Poor Tommy Lee Jones. It seems like every movie from the late 90's has him playing the same role -- persuing an escaped criminal who is trying to prove their innocence (or prove something else). Double Jeopardy follows the same somewhat predictable formula. The pacing started off a little slow, but started to pick up about 20 minutes in. The payoff was a little too perfect, and not quite on the same level as some of the other Tommy Lee Jones movies of the same time. |

Much better than expected, but since it was by the guy who did The Professional, shouldn't have expected any less. I love how although it was almost entirely action, there's a decent storyline going, and real relationships between the characters. One welcomed difference between this and other movies was how it left some things up to the viewer to figure out. We don't need to see the main character doing mundane things just to setup later scenes -- just do the later scenes and we can fill in the gaps. This happened a number of times in the movie, and for each I wondered why more movies don't do it this way. We don't need every end neatly tied up. Liam Neeson does a great job as a dad and an action hero in this one, driving a scary seemingly out of control action train. |
