Absolutely perfect in every possible way. This is easily my favorite of the series, introducing the best character ever created - Captain Jack Sparrow. It's got comedy, action, adventure, romance and Johnny Depp! The perfect film with an amazing cast and truly unique and original storyline. Jack Sparrow has become like an icon for Johnny Depp, he will always be remembered as the greatest, wildest and most charming pirate ever to make it in a movie. Anyone who hasn't seen this must be crazy!
This just proves that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton make the most amazing films together. This movie is so sad, wonderful, touching, beautiful... and just perfect. Johnny Depp was so cute and adorable as Edward Scissorhands. This is one of the sweetest and most heartwarming films ever made; I get the greatest feeling every time I watch it. A true masterpiece that will be remembered for years to come. It's no surprise that this is my second favorite movie of all time.
This has to be one of my favourite films ever, no doubt about that. When I first walked into the cinema to see this, I knew I was going to love it.. but I had no idea I would enjoy this film as much as I did. It had that distinctive Tim Burton 'style' to it. Dark, mysterious, eerie, bloody and humorous. You could call this a mixture of genres.. obviously it is a musical, but it's just as much of a horror movie as it is a comedy.
Johnny Depp is Sweeney Todd.. the demon barber of Fleet Street. A dark character that comes across as a revenge-seeking, sinister person. All you need to know about this plot is that Sweeney Todd was once locked away from his wife and daughter, and came back to London to seek revenge. After his first killing Mrs Lovett, played by Helena Bonham Carter, suggests using the flesh in meat pies. From then the story unfolds in itself, creating some unexpected plot turns and an outstanding end to this masterpiece. Tim Burton directs one of the greatest movies ever made, making it really his own. Another reason to see this is if you absolutely love Tim's style of movies, you will love Sweeney Todd.
Johnny Depp showed yet again how he is one of the best actors of his generation, and has proved to me why he is my all-time favourite actor. This was something completely different for him.. singing. I personally thought he was brilliant, the perfect actor with the perfect voice for Sweeney Todd. Seeing Helena Bonham Carter in this movie has made me admire her a lot more as an actress, she made her character certainly a lot more entertaining than I can imagine anyone else doing. She really made another stand-out performance for me. Alan Rickman was everything you would imagine his character to be, hitting some tunes and bringing a sinister feel to his character. Sacha Baron Cohen provided a couple of entertaining scenes, while Timothy Spall was just as you would imagine him to be.
I can't express in words how much I loved this film, but I tried. I would strongly recommend this to anyone, just be prepared that this is a musical. Other than that... enjoy!
One of the best films ever made, purely because it is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining films to watch. This was one of the first films, if not the first, of Heath Ledger's movies that I saw. After this movie I completely fell in love with him and his movies, If you ever want to find out what a great actor he is then this is the perfect example. This movie has it all - action, comedy, romance and an all-star cast. 5 stars, 10/10, 100% brilliant!
Yet again Johnny Depp and Tim Burton created one of the best movies ever made, completely different from the original one. I still really liked the 1970s version, but this was just completely amazing to be, easily more enjoyable than the original. Johnny Depp couldn't have aced the role of Willy Wonka any better, the voice.. the look.. yes he may look a little 'different' than he normally does, but you just have to admire his extraordinary talent for making this film highly enjoyable.
This movie is absolutely amazing! I would give it 10 stars if i could! The story is very powerful and unlike any other that I have seen before. Watching this should make you feel sad, but the ending leaves you with a really nice feeling. It really is all about hope, redemption and freedom. The cast were perfect for their roles, especially the two main characters played by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Overall this is one of the best movies I have ever seen! Definitely one of my faves!
I finally saw it and I have no regrets, it was fully awesome. It wasn't exactly scary, but the setting and music gave it a spooky vibe which I loved.
The story is simple - A visiting investigator, Ichabod Crane [Johnny Depp] comes to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the murder of three people, who have all had their heads chopped off by the Headless Horseman [Christopher Walken]. But soon three turns to four, and before you know it everyone is in danger of being murdered. Ichabod soon discovers that the killings are not just at random, but being controlled by someone on the inside in exchange for the Horseman's head. Along the way of finding the clues of to who is also responsible, Ichabod begins to know a towns girl, Katrina [Christina Ricci] and when she is in danger things start to get a little more personal for Ichabod.
Though it aims to be spooky, it does have its funny scenes which Johnny is perfect for.
This is just more proof that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton make wonderful movies together, and that is why I love both of their movies.
One of the best films of the year in my opinion. It combines comedy with action and does it brilliantly. This is not one to be missed.
Sergeant Nicholas Angel gets transferred to a quite town of Sandford, where at first everything seems crime-related as the first night there he arrests a bunch of people. One of these them was Danny Butterman, his new partner and boss' son. It is only soon after Angel arrives that a series of murders occur and he is the only one in that village that is determined to find out who is responsible, as everyone else seems to think they are "accidents". So Angel and Danny team up and do all they can to find out who is responsible, delivering fantastic action scenes and hilarious lines.
Simon Pegg was brilliant in every possible way. His character was perfect for him and he just made it 100% better than anyone else could have done. Everything was just perfectly placed with an amazing script. The direction was superb, strange style but I really liked it. I'll definitely be checking out more of Edgar Wright's films. Please, if you haven't already - see this movie!
"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
The Dark Knight was a film that I had extremely high expectations set for. As my most anticipated film of 2008, with one of the most talented actors ever - Heath Ledger - in his last completed performance, and a convincing take on the Batman franchise with director Christopher Nolan's first Batman film, Batman Begins in 2005; this could have easily gone either way. I have been extremely disappointed before with films like this that have had my excitement ever since they have been announced, but The Dark Knight has proven to be one that I am incredibly happy with. Astoundingly happy with in fact; it has proven to be an absolute masterpiece and did not disappoint me in any way at all.
The Dark Knight has what I consider to be a extensive running time, but I can say with certainty that it was one of the best two and a half hours of my life. The whole film overall was striking and potent to an extreme so far that I was speechless throughout the whole viewing. It has been a long, long time since watching a movie has had this much of an impact on myself.
Being a fan of the Batman franchise in general, and particularly the recent Batman Begins, the whole idea of a sequel to the Christopher Nolan addition was spectacular even just to think about. Finally seeing it on the big screen was almost impossibly amazing to watch. The story was unbelievably powerful and transfixing, creating an atmosphere so alluring and compelling that the viewer has no choice but to become completely connected within the movie. Gotham has had its share of notorious villains before, but the new wave of crime coming from the psychopathic killer, The Joker, sends chaos throughout the city. Some consider Batman a hero, while others see him as a villain on his own. But when The Joker is exposed to the city, the two are willing to change every part of what they believe in to stop the other. In amongst these two defining characters, several other unlikely ones are introduced, bringing even more chaos to Gotham and creating an even more intricate plot.
Christopher Nolan's directing was phenomenal and completely ingenious. Coming back after Batman Begins with no mistakes and absolutely no moments that weren't needed, his talent shines with his latest masterpiece. Every single moment during The Dark Knight was enthralling and engrossing beyond anything I have experienced before. I was left in awe, and I'm sure the whole cinema was stunned by how affecting this film is. The ending is conclusive, but unsurprisingly is left with more than enough space for a third installment of Nolan's Batman films, which I would be all for is that was the case. After seeing Nolan's sequel, it's clear to me that he simply can't go wrong.
The screenplay was riveting and was exactly what was needed. Perfect, in my view. Some of the scenes were indescribable with the excellence in screenplay, and each line was perfect and added entirety to the overall film. It was incredibly gripping to watch, and sometimes even humorous. There were times when the whole cinema erupted with laughter - particularly parts coming from the joker. One of the greatest things about The Dark Knight is that it should do more than satisfy any viewer; bringing all kinds of genres into place and a variety of different aspects shown.
Christian Bale could be the best actor to ever take the role of Batman in my opinion. He executes to character perfectly and gives a mesmerizing and influential performance that is both gripping and engaging. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker has left me speechless. He went into the character very deep and really 'became' the Joker. He is chilling and terrifying throughout his role performance, giving a very different and unique take on the Joker, and for better. Just by taking one glance at the criminal is spine-chilling, and the unusual but also remarkable voice has the same effect. I will mention in particular a certain scene with the "why so serious" speech, which had a huge impact on what I thought of the performance overall. That scene was indescribable... it really showed the depth that Heath put into his character and the darkness to the Joker. It also hit me with reality of what talent Heath still had to show us but we will never see, but I am grateful that we get to witness his mind-blowing performance in The Dark Knight. Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent is very powerful to watch. His performance exceeded my expectations and is incomparable to any other actor that could have pulled off the role as well as he did. Watching Michael Caine return once again as Alfred, Bruce Wayne's faithful butler has made me more aware of his incredible talent. He is a more than worthy addition to this already strong cast. Maggie Gyllenhaal was also brilliant to watch, giving a riveting performance, a lot better than I would have expected. I thought that Gary Oldman's character, James Gordon, was focused on a lot more than I would have predicted. This was a positive thing of course, with Gary Oldman delivering an exceptional performance far better than any other could match. Morgan Freeman was also an excellent addition to the cast, adding a whole lot more diversity to the actors, and of course his performance is transfixing as you would imagine it to be. Overall, the cast of The Dark Knight were incredible and perfectly fitted to their characters, the kind of cast that is very rare to find with the diverse and immense talent.
The Dark Knight cannot be described simply, if it can be described at all. There is no option with this, it's a must see if you want to call yourself a fan of the actors, director, Batman franchise, or even just a fan of movies in general; you must see it for yourself. Ledger's last performance is captivating just as the other performances are, the directing is riveting, the script is gripping and the overall movie is stunning, striking and noticeably dark. I have no doubt that this film will earn the success it deserves - this is a true masterpiece.
"I also know how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong. To measure yourself at least once. To find yourself at least once in the most ancient of human conditions. Facing the blind death stone alone, with nothing to help you but your hands and your own head."
Into the Wild kept me engrossed and in complete awe for its entire length. It has proven to be perfect through my eyes, and I film that I will surely treasure and admire for years to come. With a potent and gripping story, incredibly beautiful and stunning scenery, and full of mesmeric and moving performances, this film is one that certainly can't be overlooked.
Based on the bestselling novel, Into the Wild tells the poignant and riveting story of Chris McCandless' life and the extraordinary adventures he came across. After graduating, Chris abandons his life with his corrupt family and leaves his past life behind, with a vision and dream to make his way to Alaska and live his life in the wild. Along the way on his adventure, he encounters many characters and events that impact his life, encountering many challenges as well as many emotional, heartbreaking and rewarding experiences. His pursuit of freedom and personal triumph becomes a ride full of many emotions and confronting imagery, but is held together beautifully by transfixing performances and overall striking scenery, capturing every aspect needed for a masterpiece.
The ending was effortlessly remarkable and astonishing. It is rare for a film to leave me as emotional as I was at the climax and end of Into the Wild. It just had that spark of hope even at the end when the story becomes heartrending and powerful beyond anything I would have expected or have seen before. Through all of the sadness and emotions even of disappointment, I found a message that will stay with me forever and satisfaction that this film did in my opinion end on a high note.
The directing by Sean Penn was incomparable and exceptional. The overall look and feel of the film came almost entirely from the masterful and appealing directing, which showed breathtaking and spectacular shots of scenery and throughout, making the whole experience more imitable and enthralling. The screenplay was incredible beyond words. There were countless points in the movie when I felt completely compelled and engrossed in the film, which gave Into the Wild the ability to take the viewer to a whole new world and forget that we're watching a movie. There were several points in the film when the words spoken gave an incredible sense of success and freedom, delivering some emotions that I haven't felt while watching a film for a long, long time.
The original soundtrack from Into the Wild was incredible and entirely mesmeric and potent throughout the entire film. It provided entirety to the complete atmosphere and stunning scenery that Into the Wild delivered. The best moments in this film were held together by the striking score, and had the ability to completely captivate them within its unique story. Even after the film comes to its moving and poignant end, as the music plays it gives an incredible feeling to the viewer. It certainly stayed in my head long after the movie had finished, and is now recognizable to be as one of the key reasons why I loved and admired the overall film so much.
Emile Hirsch was outstanding and brilliant for every moment he was on screen. He gave an incredible and gripping performance, delivering inimitable and transfixing performance and some remarkable emotions. This level of success continued throughout the entire film, and as his character changed the same compelling and expressive performance was kept. He was through my eyes the perfect Chris McCandless, and now I couldn't ever imagine anyone else with the same role and perfecting it as he did. Marcia Gay Harden and William Hurt were extensively engaging for their smaller roles. Jena Malone was also incredible and gave an engrossing and exceptional performance. Her words came perfectly for her narration in Into the Wild, and added to the powerful and enthralling atmosphere. Catherine Keener and Brian H. Dierker as some of the unlikely characters that Chris came across were also brilliant. Kristen Stewart, Vince Vaughn and Hal Holbrook were among the other names that significantly contributed with their near perfect performances. The character of Chris seemed was obviously the main focus, but even other smaller roles contributed to the overall impact the film maintained.
Overall, Into the Wild was a film that I am incredibly happy and pleased to have seen. This is a film that achieves perfection through all elements and tells a tragic and remarkable tale. See this for stunning directing, impressive scenery, powerful acting, a heartbreaking story and overall an appealing atmosphere. I strongly recommend this to anyone and everyone, a film that can't be ignored and one to be treasured by all viewers.
Nothing can go wrong with this masterpiece. Johnny Depp as usual perfected his character, and though the story was a little slow starting I really got into the mystery sorounding it.
Even I was surprised at the twist at the end; you wouldn't expect it to end in that way too. But surprisingly I liked the ending, after all, the ending is the most important part of the story. This one is very good, this one is perfect.
This has to be one of the best thrillers of all time, it was so well crafted and put together. It really amazed me with the amount of time making this movie as perfect as it could be, adding every last touch to make the ending surprising and unexpected, but at the same time making sure to place clues in the film.
I can explain the plot with a simple quote from the movie:
"Once upon a time there was this person named Malcolm. He worked with children. He loved it. He loved it more than anything else. And then one night, he found out that he made a mistake with one of them. He couldn't help that one. And he can't stop thinking about it, he can't forget. Ever since then, things have been different. He's not the same person that he used to be. And his wife doesn't like the person that he's become. They barely speak anymore, they're like strangers. And then one day Malcolm meets this wonderful little boy, a really cool little boy. Reminds him a lot of the other one. And Malcolm decides to try and help this new boy. 'Cause he feels that if he can help this new boy, it would be like helping that other one too."
If you watch it again and you know the twist, you notice the different clues placed in the movie that you would take no notice of the first time. It certainly came as a complete surprise to me, but it ended perfectly in that it satisfied you with everything you need to know. It actually plays back the clues as the character is discovering the 'twist' so it's not easy no get confused.
Definitely worth seeing if you haven't already, Bruce Willis was amazing and Haley J Osment's performance was brilliant. Go see it now!
One of the most amazing movies ever. That's it, this movie is just brilliant. It took me a while to actually watch the whole thing, but I am so glad I did.
Luckily this was so successful that many people have already seen this, and most of them have given this a great rating. It probably deserves 5 stars, but for not I think I'll give it 4.5. But If I watch it again I'm certain that I'll make my rating higher.
Just the atmosphere that this movie creates is unreal; the fighting scenes are spectacular and the more serious scenes are acted brilliantly. And I have Russell Crowe to thank for that, he truly is amazing. And Joaquin Phoenix was the perfect villain, I can't imagine anyone playing the role better than he did.
The ending is beautiful in itself, this is definitely one of Ridley Scott's best films. If you were like me and haven't seen this yet, you know you should. And I would be really surprised if you don't like this movie masterpiece.
"....I have reached the end of your book and... there are so many things that I need to ask you. Sometimes I'm afraid of what you might tell me. Sometimes I'm afraid that you'll tell me that this is not a work of fiction. I can only hope that the answers will come to me in my sleep. I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to."
Donnie Darko is a modern masterpiece of a film, when I started watching it I expected it to be good, but no where near as great as it turned out to be. It is dark, humorous, Intriguing and captivating from the moment it starts until it's mysterious end. It is completely original and creative, it blends all of the elements that I would want to see in a movie and does it magnificently well. It's just visually stunning and dazzling to watch, the setting was perfect for this to take place and it seems as though everyone who watches this will get something special out of this movie. Again, the story is completely unique and different from just any average film. It's compelling and interesting to see such a story in a movie, there are so many possibilities and outcomes that it can produce in your mind, it's like an illusion. The ending was more than just a twist, it changed the whole film. It was shown brilliantly what the outcome of the movie is, I had to sit and contemplate for a while after the credits had finished to completely understand what I had just seen. The song 'Mad World' playing at the end finished the movie off perfectly. In fact, I loved how the whole soundtrack fitted in with the movie..
Jake Gyllenhaal's performance was so convincing and just brilliant, I wouldn't have expected something like that from him. He certainly pulled off the title role better than anyone I could imagine, the truly made the movie unforgettable. After seeing him as Donnie Darko I have a completely different view of him as an actor, that's just another reason that I'm glad I saw this.
Overall this is a must see movie, I should have seen is sooner. If you haven't already, see it now. Right now. Yes now!
"Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in."
American Beauty was a movie that came to me highly recommended, and applauded by critics as a masterpiece. After watching it, it's obvious that nothing less can be said about this film. American Beauty is a masterpiece and a truly impressive film, one to be treasured for years to come, and unquestionably worthy of the numerous awards it has received.
The story that is told in American Beauty is beautiful and pleasing to watch for the most part, but also intricate and with deep meaning. Not often does a film come across with such a powerful message as this one has, and it stays with the viewer long after the film comes to an end. It follows the events of Lester Burnham, a somewhat depressed man in his early forties. His marriage is at downfall and his teenage daughter is uncaring and wants nothing to do with him. A series of events follow that lead Lester to change his life around; falling in love with his daughter's friend, drugs and quitting his job. Multiple stories within the film are told, as his daughter falls in love with the next-door neighbour and his wife realises that she wants more than her corrupt life with her family. The story starts off simply as it introduces characters and a setting, which don't seem too inimitable at the time, but as the story goes on and we travel deeper into the life of 42 year-old Lester Burnham, it becomes clear that these things aren't all that they seem to be. The characters seem to be easily related to a community such as the suburbia in which this film is set, and all have a great realism towards the story.
Probably the most impressive component to this film was the screenplay. Written by Alan Ball, it made the film so much more compelling and riveting to watch. Each line was clever and humorous to some extent, which created an enormous insight to the story and characters. This is the perfect example of how important a screenplay is, and the perfect example of how clever it can be. The directing by Sam Mendes was incredibly fulfilling and insightful to the affecting story. He created a film that is both moving and emotional, but also extremely transfixing to watch. The score was contemporary and highly expressive, adding to the entire feel of the movie. It perfectly fitted the the events and gave the film a more genuine and realistic edge.
The cast was incredible; a great mix of versatile actors, all very different from one another. Kevin Spacey as the lead role gave a phenomenal performance. After watching this film I honestly can't think of anyone else with the role of Lester Burnham. He was perfect for his character and he was gripping and potent throughout the entire film. Annette Bening was also incredible to watch, her performance was mesmerizing and she became her character to an extent that was extraordinary. Thora Birch as Lester's insecure and bemused daughter was also amazing to watch. She gave a brilliant performance beyond what I would have expected. Wes Bentley gave an electrifying performance, adding to the diversity between the many supporting actors in this film. He gave another great performance and one that connects well with the viewer. Mena Suvari was surprisingly exceptional for her role; her performance more likeable than her character. Chris Cooper and Peter Gallagher were also nice additions to the impressive cast, giving riveting and powerful performances.
American Beauty is one of the best movies ever made, and I am extremely glad that I have seen it. With a unique story, ingenious screenplay and directing, enthralling performances and full of complete beauty that is astounding to watch, American Beauty is a must-see film for anyone and everyone.
'When it came to making bad movies, Ed Wood was the best.'
Maybe it was just Johnny Depp doing the striptease in woman's clothing.. but I really, really enjoyed watching this film. Johnny Depp working together with Tim Burton again, nothing can go wrong with this dynamic duo. Johnny Depp; the talented, brilliant, amazing and good looking actor. While Tim Burton is creative, wonderful, different, sometimes strange.. but together they make the most amazing movies. Ed Wood is no different to the others.
Ed Wood is eccentric, strange yet interesting. Each of Johnny Depp's characters are different to each other, all with their strengths and weaknesses.. but I found Ed Wood really enjoyable to see on the screen, somehow Tim Burton created him as sometimes loving and caring, and sometimes fun and exciting. This film is all about Ed Wood the director, his movies and his life.
It's hard to imagine any other actor playing Ed Wood as well as Johnny Depp did, he gave him so much more character and definitely made this movie a whole lot more entertaining. Martin Landau deserves to be mentioned for his brilliant performance, he was pretty much perfect for his role, I couldn't ask for anyone better. I normally can't stand Sarah Jessica Parker.. she's not exactly my favourite actress. But in this I survived watching her, probably only because Johnny Depp was on the screen whenever she was. Jeffrey Jones was a nice addition to the cast, another regular to Tim Burton's films and in this he was great as always. Oh, and Bill Murray was also excellent, another actor who made this movie more enjoyable.
I haven't really seen any other film like this before, so it was nice to see something different. It definitely has Tim Burton's style of directing, this is informative, enjoyable and humorous. I'd recommend anyone to see this for themselves.. I think I'm finally getting over my dislike for black and white films.
It was beautiful and amazing in ways it is hard to describe, this is definitely one of the best movies I have seen..
It is the story of Tristan and his family of two brothers and what life is like for them. Together they bond well when they were young, and the story follows through to when they are men and decide to go to war. And that's just the start of it, it follows all the events of Tristan's life, who he has lost, who he loved and the many adventures he faced.
Brad Pitt gave this movie a whole new perspective. I can't imagine it being the same without him, he put so much emotion into his character and made the movie more memorable.
Anthony Hopkins as the father was also a fantastic choice, perfect for his role in this movie. The only slight casting problem was Julia Ormond - Maybe it was just her character but I really didn't like her at all in this movie..
I recommend this to anyone, whether you like sad films or not this is a must see!
"How many lives do we live? How many times do we die? They say we all lose 21 grams... at the exact moment of our death. Everyone. And how much fits into 21 grams? How much is lost? When do we lose 21 grams? How much goes with them? How much is gained? How much is gained? Twenty-one grams. The weight of a stack of five nickels. The weight of a hummingbird. A chocolate bar. How much did 21 grams weigh?"
21 Grams is an intense and expressive film that has left me astonished and in complete awe of it's ability to keep the viewer compelled for it's entirety; this is a film that certainly can't be ignored.
21 Grams tells a tragic story that is both riveting and gripping from the very moment it begins. It starts with even slight confusion and with a mystifying atmosphere, but as the film goes on it begins to unfold and we see truly what this has to offer. The story is one of tragedy, death, guilt and overall redemption and forgiveness. It centers around three characters, which all eventually coincide with each other, both for better and worse. One of these characters is Paul Rivers, an ill heart transplant patent with corruption both with his health and his relationship with his partner. Another is Cristina Peck, a brokenhearted wife and mother of a tragic accident, with confusion throughout her life. The final character in which this alluring film is centering around is Jack Jordan, an ex-con that was part of an event that changed and impacted his life. When these three come together questions are answered and more arise, as we gradually find out more about these people and their past, and what has brought them together.
One of the main elements that I loved in 21 Grams was the capability it had to keep the viewer transfixed within the story, without entirely knowing what is going on at any one time. It offers a rare style that is not tried frequently enough, by retelling the story using only small clips at a time, ranging from the end to the beginning to the middle and randomly back again... this in itself made the film unique and incomparable to any other in it's league. With all of this going on, it still manages to keep a fast pace and an intriguing style. The ending was one to leave the viewer in complete awe. It was profound and deep beyond many other films I have seen before, making 21 Grams stand out and impress even more.
Alejandro González Iñárritu gave this film the clever, expressive and riveting direction that it needed to achieve its high standard. He have an insightful view on the characters, and attained the strong and transfixing style of un-chronological order which has defined this film. The always breathtaking and arousing direction made 21 Grams a film that I am incredibly happy to have seen. Through the range of emotions that this film delivered, at any one moment I didn't even consider the possibility of not being entertained.
The soundtrack also added to the momentous and potent feeling of the overall film, making it even more of a significant experience.
Sean Penn was incredible and absolutely a lot better than anyone else imaginable for the same role. He delivered a powerful performance full of emotion and to the extent that I rarely ever see in films. He gave the whole film a lot deeper and more gripping meaning, certainly satisfying any viewer. Naomi Watts was also amazing for her role. She gave the tremendous ability to change from different emotions in short spaces of time. She showed many different feelings coming from her character, and therefore gave a strong sense of expression and passion at any one time. Benicio Del Toro's performance was incomparable... he was gripping and exhilarating, adding to the overall feel of the film and the diversity of characters. Charlotte Gainsbourg contributed extensively even for her smaller role, giving a transfixing and strong performance. Melissa Leo, Clea DuVall and Eddie Marsan were better than average, but didn't have the ability to keep the viewer as allured as other actors do.
Overall, 21 Grams is an enthralling and incredibly intense film that I strongly recommend to anyone interested. Full of gripping performances, a potent and poignant story, masterful directing and a moving and profound message - this is one that simply cannot be missed.
One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. This movie was made to perfection and I enjoyed watching it from start to finish.
Edward Norton plays a drug dealer named Monty Brogan who has just been caught with drugs at his house and it about to serve a seven year jail sentence. This movie shows how he spends his last hours of freedom and who he chooses to trust when it comes to who was part of getting him arrested in the first place. Even the closest people he knows could be involved, but it's all about his last night and wondering whether o not he will eve survive being locked away for that long.
Once again, not to my surprise Edward Norton was 100% amazing in this film. He perfected his character, showed great emotion and couldn't have possibly been any better for his role in this film. All the character development is outstanding, and the cast was just about perfect for the characters. Brian Cox I thought was just as great for his part, the emotion from him being brilliant. Philip Seymour Hoffman couldn't have been much better either, his part seemed smaller than the others but really it just wouldn't have been the same without him. And Barry Pepper? I honestly can't remember seeing him in any other films before, but he is a fantastic actor and I really should check out some of his other films. Rosario Dawson was okay. Nothing at all wrong with her acting I've just never really liked he films. I guess this one made me like her a bit more though; she is quite a good actress.
The ending was brilliant in every possible way. I couldn't think of a better way to end this movie, it may seem a little bit confusing but once you know what happens you're just left with a good feeling that stays with you long after the movie. This movie is one in a million, there's nothing quite like it that I?ve seen before. Maybe it even deserves five stars, but for the moment I?ll stick with 4.5. You really, really, really should see this!
"...And you just remember that your old man walked Ben Wade to that station when nobody else would."
3:10 to Yuma is an extremely gratifying and poignant film that has exceeded all expectations and values that I would have ever wanted. At first glance 3:10 to Yuma doesn't look quite as rewarding as it turned out to be, but I am more than happy that I have seen it.
The story itself is clever and affecting beyond any other western movie that I have seen before. I'm not much of a fan of western movies, but with this amazing line up of actors a promising look, I decided that I would have to find out what this film is really like. Although the story seems simple, even so it can easily be called unique and memorable nonetheless. It tells an exceptional story of apprehension and desperation, and eventually leads to pride and an emotional and inner battle for recognition and self-importance.
The ending was impressive and certainly unforgettable. It makes the overall film very moving and incredible to watch. As it reaches the climax within the last few scenes, I began to realise how incredible the film was relating to the deep connections and how gripping the story became. 3:10 to Yuma ends on a high note and keeps the viewer still compelled until the very last moment when in reaches an astounding and somehow mystifying end.
3:10 to Yuma soon became an intense and riveting film, delivering strong emotion and some enthralling battles and western style action. James Mangold's directing was incredible and astonishing beyond anything I would have imagined. He perfectly brought the story onto the big screen. The cinematography is also to be commended, there were many beautiful shots throughout the film, giving 3:10 to Yuma a stunning and dramatic setting, perfect for this particular story to take place.
The score was tremendous and exhilarating, easily becoming an essential part to creating the complete atmosphere of this film. Even as the end credits begin to start, the score seems most memorable and recognisable as a key part to the film, especially at it's most appropriate end.
The acting overall was engaging and powerful, which was essential for the unique characters which were all incredibly appropriate for the actors. Russell Crowe as the famed outlaw Ben Wade was a choice beyond perfect. He completely aced his role and gave a strong and thrilling performance. Christian Bale was also brilliant for his role. He was potent and remarkable, and again was the perfect casting choice. Logan Lerman shined and showed what incredible talent he has, also giving an exceptional performance. Dallas Roberts was impressive and created even a memorable character for his slightly smaller role. I must say that Ben Foster gave an incredibly intense and electrifying performance. He quickly exceeded every expectation I had for him and gave an extremely powerful and truly unforgettable performance. Peter Fonda was also striking and notable, another familiar face. Alan Tudyk has always been an actor that I have admired, and seeing him in 3:10 to Yuma has again proved that he has a lot of talent that he continues to show.
I've never seen the original 3:10 to Yuma, but seeing this version has made me realise that western films can certainly be impressive and entertaining. This is a pleasurable and provoking film that should be seen by all, and I strongly recommend this to anyone that hasn't seen it... western movie lover or not, this is a must see film. Some aspects are indescribable because of their amazing originality, and how it is so incredible surreal.. but when it comes down to it 3:10 to Yuma is astonishing and brilliant beyond words.
"You know, we are sitting here, you and I, like a couple of regular fellas. You do what you do, and I do what I gotta do. And now that we've been face to face, if I'm there and I gotta put you away, I won't like it. But I tell you, if it's between you and some poor bastard whose wife you're gonna turn into a widow, brother, you are going down."
Heat was an outstanding and enthralling film that delivers emotions that continue to intrigue the viewer long after the film comes to its final conclusion. It is a rare film that should not be missed for any occasion; exciting and compelling from the moment it begins.
Robert De Niro is Neil McCauley, an expert in his area. He happens to be a thief and an exceptional one too. He finds himself and his crew being chased down by Detective Vincent Hanna, a man who seems to stop at nothing to put his city out of danger. Both criminal and detective have their own glitches in their personal lives, and we go deeper into these as we explore both of their lives and ways of living. Eventually these two will come face to face and have to make decisions that will change the course of their lives, and experience things that make it clear that it's a challenge between masterminds of the opposite sides of the law.
Heat exceeds all expectations for its genre. It soon becomes an exhilarating and fast paced thrill ride, but manages to keep other aspects as key parts of the plot itself. As well as being an action thriller, elements of drama, mystery & romance come across strongly. Heck, there's even some light humor numerous times. This makes Heat the type of film any movie lover would enjoy, and surely any fan of Michael Mann would have to be impressed for several different reasons.
For starters, Michael Mann has talent behind the camera that very few others can match. His ability to make the viewer this captivated and compelled to the plot and characters is simply extraordinary. Not only has he directed Heat, but he has also used his ability to create and write the story itself, which can't be given any rank lower than magnificent. It's rare for a film to leave me this connected to the plot and literally on the edge of my seat for almost its entire length. Even if Heat isn't delivering a full on action scene with loads of guns and exhilarating moments, it can still leave the viewer on the edge of their seat in astonishment of the drama and gripping story that this film delivers. Even the score adds entirety to the atmosphere when it is most needed. For the most part of Heat though, the atmosphere comes simply from the stunning imagery and cinematography. Even just the element used within silence creates the full scene, which is visually amazing to watch.
Even just the cast in itself is more than enough reason to see Heat. With an all-star cast that give strong and powerful performances, the acting talent in heat comes just as brilliant as the other elements. Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are the two responsible for the leading roles. Just as expected, they give breathtaking performances that give the whole movie even more reason to be impressive and unforgettable. Both Pacino and De Niro were equally remarkable and incredible to watch. Val Kilmer also gave striking and alluring performance, showing emotions outstandingly well. Jon Voight was also exceptional for his supporting role, adding to riveting atmosphere.
Overall Heat was a movie that I am thrilled to have finally seen, and in awe of its tremendous ability to keep the viewer entertained and compelled for its entire length. This crime drama is thrilling and powerful, and should satisfy any viewer.
"I Need to know who he is. I need to stand there, I need to look him in the eye and I need to know that it's him."
Zodiac has proven to be one of the most astonishing and remarkable films I have seen in a long time, and certainly has made a spot on my favourite thrillers of all time. From start to finish, Zodiac is a chilling and fearsome movie that delivers chills and thrills throughout it's entire length, and manages to keep a mysterious and unanticipated ending.
Zodiac, based on true events, focuses on the serial killer in the San Francisco Bay area who called himself 'Zodiac'. Set in mostly in the '70s, this film captures the dark and unwelcoming events during the Zodiac's murders and case which still remains unsolved today. We can see from all points of view in this film, from witnessing the murders to the investigators and reporters somehow becoming obsessive with the case, and it's not long before the viewers soon become as captivated as the characters.
This film manages to maintain a high level of interest even throughout it's whole length of two and a half hours. It's not very often that I sit down and watch a movie and become as awestruck and mesmerized as I did in Zodiac, so that is certainly saying something. For me it was a film where it was impossible to take my eyes off of the screen, and although some (yet very little) parts were disturbing, I was still just as enthralled. Without my high interest in this film, I can understand that towards the end it might not have been quite as appreciated. As well as interest, you will need to pay attention to discover clues and find out how the case is progressing; otherwise I can guarantee that in the end you will be confused and therefore not value the overall film.
For me the cast were also brilliant and for the most of them, perfect for their chosen characters. Jake Gyllenhaal was incredible and gave a truly outstanding performance for his role, as did both Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. Zodiac has certainly made me appreciate these actors a lot more. Another honourable mention would have to go to Brian Cox; great actor, amazing performance.
Overall Zodiac is a film worth watching for movie lovers of all genres. Although this sits tight under thriller/mystery, this is a movie that should be seen by all; therefore I strongly recommend it.
"I don't mean to upset people, but I must speak my mind. For what's in my mind is far more interesting than what's outside my mind."
The Libertine is one of Johnny Depp's finest performances, and overall a simply brilliant movie. From it's more disturbing yet striking scenes to it's powerful and unique story; I couldn't wish for anything more from this movie.
Taking place in the 17th century, The Libertine centres around the life of John Wilmont, aka the Earl of Rochester. He is a corrupt, drunk and sexually active cynical poet, who has a distinctive love for the theatre. As the film goes on, we are witnessed to his reputation of being liked by the ladies, drinking, shagging and his sexual play. This usually wouldn't be a movie that I would choose to watch, but Johnny Depp made it an instant must-see for me, and I am now very happy and pleasantly surprised with my verdict.
Johnny Depp has given one of his best performances in The Libertine, once again showing what an incredible actor he is and what versatility he has between his various acting roles. John Malkovich has another exceptional movie added to his filmography, while there were other great performances from Rosamund Pike, Jack Davenport and Samantha Morton.
I highly recommend this movie, even just to see for yourself what it is like. I can't guarantee that everyone will like it, but it should at least be an interesting experience.
This is another outstanding Johnny Depp film that I am really glad that I have seen. It came highly recommended by friends, and I can say that I completely agree that this was a brilliant movie.
It's another flick where Johnny Depp is an inspector, in this case he is Inspector Fredderic Abberline. Abberline is assigned to investigate a series of murders which are all linked to Jack the Ripper. There are some very disturbing parts to this film, but I thought the murders weren't particularly bloody until it was close to the end.
Johnny Depp gave another exceptional performance, every thing he did in this film.. his every movement and every line he spoke was to complete perfection. Heather Graham was one of the more average actors, but still not a completely bad casting choice. Ian Holm was electrifying.. his performance was amazing and he truly gave the whole movie a lot more thrills. There were some other great supporting actors in this, including Robbie Coltrane and Jason Flemyng.
I strongly recommend for anyone to see this, definitely a great watch and an exceptional horror/thriller movie.
"We had a lot going for us. We'd found the secret glue that held all things together. In a perfect place, where the noise did not intrude, our world was so very complete."
Candy is an incredibly beautiful and powerful drama that kept me engrossed and compelled within the story for the entire length of the film. Within this potent film is a life drama full of love, drugs and an inseparable bond between two people.
The reason I picked up Candy to begin with was the fact that Heath Ledger has the lead role, but as this finished I found that I had witnessed much more than the gripping performance by him; but also one of the most expressive and affecting stories that I have ever seen. Heath Ledger is Dan, a poet who is very much in love with an art student; Candy. The two of them share the same lifestyle of an addiction to heroin and a lack of money. As the story goes on, it becomes clear that the only thing that matters to them is each other, and they will go to the extremes in order to stay with each other; nothing else matters. This has been done before - perhaps many times, but never to the extent that Candy has achieved. Usually this would start off with the meeting of the two, and then show how their two lives are affected as they change their lifestyle to be with each other. But this is much different, much more interesting and intriguing. We start off with the two of them already indivisible from each other, already as passionate towards each other as they are addicted to the drug. We then travel deeper into the story and meaning of the film, the consequences of the drug and their lifestyle appear and desperation takes place, causing them to give up everything but their love for each other.
Although the whole of this film is touching and strong, there were certainly parts which were especially emotional and heartrending. The brilliant performances from the actors combined with the innovative and convincing story was arousing to an extent that I had never seen before, making the viewing mesmerizing and beautiful to watch. The directing by Neil Armfield created the atmosphere needed - both gripping and striking to watch. Something I didn't know before watching Candy, was that it is in fact based a novel - 'Candy: A Novel of Love and Addiction' by Luke Davies. And it's that compelling story that holds the whole film together, that is the basis of this film which I have loved, and now I am more than interested in reading it.
The soundtrack of Candy somehow added to the realism of the story and perfectly matched with the events at the time. This kind of thing is often overlooked with a story like this, but I certainly appreciated it. During various scenes the score made the entire film more influential and absorbing, which is exactly what was needed to make this film even better than what could have been achieved.
Heath Ledger was exceptional and unparalleled, exceeding everything I would have expected from him. This has to be one of his best performances that I have seen, and watching this has made me admire him for his talents, as well as distressed that he had so much more to offer that we will never see. Abbie Cornish was incredible for her role as Candy, creating a character that had my sympathy as she expressed every emotion perfectly and spoke every line to a level that was incomparable. The chemistry between Ledger and Cornish was also something that can't be compared, the two of them together on screen is hard to describe - they have talent together that is very rare to see. Geoffrey Rush was a nice addition to the cast, and I felt he gave an incredible performance which was needed for his role. Overall, the acting in Candy can simply be described as brilliant and potent. A cast perfectly fitted to the characters, all giving moving performances.
In the end, Candy was a riveting and expressive film that I am very glad to have seen. Full of amazing performances and an interesting and unique story, this is a film that really should be seen by all fans of dramas and love stories. Of course, if you are a fan of Heath Ledger then this is a film that you simply can't ignore. A successful Australian drama film.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall has proven to be one of the funniest movies that I have seen, and will surely not be forgotten. Judd Apatow has succeeded yet again with his new comedy which is very much a romance/disaster movie.
Jason Segel is Peter Bretter, who within the first couple of minutes of this film has been dumped by his girlfriend, Sarah Marshall. The two work together on a TV show, 'Crime Scene'. Sarah being the lead star of the series, with her boyfriend Peter being responsible for the dodgy sound effects on the show. This has always left Peter out of the spotlight, with Sarah being known everywhere as the star of the show. So when Sarah comes home one day to find peter wearing nothing but a towel and reveals that she doesn't want to be with him anymore, you can imagine that Peter doesn't find this very good news. In-fact, he drops his towel and sits confused and paranoid thinking about life without Sarah Marshall.
So Peter, left broken hearted, seeks out advice from his brother, Brian. To Brian it seems that the best thing for Peter to do is go away on a holiday and escape everything that is reminding Peter or Sarah Marshall. But who does Peter find there at the Hawaiian resort, none other than the very person that he had been trying to escape, Sarah Marshall.
As you can imagine, every situation in this is turned comical. Whether it be laughing for the circumstances of what is happening to Peter, or at the uproarious themes and references from other characters, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a film that can guarantee you laughs.
As well as being a Judd Apatow picture, director Nicholas Stoller also contributes hugely to this film's success. But mostly the credit goes to the multi-talented Jason Segel. Not only did he have the lead role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but he also wrote the script which is the basis of this film's entertainment. He is a true star and I admire what he has put into this film, a great comedian and incredible actor. Kristen Bell as Sarah Marshall also gave an exceptional performance, giving the viewer a clear view of her character and feelings towards Sarah Marshall. Mila Kunis and Russell Brand were also admirable with their performances, Russell Brand in particular providing many entertaining scenes. Bill Hader, Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd were also hilarious and largely contributed to this film even with their smaller roles.
Overall, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is an intriguing and extremely entertaining flick somewhat similar to movies like Knocked Up or Good luck Chuck. If this sounds like your thing, then I strongly recommend that you see this for a laugh and some enjoyment.
Its a sweet, romantic comedy which is made even better with Johnny Depp. At times it has its weird moments, but that's what makes it unique.
A cute yet quirky movie that is highly enjoyable, a film for everyone..
This is a brilliant film from beginning to end. One of the best psychological thrillers to this day, you won't want to be missing out on this one.
Bill Paxton plays a hardware store manager, Hank, who seems from the outside like a mild-mannered guy who would never do anything wrong or against the law. That all changes from one trip to the cemetery with his brother, Jacob, (Billy Bob Thornton) and their friend. While driving home a fox stays in the middle of the road, causing the three to crash into a tree when avoiding the fox. They bought Jacob's dog with them so before long he chases the fox into the Nature Reserve, so the three follow. They never expected to stumble across 4.4 million dollars from a plane crash when they where there, it leaves them with the decision of whether or not they should hand the money in or keep it for themselves. Hank reluctantly agrees to keep the money safe at his house until they know it's safe to share it between them. They were to move away from town if they ended up keeping the money, otherwise if things were getting suspicious Hank would burn the cash. A simple plan right? You'll have to watch for yourself to see the twists and turns experienced by the characters, as it leaves them wishing they never found the money in the first place.
Bill Paxton was fantastic as the lead role, playing his character extremely well and showing all the emotions you would expect from experiences like that. Billy Bob Thornton was brilliant in every way, playing someone who never really forgot about his childhood. Towards the end his performance became stronger, and it made me realise this movie couldn't have done nearly as well without him.
I'm so happy I watched this, it'll have to be one of my favourites. If you haven't already seen this, I really recommend you see it. One of the best performances from Billy Bob Thornton and a brilliant thriller that is easy to understand and enjoyable!
I prefer the Illusionist to this movie, not that I didn't like this one. It's more predictable than The Illusionist, but the story is still well presented and crafted so that the suspense builds up until the very end when all is revealed. It keeps you guessing about what will happen next, and entertaining to watch the amazing tricks and illusions this movie has to offer.
In this film, two magicians become rivals and attempt to out show the other in their business. They each try to learn from each other and present themselves so that they can be shown as the best performer. We are shown many flashbacks which just add to the suspense of the film and the surprise when what we are trying to discover is revealed.
Towards the end it's a hard decision which of the two magicians is the good one, and who is bad. I get the feeling that both are good as well as evil towards each other, the thoughts still stay with you after the movie finishes. High Jackman and Christian Bale worked perfectly together, and Michael Caine just added to the amazing cast. Scarlett Johansson played her character beautifully and even David Bowie gave it a nice touch.
If you haven't already you really should see this movie, this should not be missed and if you liked The Illusionist then you really should give this one a try. They have a similar story but both have a unique twist at the end.
- "Ever think of killing yourself on purpose like my daddy done?"
- "I studied about it. The Bible says you ought not to. It says if you do that, you go off to Hades. Some folks call it Hell, I call it Hades."
This is without a doubt one of the most original and yet powerful and touching movies I have ever seen. This is true drama with Billy Bob showing his unique acting skills, this is not one to be missed.
Billy Bob Thornton is Karl Childers, a mentally handicapped man who is released from a psychiatric hospital after killing his mother and her lover. At the start of the film Karl is interviewed for the newspaper and we can discover the circumstances of the deaths. Karl decides to go back and settle in his hometown, where he soon meets a young boy who he becomes friends with. It's not long before he meets the boy's mother and her abusive boyfriend, who is cruel to both the boy and the mother. It's written and directed beautifully by Billy Bob, making this moving and touching from the beginning. A truly original story.
Billy Bob Thornton was again amazing, there's no stop to him surprising me with his acting and versatility. It's hard to imagine Karl Childers is actually Bad Santa, and although I love him in comedies he really is just as brilliant in these types of films. Dwight Yoakam also gives a great performance and Lucas Black was brilliant for his part. The emotion and story made this believable and the performances from the actors was terrific. Definitely worth seeing if you haven't already, this is Billy Bob Thornton at his best.
"I always thought it'd be better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody."
This is really amazing drama film, supported by an fantastic cast and story. It's kind of a mystery thriller as well when you think about it.
Matt Damon is Tom Ripley, one of the most complex and mysterious characters I've ever seen Matt play. In this film Mr. Ripley borrows a Princeton jacket, and soon he is talking with the father of a recent graduate from Princeton. He is then asked by the father to travel to Italy to bring his son back. So Tom Ripley goes to Europe and pretends to know Dickie Greenleaf, soon the two become friends. But after some events it's Tom Ripley who goes to extreme lengths to take Dickie's lifestyle and use it for himself.
Matt Damon, like I said before, played a complex character with mystery surrounding him. We see the whole movie through the eyes of Tom Ripley, so this was a very strong character. Matt Damon played him exceptionally well and I just can't imagine another actor as Tom Ripley. Jude Law was brilliant as always, I just wish he was in the movie for longer. Philip Seymour Hoffman was pretty damn good for his role, kind of funny in a way that his character didn't really care for anything or anyone. He was himself and it worked perfectly. I loved Jack Davenport's character, he was a stand out actor for me in this movie.
Really worth seeing if you haven't already. A nice, entertaining and complex film that had my attention from the opening credits to it's mysterious end. A must see.
Sands basically owned this, it wouldn't have been nearly as good without him. But watching it really made me think woah, its actually a great story. The cast was perfect, but how can they say that Salma Hayek was.. well.. the second main character?? Come on, she was hardly in it at all! But not that I care, this movie had it all anyway - and it proves that Johnny Depp is still just as good looking without his eyes.
I absolutely LOVE this movie! It's been a while since I've seen it, but I can remember that it's amazing. Definitely in my favorite movies list! A bit of blood and gore in parts, but i used to love those kind of movies, another great reason for me to love this movie and for you to see it - amazing acting and actors in this movie! This movie really got me into Brad Pitt, and Eric Bana just made it even better! Another great movie with Orlando Bloom - there's no stopping this guy!
This would have to go up there in my 'Funniest films of all time' movie list. Because truly, it is HILLARIOUS! Ben Stiller.. Matt Dillon, Cameron Diaz...... All of them make this movie unforgettable!
This IS entertainment in itself. The one word I can use to describe this film the best is 'entertaining'. And it is, it's up there in the best British comedies and because I can't say I?ve seen many; this along with 'Snatch' are easily my favorites.
I don't think it would be possible to watch this movie and not laugh. There's a joke all the time, some more obvious than others. I have to say that I prefer the movie 'Snatch' to this, just because I seemed to enjoy it a bit more and probably laughed the most I have for ages when I watched it. I think I also liked the selection of actors in 'Snatch', this film sort of introduces some of the characters and 'Snatch' brings in even more.
I loved the directing style; two thumbs way up to Guy Ritchie. The Screenplay was brilliant, I loved how each character had their own story and somehow they all came together. The humor was definitely the type that I like in a film. The little things I noticed really cracked me up, simple stuff like facial expressions were great.
I really liked Jason Statham's character as well as Vinnie Jones. The acting was priceless and the cast were brilliant. It was like they all fitted in perfectly with their character.. like they all had a bit of them in themselves.
My point of this review: for anyone who hasn't already to see this. An explosive comedy that you'll love from the moment it starts until the very end.
"I probably could have saved her if I'd have moved sooner. But I thought it was just another nightmare, like the one I had the night before. There was... there was this guy; he had knives for fingers."
The story of this film is based around a group of teenagers who all begin to have nightmares about the same person (if you can call him that). They work out that this guy, named Fred Krueger, is out to kill them in their sleep. So we get to watch them in a battle to survive, loosing their friends and trying to stay awake for as long as possible.. because whatever they do, they can't fall asleep.
This is a classic horror movie that has produced one of the most iconic horror villains.. Fred Krueger. You will never forget this freaky, grotesque, disturbing, spine-chilling character after you watch A Nightmare On Elm Street. After finishing watching the movie, I saw part of the extras on the DVD and found out a little about how this character came about in the mind of director and writer Wes Craven. Apparently when he was just 7 years or so old, when he was about to go to sleep he saw a man looking out his window straight at him. He wouldn't look away, and turned to go to the entrance of the building. This freaked Wes out, so that was one of the main elements that came to mind with him about Freddy. That and a series of news stories about reports of people dying in their sleep. I think it is genius for him to come out with something original and unique compared to other horror films from that.
I loved seeing Johnny Depp in this, his first film. I bet no one could have picked up that he would be one of the most successful actors of his generation just from this movie, but obviously he got some attention from it and that's how he's got where he is today. Robert Englund was creeeeepy and terrifying as Freddy Krueger. He was just perfect when you think about it, he made Freddy one of the most iconic movie villains of all time. It was vital for Heather Langenkamp to give a good performance to make this movie watchable. She did alright to say the least. The rest of the cast were the sort of people that I wouldn't choose to watch a movie with them starring in again.
This is one of those must-see movies. See it before you die kind of stuff. So, if you haven't, I'm telling you now to go and see it for yourself!
"There is a natural order. The way things are meant to be. An order that says that the good guys always win. That you die when it's your time, or you have it coming. That the ending is always happy, if only for someone else."
This was a really fun, enjoyable and entertaining movie to watch. It had it all - action, comedy, guns and some great actors. My kind of movie. So I knew I would love it, and it impressed me more than I thought it would. It's a kidnapping thriller movie with some comedy thrown in with it. A great mixture of genres together, and it came across exceptionally well.
It's a great plot with something of a twist towards the end. Two criminals (Ryan Phillippe, Benicio Del Toro) kidnap a woman who is being paid to be a surrogate mother by a powerful 'gangster'. When they find out who he is, they demand $15mil for the woman. But things begin to get hectic and chaotic as this leads to gun fights and a struggle to stay alive. New sides are formed and it becomes unclear who the enemies and allies really are, and what they are fighting for.
Ryan Phillippe was brilliant! Although his character as well as Benicio Del Toro's were criminals, they were still like able in the movie. I am beginning to really like Benicio Del Toro in movies like this, he is just incredible! Juliette Lewis is pregnant for most of this flick, but that doesn't stop her from giving a fantastic performance. Taye Diggs was also another great actor in this, as well as appearances from people like Geoffrey Lewis and James Caan. I can give two thumbs up to the whole cast for this!
It really couldn't have been much better, all the gun sequences were brilliant and action-packed. I would put it under action, but this also had quite a lot of funny scenes, I found myself loving the comedy in this just as much as the action. I highly recommend this to anyone who is in the mood for some great entertainment throughout the whole film.
Normally I wouldn't pick up a documentary from the video store, but I had heard some great things about Lost In La Mancha.. oh and of course I have to see every Johnny Depp movie. So knowing that I haven't watched many documentaries, and that the ones I had seen I didn't particularly like, I had some doubts about this. But I found it really, really interesting and entertaining to watch.
It follows the production and making of Terry Gilliam's film 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote'. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong, every disaster that is possible happens, and we get to watch it all. The terrible weather, the actors late arrival, Jean Rochefort becoming ill... it goes on. But this is really enjoyable to watch. Sure, there were some times where I really felt for Terry Gilliam during this unlikely process of making the movie.. but there are things I just had to laugh at and realised it was a disaster, nothing can change that, so you might as well enjoy watching what happened. It's a real shame because with a cast like that and from the footage we see in this documentary, it looks like a great film.
After watching this I had a look at the special features disc, and watched the interview with Johnny Depp. The first thing he said about Gilliam is that he is insane, and I agree with him. Johnny also said, and I agree, that it's a compliment, Terry Gilliam is insane and so wonderful. He has his own vision of how his films should be, and he does all he can to make them appear on the big screen. He must be one of the most unfortunate directors ever, during this documentary we find out his reputation of being 'crazy' and some of the other makings of his movies becoming a bit of a disaster too.
So if you are interested at all in film making and producing, I recommend you see this. Hopefully you will get something out of it as well as watching this entertaining documentary for some fun and entertainment.
