| Ghost Town - PG-13 | Great little rodramedy (romantic comedy drama) that reminded me a lot of Groundhog Day, with a smidgeon of Ghost of course. Provided you like Ricky Gervais, you should really like this. | November 11, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Burn After Reading - R | Suspect this won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed everything about it, from the engrossing and funny script and farcical plot, to the star-studded performances and spoof soundtrack/titles. | November 3, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Eagle Eye - PG-13 | Didn't really feel for the characters, but an interesting idea/motive for the events (albeit a mix of Enemy Of The State, Die Hard 4 and The Manchurian Candidate) and it looked nice enough. | November 3, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Tropic Thunder - R | Not the funniest, but certainly funny. | October 28, 2008 | N/A | |||
| How to Lose Friends & Alienate People - R | Don't care how unfaithful to the book this may have been, it was good fun, even with the romantic subplot/ending. Nice to see a British movie set abroad. | October 28, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Mr. Woodcock - PG-13 | Could have been better, not really funny enough and nothing else to draw from it. | October 25, 2008 | N/A | |||
| 27 Dresses - PG-13 | Not bad, I guess. Should have been called 'Love Square' though. | October 25, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Taken - PG-13 | Somewhere between a Bourne film and Man On Fire, though with a body count that was probably higher than them both put together. Well made, and Neeson's limited emotional acting depth just about pulled it off. | September 30, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Il y a Longtemps que Je T'aime (I've Loved You So Long) - PG-13 | A gentle thriller of sorts, that slowly sucks you in. Good performances, nicely shot, great for a quiet night or a Sunday afternoon. | September 30, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Sparkle - Unrated |
A good romantic comedy/drama, with a great cast, young and older.
And the final scene is on a road I've walked along many a time, which is always nice to see on the screen. |

| RocknRolla - R |
Another of Ritchie's gangster tapestries. Like Lock Stock or Snatch, but just a different story with a different cast. Good, but nothing new.
And a few scenes filmed about 200m from where I live! |

| Columbus Day - R | September 15, 2008 | N/A | ||||
| Street Kings - R | September 15, 2008 | N/A | ||||
| Hollywoodland - R | Well acted and made, just a shame that the many flashbacks to the past became a little confusing. | September 15, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) - PG-13 |
X-Men vs. Lord Of The Rings vs. Riddick vs. Pan's Labyrinth. Hmm, just about worked, but messy, cheesey script, and humour that didn't really sit right with everything else. Having said that, not bad either, and lots of visual treats. |

| The Dark Knight - PG-13 | A fitting sequel to the excellent first film that manages to supercede it, this is a film about Gotham City, and not just Bruce Wayne. With another stellar cast, the newcomers (Ledger, Eckhart, Gyllenhaal) all put in great performances, and previous supporting roles (Freeman and Oldman) step up to their prominence with ease. The film has both a complex and constant pace, yet still manages to ebb and flow, as the themes of duality, terrorism, madness, love and heroism are all explored. Needless to say it looks and sounds amazing, enhanced further if seen and heard in an IMAX theatre, and with references to the classic cop/criminal thriller Heat (opening scenes), Frank Miller's graphic novels (Joker's scenes) and even the 80s TV series (fight scene in Wayne's penthouse), this is clearly the best superhero/comic to be seen our screens as yet. Miss it at your peril. | August 6, 2008 | N/A | |||
| WALL-E - G | Certainly one of the best animated movies in history so far - ticks all the boxes, and pays dues to classic visual storytelling in so many ways. Naturally, it sounded and looked amazing, with some great digs/references (although perhaps one too many relating to Apple). I challenge anyone to not enjoy this on some level. | July 28, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Les Femmes de l'Ombre (Female Agents) - Unrated |
Good stuff - another fascinating war story. Well acted, well made, well written. |

| The Forbidden Kingdom - PG-13 | Good fighting, visual effects, score and locations. Dull acting and plot, saved only by a couple of funny lines that Jackie Chan managed to deliver well. Shame. | July 15, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Hancock - PG-13 |
Wanted to give this a 4.5 stars but didn't quite have the substance. However, another great Will Smith vehicle (none of the comic-book stuff - 'I'll be my own hero!'), with a clever premise and cleverer plot development. Visual effects that just worked (i.e. seamless) and a soundtrack that did things differently (like the hero). Don't want to spoil things but the supporting cast were very good, and in a positive way, there could easily be a sequel. Well worth watching, Will-fans. |

| Kung Fu Panda - PG |
Skidoosh! Good fun, great visuals, plnety of humour, though doubt I'll ever want to watch it again. Seemed to have been written with Jack Black in mind, which is no bad thing. |

| Lust, Caution (Se jie) - R | July 10, 2008 | N/A | ||||
| The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - PG |
Significantly better than The Pussycat, The Hag And The Clothes Rack. Like with the Harry Potter films, the kids have got better, and coincidently the voice of the badget sounded like Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) but wasn't. Anyway, with less reliance on CGI (so it seemed anyway), things felt a bit a more natural, with great cinematography in parts. The plot, while basic, had some nice little twists, with a decent amount of humour in the script. Still no Middle Earth adventure, but they're starting to close the gap. |
