The scenes with brothers Raft and Bogart are nice and I liked how the development of Ann Sheridan as Raft's love interest was handled, but the movie doesn't really take off until Ida Lupino shows up.

Most suitable for high school viewing than any other version out there, which isn't a bad thing, this sort of accessibility to the classics can be a great thing for sparking an interest in the originals. A great little cast too.

This movie REALLY cooks.

The synopsis provided by Flixster is bullshit. From the opening moments as image and "Across 110th Street" fade in, you should know that you're going to see a great movie. Sluggish? No. Overlong? Come ON! Never a big fanatic of Tarantino, but I'll defend this movie 'til my dying day. Also, his BEST use of music. Five stars. Take THAT synopsis-writer.
