Absolutely brilliant! My favorite Tarantino film. Mr. Blonde, Mr. White, Mr. Pink, Mr. Orange, Mr. Brown...cool, funny, thrilling, shocking. Great soundtrack.
Million Dollar Baby is an exceptional film. It draws you in until you're feeling the excitement and thrill of it all. Then it rips out your heart and leaves you wondering and caring about Frankie Dunn long after the credits have rolled.
Hilary Swank completely engulfed her character of Maggie Fitzgerald. Morgan Freeman was outstanding as Eddie Scrap-Iron and as the film's narrator. When it comes to narration, Freeman is the best there is, and I just love to listen to his voice. Boxing trainer, Frankie Dunn played by Clint Eastwood had more depth that one could imagine for such a character. It was definitely worth purchasing this film as I consider it a classic.
It's a beautiful film that tells many stories, ancient and new. We follow Pai (Keisha Castle-Hughes), with her quiet confidence as she journeys through difficult times...with her family, her people, and her spirit.
"A long time ago, my ancestor Paikea came to this place on the back of a whale. Since then, in every generation of my family, the first born son has carried his name and become the leader of our tribe... until now. "
"The wind blows so hard the ocean gets up on its hind legs and walks right across the land. "
Key Largo is an intelligent thriller directed by John Huston. Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart were magnetic in Key Largo. Claire Trevor won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her part as Gaye Dawn, Johnny Rocco's alcoholic girlfriend.
The Machinist, starring Christian Bale as a guilt-ridden insomniac stuck in a living nightmare, unfolds in such an intelligent manner that you feel trapped along with him. His emaciated, litheless body is so disturbing that it adds to the feeling that the film evokes. Unlike other films, this one satisfies the viewer with the conclusion, and the horror of it all finally makes sense.
Great performance from Bale. Although a strange film, this one makes my favorite list.
"So this is permanence; love-shattered pride. What once was innocence, has turned on its side."
The fact that this black and white profile of Ian Curtis, (lead singer of Joy Division) was written from the memoirs of his ex-wife Debbie said a lot to me.
The first time I tried to watch this film, I couldn't get into it and shut it off. The second time, however, it gripped me. The poetry of Ian Curtis, and the haunting eyes of Sam Riley who played him captured my attention. The film mirrors his performances with the struggles going on in his life. I loved the music, but I can see where this film might not be everyone's cup of tea.
Brilliant performances by Sam Riley and Samantha Morton who played Debbie Curtis (ex-wife).
