![]() Hello, I am the webmaster of Dr Blood's Video Vault - www.drbloodsvideovault.com - the ultimate guide to the best horror films ever made! Yes, that's right, I'm only interested in the "best" on my own site although sometimes I do stray recklessly into the world of low-budget independents as well. ![]() I also like other genres and have many favourite non-horror films including Truffaut's adventures of Antoine Doinel, James Bond, Michael Caine's "Harry Palmer" series and the ultimate British classic - Quadrophenia. You can see what else I'm into by browsing my lists on here anyway. Apart from watching films, I like listening to eastern European pop music (especially Kraski, Blestyashie, Zhanna Friske, Reflex and t.A.T.u.), eating deadly hot curries, playing computer games and discovering new cheeses. I am also learning Russian and Romanian (to go with the other 5 languages I already know badly!). If you want to know more then look me up on one of the many social networking sites such as MySpace, MyYearbook, YouTube, Live Spaces, AIM, LetsHangOut, UHMN, Yuwie, Tagged or Bebo. Some I use more than others but I decided to join as many as I could. You can never have too many friends, can you? ;o) ![]() ![]() Please do not send me "Widgets" or include me in "Conversations" or you will be blocked and deleted. I have no interest in your glittery kittens or your hoax "He's a hacker, block him" nonsense. I'm only here to talk about films. Also do not keep asking me, "How are you?". I'm very well, thank you, but my health is none of your concern anyway and I'm not going to give you an answer. I will not reply to any messages written in "text speak" either. |

Directed by Timur Bekmambetov of "Night Watch" and "Day Watch" fame, this is the best action film so far this year. Lots of blood in it too.
There are, of course, many similarities to "The Matrix" and even "Shoot 'em Up" but it does its job and certainly kept me interested all the way through. Fans of the original comicbook series may be whining that it isn't 100% faithful but who the hell still reads comics anyway? As a movie in its own right, there's nothing wrong with it at all.
Oh yeah, and it has Konstantin Khabensky (from the Dozor movies) in it too for a while so I recommend it to everybody.
Ignore the plot holes, enjoy the action and marvel at the special effects. This is probably the only film this century (other than "Sin City") which will manage to give you the post-movie buzz which we are forever chasing.
À l'Intérieur (Inside)
Unrated
Well, I've just finished watching this unadulterated piece of crap and feel that's another hour and a quarter of my life which I will never get back. If it hadn't been for the first 30 minutes boring me too rigid to even move, I would certainly not have watched the rest of this film at all.
Not only was it YET ANOTHER HOME INVASION film but it was a poorly done one at that.
If the CGI foetus that kept appearing wasn't enough to put anybody off, the sheer incompetence of the dumbest French flics to ever appear on screen should do... although you have to give them credit for managing to turn up at Vanessa Paradis' sister's house without her even giving them her address on the phone.
Pretty much all credibility and empathy was lost soon after the horrendous "Ghost" moment. Yeah, it just needed Patrick Swayze and a potter's wheel to complete the awfulness of it all.
But it is gory... very, very gory. I wouldn't say that it's the bloodiest film I've ever seen but "gorehounds" will undoubtedly get a kick out of it even if it is all over the top and ludicrous.
It's not scary unless you are pregnant and hormonal, doesn't have much tension or suspense and is really quite inferior to "Ils" which got released in the US last year.
I'm giving it 1 out of 10 just because it was nice to see Betty Blue's Beatrice Dalle in something again. It's just a pity that it didn't live up to the hype that other online reviewers have fallen for. Without Beatrice Dalle it wouldn't have got any points at all.
Dr Blood's Favorite Movies
1.
Day Watch (Dnevnoi Dozor)
R
Great stunts, brilliant use of CGI, and there are even one or two love stories going on amongst all the action. This is simply one of the best films that I have ever seen. Watch out for the very important drop of blood!
2.
Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)
R
Some interesting ideas and very charismatic acting will keep you interested especially as it's a film that you may have to watch more than once to understand everything that is going on.
3.
Them (Ils)
R
The action is real edge-of-your-seat stuff which doesn't let up until the end. Until the final 10 minutes you don't really see or find out who the "them" are. What makes it worse is that it's all very believable!
4.
Salem's Lot
PG
Definitely the best Stephen King miniseries and the most memorable. David Soul does a credible job as Ben Mears, James Mason is also suitably icy as Straker, but not enough is made of Barlow, his Nosferatu-like master.
5.
The Haunting
G
Thought by many to be the best haunted house film ever made, it is sadly becoming quite dated. Great use of sound makes up for never actually seeing the ghost and adds to the dark and uneasy atmosphere.
6.
The Legend of Hell House
PG
Although this is a lot like "The Haunting", it is much more modern and twice as harrowing. Lots of shocks and Gayle Hunnicut being very sexy indeed! The late Roddy McDowall is his usual excellent self.

Primer
by Kropotkin Mouzer I must have seen this about 3 times already and still don't fully understand all the permutations, the overlap of "doubles" etc. The depth of the film is brilliant, I love its sci-fi grounding but realistic technology and implications, time travel on a personal basis.
Made with a budget of $6,000 and is one ofthe smartest time travel films that you will ever see. It does a good job in explaining what is going on in the time travel, and how it works, but it doesn't try and dumb it down so that the user can easily understand it.
Once they start to travel back and forth in time more and more, it becomes more and more confusing what is actually going on, but it still makes sense, you just have to think a lot while watching this film - and that is by no means a bad thing.
Entertainment Weekly | Lisa Schwarzbaum
Consider Primer a successful lab experiment with, as they might say in techie chat rooms, significant indie-cred applications, IMHO. Oh, and :-).While conducting experiments in a garage, two brilliant engineers who lead double lives discover that their project enables them to travel back in time.
Each man's curiosity leads to experiments without the other's knowledge, some with serious consequences.

The Dark Knight
by ~Lissa~So I had planned to see this on my birthday and when I went to buy tickets a week before, I shouldn't have been surprised that it was sold out! I had to see it on Imax, which by the way you should too cause it's awesome! So I had to wait a day later but I will say it again, it was worth the wait!
I definitely think it was in the same realm as Batman Begins, but that movie was just the beginning.
I have to disagree with all the critics that say that the only reason why so many people saw it was because of Heath Ledger's untimely death. Do they not know we have been talking about this movie for over a year now? Don't they know how excited we were with each new poster and how much we died to see a new glimpse of the movie???
The Joker was great! He did an excellent job. Totally different from how Jack Nickleson portrayed him, a lot darker, and that was perfect!
Christian Bale is still my favorite pick for Batman. I have to admit though when I first heard him speak, I giggled. It sounded so funny to how Bruce Wayne talked.
Kudos to Christopher Nolan for doing such a great job and I'm excited to see what happens next.
I heard that Two Face looked horrible but when I saw him for the first time, I loved it! I don't know why but that whole skeleton look really did it for me. I wish we could have seen more.
If you waited and talked about this movie as long as I did, I don't think you will be disappointed. Actually, the only disappointment you'll feel is when Batman is driving away and you realize the movie may be finished. I was disappointed that when me and a few others stayed until the credits were done, there wasn't anything there. Wish someone (and I think he knows who he is) would have written his review already!
So what are you waiting for?! Go see this on Imax!i don't know who, what, where, when the watchmen are, is but the trailer looked cool! :)

Diary of the Dead
by TaniaPretty watchable movie.
And quite easy to review also.
Wanna bet?
- Sudden zombie boom;
- film students catching zombies on camera;
- zombies roaming around all over the place;
- film students running away from zombies while catching them on camera;
- normal people turning into zombies;
- film students witnessing normal people turn into zombies while catching them on camera;
- ...
... And so on and so forth.
It's not a great film, as you may suspect already, but it isn't all that bad either.
The amateur camera work adds a nice touch to it. Makes it feel a little different from other zombie movies and a bit more realistic.
As far as realism can go in this genre, that is.
But, yeah, the directing style helped the rating a great deal. And considering that I only gave it 3 stars... You can imagine how it isn't such a must-see movie.Watch it only if you have a tendency for enjoying movies with an amateur filming style.
If you don't, then there's a pretty good chance you'll hate it.
And if, on top of that, you don't usually tend to care for regular zombie movies all that much either... Then there's a pretty good chance you'll end up slitting your wrists halfway through it.posted 3 days ago -

The Dark Knight
by ShondaOK, ill put my two cent in. First let me say Nolan really did an excellent job of making batman what he really is... a man. If you've seen the movie you know what I mean. This is not the run of the mill comic/superhero film. If your expecting to see good guy vs bad guy, good guy wins you may be in for a few suprises. Even though Ledgers performance was phenomenal, oscar worthy even, I think his death has overshadowed the fact that Bale, Freeman, Oldman, and Caine are in this movie(who in my opinion arent capable of bad performances). Eckhart not to shabby either and they replace Holmes with someone who actually has talent. Long story short without spoiling anything, go check it out if you are one of the 2 people on the planet who hasnt yet.

The Dark Knight
by K JOnce upon a time, Batman Begins was my all time favorite Batman movie. Not anymore... Enter The Dark Knight----PHENOMENAL!!!
It is rare that a much hyped film lives up to or surpasses that hype. TDK more than equals all the hype presented months leading up to its release. With much anticipation and high expectations, this film delivered all I wanted and more.
Plot details are best left for viewing, but if you truly listen to the dialogue in TDK, you will understand that from a comic book genre film, a masterpiece has arisen. Christopher Nolan has perfected the art of putting the comic book on screen. Jonathan Nolan has written a script which knows no boundaries.
Christian Bale is Batman. Bale captures Batman/Bruce Wayne in a way no actor before him ever could. Oldham, Morgan, and Caine reprise their respective roles from Batman Begins and add great flavor to the film. Eckhart shines as Harvey Dent and Gyllenhall is a nice replacement as Rachel Dawes. The chemistry between all the actors help Nolan create a world which works beautifully.
Heath Ledger- the Joker...WOW ... mere words cannot describe what Ledger brought to this character. The level to which Ledger took the Joker is almost incomprehensible. No comparison to those who have played the role before as it would be like comparing apples to oranges. Ledger owns the Joker, and most likely no one will ever take that ownership away. Anyone would be foolish to even attempt. Ledger's performance alone is enough reason for anyone to see this film. Will he receive an Oscar nod? He should for this is one of the most brilliant roles ever portrayed on screen.
The plot, the acting, the directing, and the cinematography are blended seamlessly in TDK. The film is easily the best film of 2008 to date. The action and drama, the darkness of the film itself all make this much, much more than a comic book adaptation. This is the must see film of the decade.Prepare yourself to be blown away.... TDK rises above any which have come before it. (Seeing this in IMAX is magnificent and highly recommended!)

Bonnie and Clyde
by MasaioFaye Dunaway and Warren Beatty give excellent performances as 1930's bank robbers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time.
Hey, you should really see this! Makes me want to get in my car and drive across country robbing gas stations and banks, until the end that is. Anyhow, this is a great movie with an excellent cast-- Faye Dunaway, Warren Beatty, Gene Wilder, Michael J. Pollard, Estelle Warren. They just don't make films like this anymore.

WALL-E
by Kropotkin Mouzer In the 22nd century, the megacorporation Buy n Large assumed every economic service on Earth, including the government. Overrun by un-recycled waste, the planet eventually became so polluted that it could no longer support life. In an attempt to keep humanity alive, Buy n Large sponsored a five-year exodus to outer space aboard hundreds of massive "Executive Starliners", the largest of which is the Axiom. Thousands of adaptable waste management robots known as WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter-Earth-Class) were left behind to clean up the planet. The planet was found too toxic to return to and 700 years later only one WALL-E remains operational. After centuries of living in micro-gravity, the humans aboard the Axiom have lost considerable bone and muscle mass, rendering them too obese and weak to stand or move without robotic assistance, prominently from hovering chairs. Every task is now automated, including piloting the ship.
The sound was done by Ben Burtt whose previous work on Star Wars and ET have cemented his place as an elite sound effects artist. The muisc works perfectly, too.
Photorealism in animation has never been so good looking!
The plot is still a little soft, but a few political messages are thrown in. They have to do with trash, obesity, and screens everywhere. Surely this is the best animated movie I have seen this year (by far), and Pixar's best to date.
Life is nothing but imperfection and the computer likes perfection, so we spent probably 90% of our time putting in all of the imperfections, whether it's in the design of something or just the unconscious stuff. How the camera lens works in [a real] housing is never perfect, and we tried to put those imperfections [into the virtual camera] so that everything looks like you're in familiar [live-action] territory.
Andrew Stanton - Pixar Executive
The New Yorker | David Denby
Apparently, the movie has caused annoyance in some quarters because it criticizes the American way of life. This it does, and with suavity and supreme good humor. WALL-E is a classic, but it will never appeal to people who are happy with art only when it has as little bite as possible.

The Blob (1988)
by CreepGory and action packed remake! A very fun 80's horror/sci-fi film. Good (goofy)acting, well written, great cinematography, faced paced and filled with gooey slime and tons of bloody outrageous moments. This remake destroys the original. The effects here are very well done too, given that this was made in the 80's, and it never gets too cheesy like most horror films of it's time. The best part I have to say, is when the guy gets sucked down the drain alive, literally his whole body down one little drain. Fu**ing classic!
This movie isn't scary, so don't expect any real chills here. It's just a fun, exciting and gory horror film that's not meant to be taken too seriously. I mean come on, how can you take a movie about a killer jello-like substance running amok serious in the first place? You shouldn't. But it's still damn fun as hell and entertaining to watch. I highly recommend this movie if you haven't seen it yet!

Great movie. If you haven't seen it yet(and you're a horror fan) then you definitely should!

Azumi
by CreepAzumi and Versus is why I'm so excited to see The Midnight Meat Train. This director, Ryuhei Kitamura, has a niche for creating some kick ass style in all his movies. Azumi is loaded with tons of cool, well choreographed action. Lots of interesting(and funny) characters. Plenty of drama, lots of humor, and much stylized violence with blood spraying all over the place. This movie is great. And the final battle scene, I must say, is unbelievably breathtaking. It literally sent chills down my spine. This girl kicked some major fu**ing ass!
Azumi was originally given an NC-17 rating, and although it is pretty violent, I believe the NC-17 rating was given for a rape scene that was later cut out. The blood here does flow, but it's not like it's in your face every 5 seconds. I also believe that The Midnight Meat Train is Ryuhei Kitamura's first American made movie. I just hope it's as good as some other pervious horror reviewers make it out to be. I hear The Midnight Meat Train is suppose to be insanely crazy and twisted. Can't wait to see it!
Anyways, I highly recommend Azumi! Get your hands on this movie as soon as you could.

Definitely see this movie!
