Confessions of a Shopaholic Confessions of a Shopaholic PG
I have to admit that I actually watched this movie through... but it almost all sucked. It's a book adaptation and you can tell. The scenes don't fit, the pace is too fast, there is little flow, little continuity and strange leaps forward in plot and relationships. The acting is ok (if a little girly) especially the main male actor (Hugh Dancy - who seems to be Hugh Grant in a different body).
Overall 3/10 because the moral to the rather disjointed story is actually pretty decent in the end.
State of Play State of Play PG-13
Intelligent, captivating, fast paced, twisty and very very good. Crowe is exceptional, McAdams is gorgeous... and awesome and Ben Affleck plays his important role with excellence. A fun watch but keep up or you might miss what's going on. 9/10

Saving Private Ryan Saving Private Ryan R
The definitive WWII movie. Has the greatest D-Day landing scene ever created. Brutal and cruel, bloody and gruesome with some of the best cinematography I've ever seen. Excellent cast with Tom, Matt Damon and Barry Pepper (is there a war movie Pepper hasn't been in?). It is the war movie all other war movies are compared to. Some scenes in this movie will stay with you for life. However I think this is an excellent promo for an anti-war campaign. It shows you what war can really be like. Brilliant in every respect.
Transformers Transformers PG-13
Just saw Transformers (opening night, best seats in the house (thanks Craig)) and, without hyping it up too much, I'd have to say it's possibly the best movie ever made. I know that sounds extreme but in my opinion, this movie is up there with The Matrix and X-Men 3. It's so real you almost expect your car to start talking to you when you leave. It's also NOT a kids movie. It's very violent with fighting and explosions pretty much dominating the movie. One thing I wasn't expecting was the humour! It's so funny, the script is brilliant. It really took me and the other guys by surprise. We laughed the whole way through. CGI is perfect... seamless... couldn't be faulted. The Transformers are very detailed and shiny with lots of detail and complexity but the animators have worked hard to make it look real... and it does. The action is new and fresh with some ideas that haven't been done before. With characters like these, they have more options I guess. The cast was also great with Shia LaBeouf holding the movie well alongside others like Jon Voight, Josh Duhamel (Las Vegas) and Megan Fox (token hot girl who actually contributes well to the movie). 10/10 for me. It was so unique, so satisfying (especially to all you 25-30 yr old Transformers fans from way back!) and so engaging. Loved it!
