Easily one of my newest favorite movies, The Prestige makes The Illusionist look like a nice little film.
Just look at the cast: Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johannson...all great performances. Especially Jackman who is a much better actor than I had thought, what with performances like X-Men and the bland Kate & Leopold.
There's something in the way the story unfolds -- it's like reading a really good book, a page-turner, but in film. There's a comment on the DVD sleeve something to the effect of "Once it's over you want to watch it again>" and it's so true.
Great story, great cast, great acting. Not slow at all. I can;t really think of anything bad to say about it.

Inarotu's direction and storytelling are mezmorizing. The way he effortlessly brings together characters, places, situation, and the way he plays with the viewer's perception of time and sequence of eventsmakes for a great film.
All of the acting, all the way to the minor and extra roles, is top notch. Pitt and Blanchett are of course great, but the one to watch is Rinko Kikuchi, who I believe was robbed at the Oscars, now after watching the film. Her performace as a deaf-mute girl easily shines above the rest.
The use of music in the film is worth noting and it is just another thing that pulls you in.
It's not an exxageration to say that as the credits roled, I was reminded that filmmaking can be an art form.
Mandatory viewing.

If I were bisexual, I'd be all about a Paul Walker/Jessica Alba/me sandwich. Even tho I'm not, I still have a hardon for Jessica Alba ;-) Kinsey rank 5.5 because I demand .5's ;-)

Hands down one of my favorite movies of the 2000s, can;t believe I haven;t rated it before.
Awesome performances by Blanchett and Ribisi.
And the way the movie ends (I won't ruin it), but it's one of tyhose movie moments that stays with you and you remember it long after.
Much overlooked, I suppose, but you MUST check it out.

First of all, I have to say I'm reccomending EVERYONE see this film. Don't let any negative feelings you might have about the actors get in the way or any negative feelings you might have about me get in the way.
This is the kind of film I love because it's stripped down and just about relationships between people. And everyone is somehow connected.
I really don't want to ruin the plot. I think the synopsis here is adequate.
Glenn Close (check The Safety of Objects and Nine Lives), Elizabeth Banks (The Sisters), James Marsden (The 24th Day) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star in a film that is so aptly titled, Heights -- the heights to which some people will go in order to maintain a certain socially-acceptable lifestyle and/or pretenses.
Eloquent, with a simple statement, this is mandatory viewing.

I believe I can say with ease that Notes on a Scandal is my new favorite film.
It was as if I was reading a book... Perhaps because there was so much "narration" from Dench's character...I felt that I knew all the little intimate details that novels provide but are usually left out of films.
Of course the acting was superb. Blanchett and Dench are exceptional and even Andrew Simpson is engaging to some degree.
I'm sure this film has been discussed to death...so I'll just urge you rent it if you haven;t already.
I won't ruin it, but trust me, it's not an exxageration in my opinion to say it's a haunting story.

Pedro Almodovar just continues to amaze me. In my opinion, his films are like a little sweet treat.
The way he deals with characters is truly original in my opinion.
Definitely

Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes another excellent choice is tackling this role. I believe that as an adult he can do no wrong.
Never mind that this is a great film on its own, definitely worth watching just for JG-L's part. And what a transformation in Matthew Goode! I was shocked to see that that was him.
Definitely one of my new favoriate films.

Without a moment's hesitation I can say that this is the best film I've seen in a great while.
It's hugely inspirational in the most genuine of ways.
I don;t want to ruin it, but EVERYONE should see this film.

I just saw this film for the first time. I really didn;t know much about it beforehand, just that I needed to see it.
Is it strange for me to admit that this is now one of my favorite films?
Given the subject matter I wasn't expecting that to be my feeling. But it's just kind of a perfect film. It has everything. And not to sound like a total tool, but I feel like I learned something.
I would reccomend everyone see this.

What works for this film is that the characters are so real. We ALL know people like them. There's not a stitch of pretention or even a remote lack of authenticity. Not to mention that the cast is perfect.
I've always loved Patricia Clarkson, mostly for her ability to do films like The Station Agent so effortlessly. And Bobby Cannavale is perfect as the well meaning but boundariless guy always inviting himself along. Also, Peter Dinklage is perfect. And Michelle Williams.
This is just good acting anf a good story that makes you want to keep watching.
Oh, and unrelated...If Perrz Hilton were to lose weight and become a conserative dwarf, he'd be Peter Dinklage. They totally look alike.
I have to buy this movie!

This is anither documentary that goes along with Zeitgeist which I reviewed a few days ago, and this is another which is MOST DEFINITELY MANDATORY VIEWING,
I know that alot of people will ignore this reccomendation, even tho doing so is not smart.
So, at the very least, go to www.freedomtofascism.com and sign up for the updates and have a look around.
The documentary is about how the war on tyerror is being used as a cover to strip American of their liberties. You NEED to see this.
If you'd like to see it for free, let me know.

This film is something EVERYONE needs to see.
It comes fast in three parts:
1) Reginion
2) Sept. 11
3) Wars from the Rolution to Iraq
Leaving the religious aspect for niow, the more important part of the film as I see it is the assertion that Sept 11 and the destruction of the World Trade Center towers was a conspiracy orchestrated by the American Government in order to manipulate public opinion, And the evidence presented is damn fucking convincing.
You have to understand something... I don;t WANT this to be true. If it is, it's sickening, appauling, frightening... But I believe it is true.
The last part puts forth the idea that several evens throughout American history have been perpitrated by the banking families around the world in order to make more money for themselves, and to generally push their agenda.
The last bit is most frightening of all, and something I'm ashamed I didn;t know. It mentions the North American Union, and something I don;t even want to going right now.
I'm realizing I don;t know as much as I should, I don;t read as much as I should, and I'm going to change.
Anyone who wants to see this documentary for free, let me know on my page and I will tell you how to get access to it.
You MUST see it.
Ah, and the first part about religion, how parts of the Bivle are based on myths, etc., etc. and that certain parts of the Bibble are just fabrications. I think most educated Americans are aware of this.
The interesting part most people probably don;t know is the connection to astrology. VERY interesting

Although I know this isn't the case, it feels like I'm the last person on Earth to see this film. And I'm glad I've finally done it.
Y Tu Mama Tambien seems to start off slow, but it's the kind of film that you just have to watch and it draws you in.
Movies like this are raely, if ever, made in America. And maybe that's because an American director couldn;t pull it off.
Some complain of the "unnecessary" sex, but think on it for a moment. The sex IS nwcessary as a context to the relationship between the Bernal, Luna and Verdu, but rdprcislly the two men.
It's the kind of film that makes you analyze YOUR relationships, so well acted it's as if you're there, and not just watching.
A new favorite, I'd reccomend it to anyone.

Excellent performances from Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser in a film that I couldn't take my eyes off -- I had to know how it ended.
Not much I say negative about this, in fact, I can't think of a single thing. See this if you haven;t already.
And damn, who knew Brendan Fraser was capable of such hotness??! I'm so used to him being the goofy/nerdy/funny guy.
A great film.

Little Children opens with all its main characters living lives they're not exactly happy with, but content maintaining the status quo. Then, for each of them, something happens to wake them up, and they do something either illegal or immoral. As the film nears its close, each character, for better or worse, has a real shot at getting what they think they want, but, confronted with that reality, they each do things to redeem themselves.
Little Children has perfect casting and great acting from Kate Winslet and Patrick Wilson. I thought the narration throughout the film would annoy me, but I gfrew to like it quickly.
Little Children is another example of my favorite kind of film -- one about relationships. Its themes are messy and, at times, uncomfortable, but the film is ultimately gratifying.
The only minus is its legnth, over 2 hours, but that's minor with this film.

Well, I know I'll be the envy of several guys on my list for being the first among us to see this film, and I have to say, dispite a lot of people giving it lukeward reviews, I loved it.
Woody Allen is a different kind of director, and you either love him or you hate him. And, as for the last several of his, I love him.
Let's look at the cast first of all. (Michelle Williams isn't in it, by the way, that's wrong). Ewan McGregor, COLIN FARRELL, Tom Wilkinson, so once you get over the drool factor, there's great acting as well.
And the storyline is very characteristically Allen as well, with the climax right at the end.
Personally, I couldn't take my eyes off it. I feel I need to watch it again when it comes in the theatres around here. Very well done.

August Rush is a delightful film.
Keri Russell is amazingly beautiful with a face that is so expressive and engaging, it pulls you in. This performance, coupled with The Waitress, very well may, and should, catapult her to a stardom that she has provem she deserves.
Freddie Highmore is perfect in this role and, with his role in Finding Neverland, will likely become to male equivalent of Abigail Breslin. For such a young age, he is very controlled and effortless, and expressive, like Russell.
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers delivers a performance I thought him not capable of, one with emotion and likability.
The supporting cast of Robin Williams, Terrence Howard, etc add believable performances.
Yes, August Rush is unrealistic, and slow to start, but we were totally swept up in it. Leaving the theatre, I had a huge smile on my face, ecstatic at the ending.
I recommend this to anyone capable to suspending their disbelief.

It looks like a lot of you have already seen this, but a lot of still want to, and you need to.
Having visited Paris several times, it was nice to see familiar sites on film, but Paris, Je T'aime is so much more than fun.
I was expecting some stinkers, but each vignette is good and enjoyable in its own way. Some funny, some silly, some sad, some just great to watvh.
An insightful concept that is brilliantly executed. Something for everyone.
Don't let anything stop you from seeing this film.
I can't pick a favorite segment.

Amazingly funny in a perfectly witty way that says a big FUCK YOU to political correctness and just has a good time with itself.
Also very shocking at times, and expertly acted by Farrell and Gleeson in a way that pulled us in to their characters so well.
YOU must see this!
I must OWN this!
