The Shawshank Redemption
R
Simply the best movie I have ever seen. Tim Robbins is superb as Andy Dufresne and his friendship with Red (Morgan Freeman) is rare in the movies because its two male friends who aren't involved in car chases and using the f word every five seconds. Freeman's narration is also superbly executed in the movie, and Bob Gunton is perfect as the warden. The film's one drawback, if it really has one, is what leads to the shot you see on the cover (better not give that away!) - that was a bit silly for me, but only a slight criticism. If you haven't seen this movie, WHY????
2.
Stand by Me
R
A fantastic coming of age film, that never grows old and can be enjoyed by any age group. All four young stars shine with Corey Feldman stealing the show and River Phoenix showing great potential that he sadly couldn't go on to fulfil. Watch out for fantastic early roles for Kiefer Sutherland and John Cusack, who would go on to have a far better career then any of the four main stars. Shame!
3.
The Green Mile
R
Extremely powerful and moving film - if it doesn't touch you, you must have a heart of steel. Its beaten maybe only by Frank Darabont's other masterpiece, 'Shawshank Redemption'.
5.
Air America
R
A lot of favourite movies are fairly serious, but this isn't. Not a great movie in critic's eyes or in the eyes of Gibson or Downey Jr, but I think its the best film either did! Also, the one film that I could recite every word in. Sad, I know!
6.
Million Dollar Baby
PG-13
Simply a brilliant and moving piece of cinema. Eastwood and Freeman are always going to be reliable and turn in remarkable performances and, like with Shawshank Redemption, Freeman offers irresistible narration . Hilary Swank was amazing in it also. Powerful, moving, engrossing and surprisingly funny in places - just as cinema should be with a slight twist to it. Eastwood is leaving his mark as arguably the best director of our time.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
by Antonyon half as good as nr 1. the sense of humour has been lost in all that romance and the effects for me were taken a little too far. the story was ok but the ending for me was weak and disappointing. never mind maybe 3 will be better, im sure there will be a nr3
