Boring, unfunny and an utter failure. Yes it did have a story line and yes it did have a modicum of familiarity with the Superbad style movies of the past. However, "funny" it was not. It was as fun as a ride to the D.M.V and as enjoyable as an old magazine in a dentist's office. I just didn't see how this was a movie that needed to be told.
I'm kind of sick of movies that try to be mysterious but have no real follow through. I was extremely disappointed as I actually spent money on this rental. I sat through the ending credits so I could BOO the staff's names as they shamelessly passed by.
The movie was about forty minutes too long. Also the story line was convoluted and choppy at best. They threw in scenes that not only took the borderline silly into the flat out ridiculous. The acting was as poor as the cheesy melodramatic music sprinkled in the over abundant drama scenes. I would not watch this again if I were in it.
I can't say I hated it totally I got the charm of the piece I just thought it was somewhat predictable for a mild "mystery". Also when will someone write a romantic comedy with a plot you can really sink your teeth into. I get the soft appeal of a mindless dare I say "chic flic" but there is an audience out there that would appreciate romacoms with a side of depth. If your looking for a (Saturday night don't tell your friends Chinese food eatin pajama pants wearin make the girlfriend happy chic flic) then bon appetite.
Decent beginning that loses itself and becomes confusing and too unrealistic to be considered great. Not worth a second look even though the end was fun the story as a whole left a bad taste that will haunt you long after its delivery.
Great concept interesting plot line. One of the most unique stories with a lot of promise M. Night Shyamalan has created. Unfortunately as has so many of his movies of late, it falls short in its delivery. It seems as though M. Knight has great promise and doesn't deliver the ending deserving of it's build up. Still the movie although gimmicky was fun and disturbing enough to warrant a decent review.
This seemed to drag a little in the middle and had a Skippy plot. Or so it would seem until it was well packaged at the end. It's a movie worth sticking with even if it seems like it may be a bust. All and all it had an old world rich background and interesting plot that struggles in a doldrum-ed middle but holds enough to carry it through to a decent and somewhat surprising end.
One of the most intense and unusual movies I have seen in a long while. It was good through and through it has a plot I never even thought of and the acting is playfully understated. It is funny heart wrenching and all around entertaining. I'm glad I watched this film more then most and that to me makes a five star must see. It's the type of film you do your best not to set up before showing it to people you know will appreciate it's warmth and subtlety. A standing O from me to everyone involved.
Painted like a portrait in wonderful detail. The storyline is rich. The cast well assembled. It does however have the Leonardo commercial big budget unappealing quality that lives a weird aftertaste. You know going in that it will be good but not found a diamond in a pile of coal good.
A great cast. Its witty and entertaining through out. For my taste you don't get a much better kids film. However it doesn't have the qualities needed to stand the test of time.
