Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Along with War Photographer, it's my favorite documentary so far. The cinematography was flawless. The commentaries were coming from the bottom of their heart and showed a lot of emotions and kindness. I'm also a big fan of Sigur Rós and I hope to see them again in show. But seeing them in Iceland must be the best show you could ever attend.

In 1980 Miami, a determined Cuban immigrant takes over a drug empire while succumbing to greed. what can i say Pacino gives an amazing performance that is both comic and tragic in this remake of the 1932 classic about corruption in America. Pacino's character wants the world and everything in it. That's what he gets. We are reminded to beware of what we wish for. on my list of Best movies i own ( look at all my list )

If I said anything else you'd just get more frustrated that I wrote so much and had the sand to send it to you... but I really did adore this film, so I'm hoping others will one day share the love.

Before I saw this, I was aware that alongside Knocked Up, this film has achieved the highest rate of good (mostly great) reviews of the year, thus, it is the Best Reviewed Movie of the Year (albeit it limited release). So, I had high expectations and could only live to be dissapointed...

All I knew of the film was that it was a modern musical set in Dublin, and that its singer played some Van Morrison and a score of original releases...

What I found was something much different. At a very low run time of one hour and twenty five minutes, it was surprising how slow its pacing was, accountable mostly to the complete lack of plot (nothing truly unravels between the time that our protagonist meets the girl, they find a band and they record. Such an invisible plot line however, is absolutely perfect. There is also no breaking out into song and dance, but slow and beautiful transitions into street performances, studio practices and in the bedroom lullabies that deliver like Shakesperian monologues.

Though repetitive in its last eight minutes, the music is absolutely fantastic and the relationship (not a Romantic one) is incredibly deep for such mysteriously underrealized characters.

A film lacking in plot, full character development and misaimed pacing would normally never pass the radar as well as this one has... but as its a film about music, and it certainly knows music, it's no wonder its charming dialogue, its powerful yet subtle performances and stunning musical numbers harmonize perfectly.

Once is not only one of the best films of the year in its own idiosyncratic manner, it's also the absolute best contribution to the slowly dying genre of the musical.

    Note:
This entire decade has seen very few musicals, and even the ones that were released have been quite harmful to the reputation and quality of the genre (ex: Rent) despite the best intentions. So here, in no order, are my particular recommendations for "Musicals of The Decade 00":

Dancer in the Dark (Lars Von Trier, 2000)

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (John Cameron Mitchell, 2001)

    Once (John Carney, 2007)

The Singing Detective (Keith Gordon, 2003)

    Chicago (Rob Marshall, 2003)

Also... "Across the Universe" which is to be released later this years looks promising... and I haven't seen "Dreamgirls" yet.

I'm committing myself to a internet survey for the next week. Did anyone females over the age of 12, or men in general, actually enjoy themselves through this enduring 2 hour cute fest? I thought Amelie was chock full of child like spasms and pampered/naive female characters, but this one takes the care. No film has ever been so dedicated in making its certainly illeterate if not overly autistic demographic (aka, target audience) sob, squeel and reach for their feather pillow, the closest thing to foreplay these squads of mud-fucks will ever see in their life times.

What kind of limping eight year old girl writes this crap? It's like some blew a load off the back of a Hallmark card and forget to clean the leftovers from what ever third rate lens they were using.

Okay, it's not that sickening but hey, it left me out of the picture and is offensive to anyone else who can see past shitty melodrama performed like a three year old dress up party.

Not only am I demanding that you all refuse to see this movie, or if you do to hate it as if there's no tomorrow, I demand that we unite together and send this monstrosity of a "movie genre" back to the firey pits it emerged from. Teeny Bopper Intercity Dance numbers are not original and the performers always sag next to the backup street extras who barely get screen time as it is during the inevitable duet/finale scenes. This includes Take the Lead, Stomp the Yard, Save the Last Dance, and any other piece of trash interracial masquerade whose only claims to fame is 20 minutes max of actual dance performing.

Come my brethren, unite and destroy the market for these moveis before it is too late! The Dirty Dancing of old is no more, it is time we slay the supporters of these movies and show them there's no tomorrow for the likes of them!

    Thank you.
