Speed Racer (2008, PG)
Cheesy, but I think we all expected that. Still, it had a fun story and visually, it's simply stunning. The digitized world just blew my mind. So many colors, so much movement! All in all, a delightfully dorky movie that's awesome to watch. Definitely worth owning, too, I would say. It's next on my list. |

Watchmen (2009, R)
Let me get my complaints out of the way first: Rorschach's voice wasn't at all what I imagined (but it still worked) and he had a bit too much emotion; Silk Spectre II's costume: umm, "SILK" Spectre, not Latex Spectre, ok? it's like they think women never watch these movies or something; Nite Owl II's snow suit was not undignified enough (if you've read the comic, you know what I mean); they capitalized on the sex scenes too much for my taste or enjoyment; Dr. Manhattan's voice was also way off from what I'd imagined (but it still worked); and my BIGGEST COMPLAINT: that weak-ass "evil plot" they came up with to replace what Ozymandias really does in the comics. LAME! The comic's ending is so great, why would you kick it under the rug for that relatively boring ending? |

I freaking love this movie. The monstrous deformations created by the demon and the girl are just amazing! Especially Pyramid Head, you gotta love him. Apparenty it's not very true to the game, but I've never played the game, so I am conviniently able to enjoy the movie without being annoyed by such things. |

Not to be repetitive, but this miniseries really is quite comparable with Pride & Prejudice (with Colin Firth). They share some qualities, but this one is distinct enough that it doesn't feel too similar to be enjoyable. I really loved it, it was great fun to watch. I'm really a sucker for these period films! Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008, PG-13)
Although I liked the first one, this one was a hell of a lot better. I think it had better graphics, for one. Also, there were a lot more interesting creatures and beasts, which is always fun. Plus, come one, Seth Macfarlane as Krauss is just awesome (not to mention the character himself is quite interesting and amusing). Voice of Krauss = voice of Klaus on American Dad :P |

Wow, I really loved this. King's horror stories have something that most horror movies don't, and this is a very good example of that. Instead of completely focusing on the gore and horror, the film also shows a lot about how people will manipulate the fear of others and use religion to justify horrible things. |

What an absolutely amazing film. I haven't been blown away by a movie in theatres for a long time. Ledger's performance was way beyond what I'd expected, which is a feat in and of itself since I had pretty high expectations. Ledger's Joker was a simply fascinating character, full of quirks and insanities which grip your imagination and keep you wondering what he will do next. He totally stole the show. Besides Ledger, though, there were plenty of other great characters, particularly Bale's Batman & Eckhart's Harvey 'Two-Face,' and I quite liked Oldman's Gordon character as well. (I have to say, though, that although it was nice to see a woman character who didn't have the cliche, typical Hollywood girl look, I didn't care for Gyllenhaal's character; good acting, but the character herself didn't draw much attention from me :/) All in all, stunning, amazing, fabulous movie and a real INSTANT FAVORITE! /end nerd rave |
