Incredibly faithful and gorgeous recreation of the graphic novel that ends up feeling lifeless, frequently dull, and _too_ violent. So well done in many respects, but it will likely only really appeal to hardcore fans of the original graphic novel.
A better remake than expected. I still prefer the 1979 version, but this did a decent job of modernizing the film while still sticking primarily to creepy scares instead of gore scares. Sure, gorier than the original, but not so much that it drove me away from the film, as many of today's torture-porn horror films do.
Classic Americana, a great musical, fun performances, and some wonderful songs ("Trouble" is one of the most well known, but my personal favorite is "The Sadder But Wiser Girl"). This one's become our yearly 4th of July film.
I was really enjoying the neo-zombie schtick until our intrepid band of survivors made it to the mansion with the military boys, at which point it took a sharp turn for the worse. Suddenly it lost the fun zombie thrills and became a depressingly real and violent commentary on human nature, and completely lost my interest. Then, I sat through all that for an ending that wasn't. Pity, as it started so strong, but I just didn't end up liking this one very much.
It's a Kevin Smith romantic comedy starring Seth Rogen, and it's exactly what you'd expect. Rude, crude, and -- if you enjoy Smith's sense of humor -- funny. Plus, more of Jason Mewes than you'd ever thought you'd see...whether that's a recommendation or a warning is entirely up to you.
Dumb. The best thing about this crudfest was one very brief glimpse of Milla's right breast...and as that lasted less than a single second, it's not saying much. Really don't understand how this was successful enough to get not one but _two_ sequels.
My favorite Trek parody, and in some ways, one of my favorite Trek films. This certainly did a better job of capturing the better aspects of the Trek universe than some of the more recent films did!
Worth getting for free, as it does have its occasional worthwhile moments, but overall, it continues the downward slide of the Mummy franchise (the first one is really the only good one). Definitely suffers from recasting the wife, and from the usual over-reliance on questionable CGI. Still, the clay effects for the Emperor were fun, and I must admit to a bit of a soft spot for Frasier's mugging, so it wasn't a total waste of time.
Hilarious. Brad Pitt makes such a great goofball meathead, Malkovich chews the scenery, and everyone in the CIA is gloriously deadpan about everything. My favorite Cohen bros. film after Fargo.
I like Abba, and I like musicals...but I did _not_ like this. Maybe the story was just a little too cutesy for me, maybe it was that there was only one really decent singer in the cast (Sofie, the bride), with the rest ranging from passable (Streep) to outright bad (Brosnan). Whatever the cause, this one just didn't work for me.
