Such a disappointing sequel. Retains nearly nothing that made the original great except the first 20 minutes and the music, which even that starts to get old. The moment the kids "sneak" past the guards marks the descent into mediocrity. Seriously, the whole movie is garbage after that moment with totally illogical events happening one after another and shoddy acting. Sorry, I just expect more from the sequel to the greatest horror film since The Silence of the Lambs.

Although I haven't finished the book, from what I've read (which is most of it), it is a fairly close adaptation to it and serves the book justice. I think it gets a little muddled and disoriented throughout the first 2/3 sporadically, but the final third act of the movie more than makes up for it, with a strong performance by Richard Burton and probably John Hurt's best performance, especially during that last act. Sure the ending isn't exactly perfect and some of the appeal of the book is lost along the way as the movie progresses, it's one hell of an experience and definitely one of the better book adaptations I've seen in a while.

One of the most perfectly complete movies ever made.

The King of B-movies and Spielberg's greatest achievement. It's no surprise that this was brought together by both Spielberg and George Lucas, two of the greatest director/writers ever. It doesn't hurt that Harrison Ford is perfect as Indiana Jones either.
