Volver - R It's been in the cupboard for months but we finally watched it last night.

Very gentle indeed but very effective. Worth a watch.

Wanted - R I enjoyed it. The fx were good, AJ always looks fantastic and McAvoy gets away with being American.

Plot stoopid and ending really daft.

Instantly forgettable. What was I talking about again?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - PG-13 Oh what could have been!

You've got a huge budget and a massive fan base so why not get some decent WRITERS! The plot was naff and the last 20 mins, although visually stunning, was a bit of a waste of time.

I still loved it though!

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (AVP 2) - R Perfect for a night in on your own with some wine. No plot, plenty of gore and big explosions. Not one for the missus. June 2, 2008

Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) - PG-13 What a great film!

I enjoyed it a lot and despite the underlying dark context and setting it was impossible not to laugh at the dialog and pretence that is created.

If was a movie critic I might say something like "heart warming and heart breaking". But I'm not.

The Golden Compass - PG-13 Too short - where did the rest of the subject matter go? How can they remove the main theme from the story - that the Magesterium is effectively a religious organisation? North America, that's why.

Poorly edited - certain conversations seemed to just end half way through.

That said I'm going to watch the other 2 if they make them, if only to see how they avoid the death of the deity. Perhaps they'll cut it completely.

3:10 to Yuma - R Good story but let down by a coupe of things.

Seeing a 1-legged man jump between buildings and sprinting is pushing a bit considering at when relevant his wooden foot is very important to the plot.

Bale was good, Crowe was a bit too nice for a mass-murdering convict. Unconvinced about the ending too.

Atonement - R A truly depressing film.

However it is well worth watching and the ending is very touching.

The scenes at Dunkirk are amazing as is Knightley in the swimming costume. Hmmm, aybe I've missed the bigger picture here?

Letters from Iwo Jima - R Having watched "flags of our fathers", I felt compelled to watch this.

It simply reaffirms what I already knew - that war is rediculous, and that those on the front line are so far removed from those making decisions and waging war.

Both the Japanese and American perspectives show a total disregard for human life and perhaps the most depressing thing is that the propoganda machine is not a new phenomenon, it's been around a long time.

Don't watch this if you're feeling miserable, it won't improve your mood.

Cloverfield - PG-13 Apart from the first 15 mins which is all a bit pointless in setting up the personal relationship of characters, this film is excellent.

The "camcorder" view works really well in most cases, especially it's night-vision capabilities!

The effects are really well done and the detruction of NY is convincing.

They HAVE to make a sequel!

No Country for Old Men - R Loved it despite dozing a bit and missing some key moments.

Javier Bardem is fantastic.

The Kite Runner - PG-13 Liked it but it kind of lost its way in the middle.Acting from the 2 kids is amazing considering they were picked from obscurity to do it. January 27, 2008

Death Proof (Grindhouse Presents) - R Tarantino gets carried away with the dialog...again. Some of it is painfully drawn out and doesn't go anywhere.

And yet I enjoyed it.

The second half is better and the final 20 are definitely worth waiting for.

Shoot 'Em Up - R This film delivers!

If you have 85 minutes to spare when you don't have the sensitivities of the average woman to protect, watch this!

Really enjoyed it - the dialog and stunts are deliberately ott and I for one loved it!
