The Best Alien movie in the franchise over the first Alien and even both AVP's. It's my personal favorite of all time. It has great music, lots of action, great characters, it's scary and a great story..everything you could ever ask from a Science Fiction/Horror movie..I could watch this over and over and never get sick of it! :)
I'm looking forward to seeing it again..a lot of people think this movie is mindless garbage but there are times I want to pay attention to movies like Schindler's List and other times that I want to see another movie that's part of the Alien and Predator universe. The Alien movies will always be my favorite Science Fiction/Horror franchise :)
Oviously not as good as the 2nd AVP film for me but overall it's still one of my favorite movies. Highly entertaining even though the first half takes a while to get started. Great actors. My least favorite part of this movie was the score. Not that interesting at all. I own it but still not great.
Other than the very ending of the film I thought this was highly entertaining. It's not perfect but it's miles better than Alien3. The music score of this film is fantastic as well. I thought there was a lot of suspense and action to go around. Sure things could have been better in this film but overall not a bad 4th movie :)
To me it's much better than the first Predator movie. Highly more entertaining and a lot more action. I realize I'm in the minority but I love it. Alan Silvestri comes back and does another amazing job again. Danny Glover great as Harrigan as well :)
I enjoy this slightly more than the first Alien film. Up against the first Alien it's not the best but in the series overall it's still better for me. I enjoy all a the actors and the music is wonderfully done by Elliot Goldenthal even though his work in Interview with a Vampire was his best work..the only gripe I have with this movie was the very beginning and the resolution of the beginning..which I'm not going to give away for some of you who haven't seen it yet still.
Overall as a stand alone movie it's a great film but compared to the rest of the Alien or AVP films I think this is my least favorite. Simply because there isn't much action and I prefer regular horror/slasher films like Friday the 13th or Hellraiser. Don't get me wrong..Alien is still a wonderful film but it's not a movie I can watch over and over again like Aliens or AVP-R or even Alien Resurrection. Jerry Goldsmtih did such a wonderful job scoring but again a little overrated compared to the 2nd Aliens film. And finallly always a classic scene with Kane and seeing how the Alien kills everyone.
Like the first Alien film it's my least favorite Predator because a lot doesn't happen til the 2nd half of the movie. My favorite characters are Dutch, Poncho and Mac where pretty much everyone else isn't as fascinating. I didn't really care for some of the jokes at the beginning of the movie plus all the cussing. Don't get me wrong there is a heck of a lot of cussing in the 2nd Alien film as well but this was a little over the top. Again as a stand alone movie it's great but compared to Predator 2 and the some of the other Alien or AVP films not so great for me. However, the one thing I do love is the great score by Alan Silvestri. I guess I just could have done without some of the beginning of the movie after they land in the jungle or even in the Chopper before arriving. I understand the build up and suspense but still not my favorite
Being that I've never read the book or seen the original animated Lord of the Rings..seeing Boromir pass away seeing the Fellowship actually go in seperate directions.it was interesting to see what part 2 was going to show..OMG! What an amazing performance of Gandalf played by Andy Serkis and CGI. My favoirte part of this movie of course is seeing the Ents at the end of the movie. GREAT CAST..GREAT MUSIC..GREAT EVERYTHING! I enjoyed the first movie and seeing part 2 is even better..Also great to see the addition of Bernard Hill as Theoden, Miranda Otto as Eowyn, Karl Urban as Eomer and of course Brad Dourif as Grima Wormtongue.
Can't get enough of Peter Jackson adaptation of the Lord of the Rings. Every time I see the Fellowship of the Ring..I can't wait to see The Two Towers and Return of the King. This is a great start of the trilogy of course. One of my all time greatest films that I own. I have the special extended cut and it's the only way to go. My wife saw this with me and she's never seen the whole movie before. I can't find any flaws in watching this masterpiece written by Tolkien!
This movie is a classic..not perfect but at least 4 to 4 1/2 stars. What gives this movie an extra half star is the historical Bond girl shot coming out of the water onto the beach. This set's the tone of the whole Bond franchise. Because it's the first movie they are still getting their feet wet. Your getting to know the one liner quotes, the theme songs, the women and the usual James Bond flair. On the whole this movie can be a little slow but again not bad for a first time around.. I may add more later but for now..next movie to review of course is...From Russia With Love :)
For me it's a little better than Dr. No but still not perfect. The gadgets start coming in, "Q" makes his premiere and of course the ongoing theme song, one liner, M and Miss Moneypenny and of course the start of the Beginning Credits after the prologue. Again not a perfect movie the movie is slightly faster than Dr No. the plot is about the same but of course as always the classic Bond Girl and the great music by John Barry gives this movie an extra half star.
Next to rate of course is the legendary Goldfinger... :)
The fourth movie of the franchise doesn't disappoint me at all :) To me this is better than Goldfinger. The pacing of this movie is perfect. Not too fast and not too slow..it stays consistent the whole way through. The story itself and the villian isn't the best but overall this is the best film out of the first 4 films so far. The music underscoring the pacing of the movie is enhanced greatly and my favorite parts of the movie are underwater which reminds me of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea..James Bond Style :) Next...
"Do you expect me to talk?" "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" "Shocking" "Positively Shocking"
2 Great quotes from this movie classic. Odd Job and Pussy Galore..this movie is such loads of fun :) Still not the best movie of the series..I know this is a personal favorite of many fans but it's a little slow and cheesy at points but there is so much that will not dissapoint such as the great scene of the lady covered in Gold in the movie cover...Do Not forget the great theme song voiced by the great Shirley Bassey who not only sang 1, not 2 but 3 great James Bond movies and this is #1
Even better than Thunderball. It wasn't too overly cliche' the one liners weren't overly done and the Bond girls were very underrated! The Plot of the movie was better than Thunderball even though Thunderball was 5 stars as well :) What was great about this movie was that it was very realistic with the space age race of the 1960's when the US and the USSR were in a battle to see which would be the first into space and on the moon :) Another personal favorite movie of mine and the resolution of finally finding out who Blofeld finally looks like.. I may add more later but for now excellent James Bond film and could be one of the most underrated films in the series :)
I must also add the I love the song as well sung by Nancy Sinatra daughter of Frank who also sang.."These Boots Are Made For Walking" The Japanese theme is also nicely done. So far in the series You only Live Twice is #1, Thunderball is #2, From Russia With Love is #3, Goldfinger is #4 and Dr. No is #5
...next is..On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The visual effects werent the greatest and was cheesy at points but overall even though not perfect the most under-rated James Bond film ever due to the love story. George Lazenby isn't terrible at all. The Story wasnt bad at all either. The dialogue and execution of some of the acting wasn't the greatest but again I rank this right up there with the great Bond movies!
The question is what isn't right about this James Bond movie? This is the perfect Sean Connery James Bond. A perfect 10 in all areas. Pefect and most beautiful Bond Girl..great to see Shirley Bassey come back for #2. This is the last official James Bond movie until the remake of Thuderball in Never Say Never Again but he exists in fine fine fashion :)
Yaphet Cotto as Kanaga and Jane Seymour as Solitaire :) This is one of my favorite James Bond movies of all time. One of the most classic scenes ever as the first installment of Roger Moore running over the crocidiles and Alligators proceeding with the Boat Chase. This movie can slow down at times but the plot, acting and music is wonderful. It's not perfect but not bad at all for Roger Moore who plays James more than anyone else. Even the jokes aren't too overly the top as much as the previous JB's. Not much else to say.. next.. The Man With The Golden Gun
Definitely one of my favorite James Bond films..but still not my favorite (Scaramanga)..it was a little dull in parts but that doesn't take away from Christopher Lee and some of the other great characters from the movie..Herve as Nick Nack formerly as Tattoo in Fantasy Island..I'll add more later but so far my ratings are..Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love
Unlike Sean Connery where he was getting tired of the roll towards the end I can really tell that Roger Moore was sad to leave this roll. He showed his age but it looked like a bittersweet moment for Roger. For me this will always be my favorite James Bond not for the story but because of the theme song by Duran Duran and also for being introduced to James Bond as a kid. I realiaze a lot of people don't care for this movie but if it wasn't for AVTAK I wouldn't be a fan today. I really enjoy the Roger Moore era the best..without question this beats the Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan era by only small margins. Is this the best Bond movie? No..but it was fun seeing the Eifel Tower and The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco but sad because Lois Maxwell left the franchise as well. There will never be another Miss MoneyPenny just like there will never be another Q like Desmond even though I do enjoy John Cleese in Brosnan era after Desmond died... now my ratings are this..A View To A Kill, For Your Eyes Only, Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me..Diamonds are Forever, , Live and Let Die, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, Octopussy, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love.. no more Mr. Moore so next will be Timothy Dalton.. in.. The Living Daylights
This movie kind of took a step back and is sandwiched somewhat in between the Bonds. Not the greatest but not the worst either. There were some fun moments in the film including hearing the James Bond theme at one point. Nice to see John Barry come back to score a few more James Bonds until he left after The Living Daylights. I guess after seeing Octopussy my new ratings are such..
For Your Eyes Only, Moonraker then The Spy Who Loved Me..Diamonds are Forever, , Live and Let Die, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, Octopussy, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love
Moonraker was my favorite James Bond movie until watching this one. The James Bonds for me seem to always be getting better and better during the Roger Moore Days. At one point we hear the music from The Spy Who Loved me (Nobody Does It Better.) I enjoyed Topol's performance who was in Fiddler on the Roof :) So this beats Moonraker. I really liked everything about this movie..I thought it was cute with the youg girl having a crush on James Bond and loved seeing a lot of movie in the snow and underwater. Instant Claissic for me anyways :)
Now my favorite movies are..For Your Eyes Only..Moonraker then The Spy Who Loved Me..Diamonds are Forever, , Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love
This movie is one of my favorites. Sean Connery didn't smile alot during his reign as James Bond and even though Roger Moore smiled a bit more often he did in a fashion that wasn't so ovious kind of laid the smiles in there. Here Timothy Dalton's first of 2 movies as James Bond really smiles and looks like he really had fun with the role as Mr. Bond. I loved seeing John Ryes Davies who plays Gimli and Treebeard in Lord Of The Rings playing another character 20 years ago even before his reaccuring role in Star Trek Voyager as well. This movie is fun from the get go. I love how part of the movie is in the snow and has woman with a cello involved as well. This isn't my favorite James Bond but ahead of many Sean Connery's and a few Roger Moore's...as far as where it's placed..it's as follows..
A View To A Kill, For Your Eyes Only, Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me..Diamonds are Forever, The Living Daylights, Live and Let Die, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, Octopussy, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love.
I realize that many of you out there prefer this movie that Pierce did over the other 3 but this is just alright for me. It's still a great movie but not as good as the next 3 James Bonds. I enjoy Famke Janssens performance of course and Sean Bean..nice to see the new Miss Money Penny which I like over the previous one during the Timothy Dalton era. Judi Dench is excellent as M..not quite like Bernard Lee but still adequate :)..the ratings now as follows as Pierce takes over the role as James Bond in fine fashion..
A View To A Kill, For Your Eyes Only, Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me..Diamonds are Forever,GoldenEye, The Living Daylights, Live and Let Die, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, Octopussy, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love.
Well now this is my favorite James Bond movie of all time so far. Diamonds was #1 but this beats it because its just pure fun. Jaws is introduced..great lines like "How Does That Grab You?" Stromberg and Barbera Bach is such a beautiful Bond Girl and my favorite so far (XXX or Anya) and the Vehicle that went underwater..such a classic movie :) I love it.. so now it's..The Spy Who Loved Me..Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die..The Man Wiith The Golden Gun, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love..next is Moonraker
I thought this was the best Spider-man in the series so far. I loved the fact that at one point in the movie there were 3 bad guys going after Peter Parker/Spider-man. I enjoyed every part of this movie..the music was great too...Venom, Sandman and of course Harry playing Goblin Jr. was just totally awesome. I really enjoy all 3 movies but this one to me was the best.
I felt the movie was cheesier than the first 2 films but again what made up for it was the very ending. The music and the acting was the strong point of the movie. The plot could have been just a bit better for me. The movie was funny as well :)
I know people are going to kill me but I'm not going to give this movie a full 5 stars. I'm giving it 4 1/2 stars because I thought the first half was a little rushed. Too much was trying to be shown in the first half..very complex. I thought if the movie was 10 minutes longer to allow the movie to show everything without rushing it would have been perfect. However, the movie picked up in the 2nd half including the surprise ending. Great music, great direction, for the most part great plot..mostly due to the ending and finally the movie was hillarious! Overall I love this movie and it's definitely one of my favorites.
I understand that there are a couple adult situations in this movie but at the same time this movie is a (fable) thinking movie for the mature yound and older of course. I was about 12/13 years old in the 80's when I first saw these movies and I didn't get any wrong ideas at all. It's up to the parents to make sure that the children understand what's going on and that there is a difference between fiction and reality. I also think you got the wrong idea that this movie is about more than just skin deep. The love that Kitty and Jack were sharing in the movie was deeper than sex. Also it wasn't about stripping..it's about finding out who a person is on the inside not on the out skin..basically don't judge a book by it's cover. Sure Cocoon and Cocoon: The Return were in the 80's and was a little cheesy but I found that films like these and E.T. were better written than many films on the big screen today. The 80's was the start of the pop culture and helped me define who I am today. I get very emotional and relive my youth everytime I see movies like these. The biggest reason I love these films is the music. Not the cheesy pop song (although I don't personally have a problem with it) but the nice soft and emotional theme by James Horner. James Horner ended up being one of my all time favorite composers with John Williams and his score for this film also helped me grow up and really put my life in perspective. To me it is a timeless film and the special effects were made in the 80's but it is ILM and still better than a lot of other films in the 80's and 90's combined.
Combining with the first Cocoon.. The 80's was a simple time for me. I was still a kid and growing up. I remember watching the first Cocoon as a kid when I was 12 or so in 1989. I can't remember for sure if I saw Cocoon 2 in the late 80's as well but I do know I saw Cocoon 2 in the late 90's and I personally love both the first and second movie. One of the few times in movie history where the entire cast comes back to reprise their roles including a small cameo appearance by Brian Dennehy who plays Walter. I don't care what anyone says but both Cocoon movies are very emotional and very touching. They both were defining moments in movie history and helped me become who I am today. They are fantasy films and not to be taken seriously. However, at the same time they made me think and taught me to be myself and love life to the fullest. The music to both films were wonderful and considering how the 90's rapidly became more and more about "I don't care about anyone else but myself" generation and the fact the even movies lost the great innocence and fun that movies like these had. I agree if your 18 and single and want a good fun movie that suits the tastes of today go ahead and watch something else but for someone like me who's 33 and newly married that grew up in the 80's that really cares about how the world changed with nostalgia then give this movie a watch. Sure there are moments of parental advisory but make sure your children understand the difference between fiction and reality. Also don't judge a book or movie by it's cover for that matter and try to think about what movies like these are really trying to say. Great movie and Timeless. You just don't see movies like this anymore and I will always enjoy watching them! A+ and RIP everyone who's past away in the cast.
I would have to say that this is my all time favorite movie :)
No movie out there will ever compare to it. I was fortunate to see it in theater about 10 years ago or so where it was playing at a cinema where they showed the classics. I own the 2 cd soundtrack and the fact that it it's a fictional story surrounding a true story of Jesus is just breathtaking. This movie is in a class of it's own ever since seeing this for the first time in 1997 I still get goose bumps just by listening to the soundtrack. I could go on and on about this film..if anyone wants to discuss Ben-Hur with me just request friendship. What a Masterpiece :)
I must add that I've noticed that people complaining about this movie really don't understand their cinema history books. Ok..it is 3 1/2 hours but at the same time soo many filmakers and composers were heavily influenced by this film. Star Wars would have never been possible especially The Phantom Menace without the Chariot Races. You can easily tell that George Lucas was influenced by this film. The same can be said about John Williams. Without the great Mikos Rozka John Williams scoring would be miles and miles different. You can easily hear a lot of what happened in A New Hope score that was influenced from Ben-Hur.
I'm also finding that people that don't like this film just have a short attention span. This film is no different than King of Kings or Jesus of Nazareth. No Pun intended but this is a film in Biblical proportions. How anyone can't enjoy this film is quite a surprise. Oviously everyone can have thier opinions but every time I see this movie Its like WOW and backwards!
This movie is one of my favorite movies! I love how they show how the military could be corupt at times. Oviously I do love our men and women fighting for our country but just like everyone else there is still that fear from the people on top. The fear of spreading disease led to believed that it's contained in a small town just was brilliant all because of a little monkey. I'm not going to give this movie away but just pure entertainment in the most realistic fashion..thank you once again Joe Johnston who also brought us Mighty Joe Young :) Also a great score from James Newton Howard..first time seeing this film since it came out and saw it at the dollar theater in 1995.
Almost forgot great cast in this movie from Rene Russo to Morgan Freeman, Dustin Hoffman and even young icon Patrick Dempsey plus last but not least Donald Sutherland plus a little cameo from Herb Jefferson Jr. who played Boomer in the original Battlestar Galactica :)
I just watched this for the first time since 1995 when it came out. No it isn't a perfect movie but overall it's a very fun movie that I can watch at least once every six months. It's no Lord of the Rings or anything but Robin Williams sure does a great job like everything else he's ever done. The music by James Horner (one of my favorite composers) helps the tone and atmosphere of this movie as wel. Funny, Fun and magical is this movie :)
One of my all time favorite movies thanks to my ex girlfriend to help me discover the love of Huskies :) I don't want to spoil it for anyone but everyone should watch this movie at least once. I bought this movie a year ago last Christmas on DVD and I treasure this movie simply for the wonderful dogs...of course the actors are wonderful too but they are secondary characters in this one. Thank You Vicky :)
2005 was one of the biggest years for action movies/blockbusters and Stealth was one of them. This movie just rocks and is one of the best fighter airplane movies of all time. I watched this for the first time a year ago and watched it again last night...A great cast including the prototype :) Jessica Biel need I say more :)
How can you not like Moonraker..This beats out Diamonds are Forever and The Spy Who Loved Me as my favorite James Bond movie. First in The Spy Who Loved Me you had the theme song from Lawrence of Araba now in this movie you get Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Magnificant Seven :) You have Richard Kiel as the legendary Jaws my all time favoirite coming back again in this Star Wars nod James Bond movie. I thought this movie was great and can I watch over and over again :)
Now as far as my ratings again..Moonraker then The Spy Who Loved Me..Diamonds are Forever, , Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, Dr. No and From Russia With Love...next..
Personally I thought the Cube movies got better as the series went on. This is the prequel to Cube and Hypercube. I have to agree with my friend here on flixster.com that the opening scene of the movie was flat out gruesome and probably a scene I couldn't watch again. I'll watch the movie but on the opening scene I'm going to have to turn my head. Cube opened the series with a lot of originality and interest. Hypercube was cool too because it was set even more in the future and it was like watching Event Horizon meets Star Trek or something..very eerie while here it's a prequel and sets up the first Cube movie. I loved it.
How can anyone not enjoy the lovable Gizmo. I just watched this movie for the first time in years and this movie represents everything I love about the 80's. One of the greatest things about this movie that I found out recently is that Howie Mandel did the voice for Gizmo. Even Stripe as evil as he was is still loveable. Jerry Goldsmith did a superb job with the music and my all time favorite theme by Mr. Goldsmith has to be the Gizmo theme. What a fantastic theme song and great movie. After not seeing this movie in quite a few years it still makes me happy! I want to go back to my childhood and have a Gremlin or Gizmo :)
One more thing..Polly Holiday who played "Flo" in Alice the tv show is in this movie too :)
I just saw Gremlins: The New Batch for the first time ever. I've seen the first one a few times but never the 2nd one. I admit this isn't as good as the first one. My biggest complaint of the 2nd movie is they hardly showed Gizmo at all. I loved Gizmo in the first movie and they should have showed him a little bit more. The acting and plot wasn't as good as the first movie either but what was great about the sequel was to hear Angel of Death by Slayer and to see Jerry Goldsmith play a cameo in the movie along with the Looney Tunes and Hulk Hogan. Overall I enjoyed the move but it wasn't the greatest.
The movie wasn't perfect but overall this is the first movie I've ever seen with Hayden Christensen other than Star Wars either Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith. I'll probably add more to the review later being it's still new but overall I quite enjoyed it and even though I will never like Hayden as much as my wife for ovious reasons I am enjoying his work. I of course enjoy Samuel L. Jackson in this movie too :)
I just watched this movie for the first time in quite a few years. And I was very late watching this movie the first time. The first time watching this movie was in the mid to late 90's. I just think this movie is really really cute :) I really love this film. Just cute and of course I love James Horner's score as I own the soundtrack for this and Fievel Goes West as well :)
I don't understand what the problem is with this movie I thought it was a great movie. I don't really have a lot to say about this movie except that I agree with 100% on Roger Ebert's review of this film. I did not have a problem with this one bit. I'm not a super religious person but I still thought the very ending was fitting, entertaining and stunning. I will watch this movie again many times in the future..I may change some of what I wrote here but again most of what I say is in agreement with Roger Ebert.
I finally had the chance to see this movie after all these years..about 21 years later..LOL..I'm a huge James Horner fan who score this soundtrack..James Horner at the time was scoring a lot of animated films and I think that's what he was best at aside from Cocoon, Star Trek 2 and 3, Braveheart, Aliens, etc.
Anyways after owning the soundtrack for so long I had to see this film and all I have to say is WOW! Ducky is my favorite character..I had no idea that Judith Barsi became so famous for her lines Yep, Yep Yep only after her and her mother were killed by her father. What a story to hear just not reading about it on wikipedia and imdb.com.
This is a great film and it doesn't matter if your 6 or 66 this is a great great film and to be produced by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas makes it even more amazing..Thank you for a great film and a great score..RIP Judith Barsi for creating one of the most memorable characters in animated movie history...yep yep yep!
