Boring and indulgent. The characters and creatures weren't half as interesting or creative or nonsensical as they were in the cartoon. It was just obnoxious.

Scorsese created a claustrophobic, haunting asylum on a closed-off island. To that, I give him credit. I just wish he hadn't made the ending so "revelatory" because really - it wasn't. All he did in the end was insult the audience's intelligence. It was too contrived and crafted to be anything really great.
