Jigoku (The Sinners of Hell) - Unrated Fantastic, the start of the outrageous trend in Japanese cinema, where squinting and shrieks are the normal part of their cinema. The macabre and the grizzly all in one and sometimes a tad bit of a decapitation. Anyway, this film is just so enjoyable to watch and there is bit of a melodrama in there with the lead character and though it is well known for its cinematography and its vivid colours, people forget that it is also a nice film with a great storyline. L' Année Dernière à Marienbad (Last Year at Marienbad) - Unrated God, what divine cinematography, I mean looking at the shadows and the colours, I can't imagine the genius it must have been that did this. A bizarre film, poetic and literary aspects wwigh heavily in this one, every word a recollection of a memory and every image is an attempt at remembrance of a distant affair. A striking film where it is really more of an enigma, where you would probably take a lifetime to solve, not even the femal could interprete it and I believe that this enigma was passed on to us too.

Watched the Criterion edition recently. For some reason, my memory of this film after about 2-3 years or so was very different and surprised me to no end. It is still a fantastic film with some of the most well-designed scenarios ever. This film proves why intelligence is important to mankind and what sets us apart. We're just not fully animals, though we can have fun like them.

Year One - PG-13 It started well enough but came to a screeching halt or some sort of indescribable pause somewhere, really hard to fathom what was it. The early part was funny though. December 7, 2009

The House Bunny - PG-13 This movie could've been great if you saw it from the start, but it started to suck really badly with one of the most grotesque and absurd themes of a movie I've seen in a long time. December 7, 2009

Observe and Report - R Seriously, there is no way you can say this film was a bore. Though very conventional, it does allow moments on innovation in it and combining both, we have a genuine fun film about a guy with bipolar. December 7, 2009

Man Som Hatar Kvinnor (Millenium: Part 1 - Men Who Hate Women) (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) - Unrated No doubt a great film, highly enjoyable and intriguing. It really explores the case in depth and allows a lot of moments for us to reflect and contemplate. A unique thriller at this time. December 7, 2009

The Squid and the Whale - R A fine film, though it is strange in that it feels like nothing occurs except what is possibly one of the more important moment in a family life, the divorce of the parents. That serves only the broader agenda of the film as it is more about the two kids. I feel rather attuned to the characters as it was very real and genuine and though far from great, his first film being slightly better in my book, it was an enjoyable discovery. December 7, 2009

The Proposal - PG-13 Not a bad film, a fine throwback to the good old fashiones Hollywood era and done much better than most of the others in similar vein. I personally enjoyed it but find it hard for me to declare this a masterpiece though it is at the least a fine film., if I have no other reason to jack up its status. December 7, 2009

Homicide - R Personally, though it's well plotted, what sets apart Mamet from great directors is the fact that he puts his most clear beliefs into the very front, it literally effaces whatever fine quality this film might have and those beliefs are so distracting that it spoils the acting and negates whatever attributes of skill in terms of scriptwriting and directing that he might other wise possess. The Limits of Control - R Fantastic, one of his most finest films to come out in the last few years, the Spanish setting really pays tribute to numerous Latin American and Spanish directors and its myriad characters are all fantastic. Rarely can a film talk about something so opaque and yet make it so exciting and fantastic. A simplistic script but an elegant film. I hate those who hate this film. They really should read a book. I know I read at least one a year and maybe, perhaps 2. December 5, 2009

Roma, città aperta (Open City) - Unrated Fantastic film, its utter rawness leaves so much to the thoughts and though it feels a little heavy-handed and dare I say propaganda, it was one hell of a post wwII counter agit-prop of the previous era. November 24, 2009

Inglourious Basterds - R Straight up badass, I would have docked it due to the ending, but I loved the dialogue here. Tarantino is back in his game. November 24, 2009

Sovia: Death Hospital - Unrated Odd film, for some reason or other, I enjoyed it. The end stays with me fue to it utter strangeness. November 24, 2009

2012 - PG-13 Two stars just for its dazzling effects, though it does leave much desired and the lack of three additional stars due to it being an anti-rusky film for no apparent reason except they are 'big' in every possible way. November 24, 2009

Krylya (Wings) - Unrated A fantastic film from one of cinema's shortest lives. A beautiful, patient revelation of what happens to even the greatest among us, the fact that mediocrity and repetition and trite actions are always going to be the most common factor of our lives even when we have succeeded in areas not expected or not commonly expected. Nippon konchuki (The Insect Woman) - Unrated For some reason, I just loved this film, less dynamic and more sensual than 'Pigs & Battleships', this film really is a structured discovery of man's modern ineptness and loss. November 10, 2009

La prise de pouvoir par Louis XIV (The Taking of Power by Louis XIV)(The Rise of Louis XIV) - G I really like it when a movie goes all out to show a fantastic, conspiratorial designs of a king in making haute-couture as a way of controlling the erratic rabble that is the aristocracy. Rossellini did it and I'm happy for it. October 25, 2009

Tai tai wan sui - Unrated This was one comical movie, its melodrama mixing into one really outdated film that has its charms and certainly places it in its period. I really enjoyed it though, finding it humorous and interesting, especially the acting. September 7, 2009

Alien Trespass - PG A cool throwback to the b-grade slime films of the 50s, 60s, this was one quirky ride into memoriaville. I enjoyed watching this and found it bizarre and fun. September 7, 2009

Comrades - Unrated Watching my first Bill Douglas film, I felt like watching where the director had a lot of vested emotional interest, it really is one of those films where you feel the heart is talking, heavily in thought. The extremely personal way of displaying thse characters and some of the more disjointed ways in which the scenes are shown, particularly those that displays the darker realms of the human being makes this a film that was shown and cut based on human empathy and sympathy. District 9 - R AWESOME, AWESOME UND AWESOME! I cannot put it in words how brilliant this film was, the only thing that pissed me off seriously was that Afrikaans was not used more nor the other African languages or even Portuguese, but even that major dent failed to alter my opinion of this great film. Elf - PG It was not bad, has a lot of rather funny moments and a certain charm, definitely one of the better of the Christmas movies we've seen for some time. September 7, 2009

Carlito's Way - R Badass without a doubt, one of DePalma's most coolest films, starting out with an awesome dialogue and becoming what is easily one of the most exciting films of how the underworld draws you back in, no matter what. September 7, 2009

Summer School - Unrated Nice film, definitely had fun watching this spectacle, loves how the whole thing ends off and it was very well made for something low budget. September 7, 2009

Made in U.S.A. - Unrated Another great film from Godard, an exceptional ride into the psychologically confused and unstable mind of Godard. This redux of a detective film is one hell of a ride into art in its glory and intrigues and is really one of his most intricate pieces of work and one of his most lucid, in an atypical way of course.
