Modern Times (1936,  Unrated)
Modern Times
What's so great about this film, is that its able to make an artistic statement, without leaning too much politicaly towards one wing of the other, satirizing both left wing and right wing politcs of the day.

beautiful sets, beautiful costumes, beautiful score, this one's a classic for all times
10
Pi (1998,  R)
Pi
my all time favorite film, detailing the descent into madness and paranoia that can come from obcession with order and perfection, combined with cripiling lonliness. The soundtrack and the black+white shots only heighten the mood of tension, and in the end, realizes if the cost of absolute knowledge is truely worth the price

One of the great films of all time, and by far the best of the series
61
Falling Down (1993,  R)
Falling Down
a bitter misanthropic film for bitter misanthropic people... in the hands of a better director, this could have been a flawless classic, but even with Schumaker behind the camera, it still remains a challenging and thought-provoking film with great themes, and challenging notions of social decay, personal bitterness, and the struggle to find order in a dark world without going dark yourself
62
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005,  PG)
63
Batman: The Movie (1966,  PG)
64
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
one best film of 2007 so far. its beautiful... the only real complaint I would have, is that we dont really understand the motives of the "heros" or "villains"... yes, they have choices and no choices, but I failed to understand extactly what they were fighting for, or why... then again, I dont have many cultural ties to spain, so Im sure Im missing out there. but when viewed as a fairy tale with classic themes in a specific context (wicked step-father, temptation, happy endings, etc), its a triumph. as a political moral tale, not so much.
65
Dirty Work (1998,  PG-13)
Dirty Work
one of the most laugh-out-loud halarious films Ive ever seen... filled with such bad jokes, but the delivery is PERFECT.
66
Shadow of the Vampire (2000,  R)
67
Batman Begins (2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
this film prooves that Christopher Nolan can take a formulatic summer blockbuster, work within the hollywood system, and still be able to produce a work of art with its own rhythem and poetry to it. Yes, there are some silly capricious hollywood-isms in the film, and yes, Katie Holmes does distract a bit, but in the end, its still remains a work of beuty, with occaisional fun silliness. And only gives just a taste of where it leads to with the dark knight, with this being the brighter (what with all the warm yellow filters) and more fun/optimistic flipside to the disturbing brutality of dark knight
68
A Day at the Races (1937,  Unrated)
69
Shaun of the Dead (2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
one of the funniest films Ive ever seen, with added emotional and character depth to set apart from the average parody genre
70
Ministry: Tapes of Wrath (2000,  Unrated)
Ministry: Tapes of Wrath
a great and COMPELTE collection of ministry videos to date (which is becoming a rarity these days in music video collections)- an essential for any Ministry fan
71
Any Given Sunday (1999,  R)
Any Given Sunday
Oliver Stone's last good film... this one gave me a greater respect for the sport
72
U Turn (1997,  R)
U Turn
Olver Stone does comedy... with disturbing results... definity has a few good laughs... but the humer is just too dark and disturbing to be called a true comedy, and too light to be called a true thriller... truely a nightmare, but an enjoyable nightmare... just thank providence that you're not in their shoes
73
Nixon (1995,  R)
74
Born on the Fourth of July (1989,  R)
75
Song of the South (1946,  G)
Song of the South
nowhere near as racist as them P.C. obcessed white folks in suits at disney think it is... its still a charming tale about antebellum southern folklore, with a good message of harmony at the end... also a breakthrough in animation as being one of the first films to combine live action and animation, and has great performances by the cast... granted, it does somewhat romantisize rural southern jim crow life, but nowhere in the movie is anyone talked down to or disrespected based on race. The characters are portrayed as someone multidimensional (or at least as dimensional as a walt disney kids flik can get), and at the end, the white kid and the black kid are smiling, holding hands, and singing along.... and that's what's important.
76
American Dreamz (2006,  PG-13)
American Dreamz
one of the most clever and biting satires Ive ever seen... truely, A film for its times with a good message without being too heavy handed or preachy
77
Gummo (1997,  R)
Gummo
frighteningly real in its depiction of white trash life in a white trash town. The scariest bit of all, is that people like those in the movie DO exist
78
The Phantom of the Opera (1925,  Unrated)
The Phantom of the Opera
a masterpiece... best seen with live accompaning organ.... this is as good as film horror gets
79
Batman - Return to the Batcave (2005,  Unrated)

81
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
this sets the bar for sci-fi thrillers... truely ahead of its time
82
M (1931,  Unrated)
M
truely, a haunting masterpiece, wonderfuly demonstrating the private madness and public paranoia of murder in a city
83
Nine Inch Nails: Closure (1997,  R)
Nine Inch Nails: Closure
this one sets the bar in music video compliations and concert films, flawless blending backstage behind the scenes documentry with live performances
84
Blue Velvet (1986,  R)
Blue Velvet
this is one of those few films I can watch over and over again, and take something new from it- Things that are tremendously beautiful, can be just as vile and dark once the lights go out. Childish naivety can quickly melt away in the face of cold reality, and In every shiney happy town, there are bugs in the grass, but there are birds, to eat those bugs. The sun rises, sets, and rises again. And there are happy endings in the darkest of times
85
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
dark, gripping, intense, disturbing, brutal. This is a film that stays with you long after its over, and is truely horrific and unsettling. Ledger gives an absolutly memorable and unforgettable performance. Quite possibly one of the best films Ive seen this DECADE.
