very subpar love story with a predictable ending. when i went to see this with my girlfriend...we couldn't wait for this one to be over

Forrest Gump 1. Forrest Gump PG-13 5.0 Stars
a very touching story that also served as a history lesson. also what stuff you can make shrimp out of
Memento 2. Memento R 4.5 Stars
Memento is a thriller for people who are sick of thrillers, a puzzle movie in which the puzzle is actually worth the time and effort to solve. A very interesting story about a man who needs to solve a mystery but the man has amnesia . a must see
Gladiator 3. Gladiator R 4.5 Stars
From the spectacular opening battle scene ... to a final mano-a-mano showdown in the Coliseum, this film is at its best when it's at its bloodiest. a movie every guy should watch. NO EXCEPTIONS
Almost Famous 4. Almost Famous R 4.5 Stars
As a director [Crowe] has an extraordinary gift for drawing out rounded, complex performances even in supporting roles and for indicating the fine emotional shadings in the relationships among his characters. You don't just watch Almost Famous, you listen to it. You groove on it. oh yeah it also made the song Tiny Dancer cool again.
We Were Soldiers 5. We Were Soldiers R 4.5 Stars
the ending was classic how they fought for each other in a war that nobody knew what the meaning of was. While some will object to the idea of a Vietnam picture with such a rah-rah, patriotic tone, Soldiers ultimately achieves its main strategic objective: dramatizing the human cost of the conflict that came to define a generation.
Fight Club 6. Fight Club R 5.0 Stars
Simply rough and thick! Even though it loses punch during its extended running time it is still a vibrant contribution to the film world. Fight Club is not a glorification of violence. It is a deconstruction.

    Babylon A.D. Babylon A.D.

Save the planet. Whenever I've read that bumper sticker I've had to laugh. Save the planet. What for? And from what? From ourselves? Life's simple: kill or be killed, don't get involved and always finish the job. A survivor's code, my code, and it all sounds great until the day you find yourself confronted by a choice. A choice to make a difference, to help someone, or to walk away and save yourself. I learned something that day: you can't always walk away. Too bad it was the day I died.

I'm usually not much for bashing a bad movie but here goes.

Take Mad Max, Jhonny Mnemonic, The Fifth Element, Children of Men, xXx, Pitch Black and Blade Runner. Mix well, then dumb it down a few nudges and you'll get Babylon A.D.

The movie started out well but it's like they ran out of steam the closer they got to the end/anticlimax. It's based on a book, so you might want to look that one up later, the story has a lot of potential and it might have become a nice cross between Children of Men and Blade Runner in the right hands. The script is quite inconsistent and the production itself feels like it should have been handled by someone else.

Vin Diesel does his standard anti-hero performance as seen in many of his other films with perhaps a slightly darker tone this time.

Did Milla Jovovich turn down the supporting role so they had to use a girl who looks just like her? Or is she simply getting too old? Aurora is almost as inconsistent as the script, being an enhanced human being with the ability to process information like a computer she is really good at running off doing stupid, completely incoherent things, and being a whiney crybaby in general.

Props to Gerard Depardieu who makes a brief appearance as a slimy russian mobster, I'm not saying he does the part well, it's more like comic relief. Sepultura makes a welcome appearance on the soundtrack during a cage fight scene, that's always nice.

On a final note; the Neolite leader might end up on a future "badly portrayed movie villains" list from me.

Why the two star rating? I like dystopian movies and it's not so bad if you're prepared for it.
Hey there, you should probably avoid this.

If you must see it - be prepared for some bad acting, poor character development and a script that is paper thin.

This one has great potential. WETA Workshop is working on the visual effects.

This is more of a "heads up" than an actual recommendation.

I learned today that a live action version of the anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion" is in the making. I'm no fan of mainstream anime in any way, but NGE caught my eyes a few years back (it also has a very catchy opening song).

WETA Workshop (LotR, Narnia, etc.) will do the digital effects, which in my ears sounds very promising.
