clyde-like characters. December 22, 2009

Dead Man - R It feels like his most recent effort and yet just as satisfying. the use of repetitive lines and the constant travelling is really traits that stands out. Whenever a director puts his own stamp, it is always outstanding, no matter how pretentious, as long as it borders on the insanely obsessive or bizarrely perverse. Jarmusch really displays a film where nothing or no tension genrally happen, where the hunters are just mere men to add more words to and yet, makes a film so enjoyable and enticing. Coco avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel) - PG-13 Vivid in many ways but still lacking. The dramatizing was rather pointless as her life was fantastic by itself, overall, it was a very good film but sub-standards due to its stubborn adherence to standards. December 22, 2009

Jennifer's Body - R I watched the Theatrical cut and wasn't very impressed. It was stale at best and at times mezmerizing with a few select scenes, Overall, it was a miss so wide, it's Wal-Mart for mammoths. I love Seyfield's role here, but the dialogue was just so pointless, people may speak that way, but here, it felt like it was purposeless drivel pummeled into someone's gaping hole. Belle de Jour - R Outrageous and easily a great and daring film on a womens incipient erotic desires, all of which seems to be linked to an abuse of sorts that was suffered in the past. The use of psychology is intriguing, but all that you can get offa book, here, what we see is something personal and realistic, something more tangent to a person that we witness more or less as a fetishist and observer. Highly sexual and well-acted, this is easily a film of enormous prestige. December 22, 2009

Vengeance - Unrated A rather disappointing effort by To to mimic Melville. It got a good start but stalled very badly. I would have loved it if the affected attributes were done right, like the nurse being able to understand French and a lot of the characters were able to converse in Portuguese. The stylized nature just fell dreadfully flat, which it never does in a Melville creation. Never. December 22, 2009

Paranormal Activity - R I don't know how to rate this, but for what it's worth, I was occasionally frightened by it all and that is very rare in these times. December 22, 2009

H2: Halloween II - R If I'm not wrong, I saw the Director's Cut and have yet to venture on the Theatrical one, but I enjoyed it a lot. The sleazy kills were the highlights, continuing the white thrash trends of Rob Zob Zombie, and we even see the delusions of Myers in vivid detail than before. a novel approach to the idea if you asked me. The kills too were sweet. December 22, 2009

Gamer - R Man did I love this film, other from the nonsense music and the silly as hell tattoo motif but still, a game where shooting is everywhere and a woman to fulfill your every whims. Seriously, sweet. December 22, 2009

The Echo - R More or less fine, I loved the next door element though and what the lead believes he saw, that was a good plot-line and came out well in this horror film. December 22, 2009
