| Coraline - PG | Coraline is such a creative little film; creativity oozing out of every corner of the film; as creatvie as it is vibrant voiced with perfection and directed with intricate detail; Coraline is far more than just a childs film; as an adult I rank this very highly; it has enjoyable aspects for both and is quite a creepy little film - especially with it primarily targeted to and aimed at children I'm surpised at how creepy this film was. Such a fun, enjoyable film for an audience of any age. | December 21, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Avatar - PG-13 |
Hands down the most visually stunning film I have ever seen. The worlds of Pandora completely come to life in a way you have to see to believe; the CGI is such a work of art that the two universes never collide on an artistic scale the seamless flow from the real world through to the more animated pandora is seamless and an absolute credit to James Cameron who has once again been able to revolutionise Hollywood blockbusters.
I could have very easily given Avatar 5 stars on a pure enjoyment level; the film is fun; though where it gets let down is in the script; the plot whilst interesting and could be handled with so much more class is highly cliched; the love story has been seen; if not already in James Cameron's last blockbuster Titanic; but that can be overlooked because whilst it has these flaws it is still a very enjoyable film; a very beautiful looking film. I had the chance to see it in IMAX 3D and that is clearly how the film was designed to be seen. It looked absolutely incredible. Vibrant and immersive; I will be seeing this again in a regular 2D cinema to see how it transfers; but I fail to see how it could be any less enjoyable without the 3D integration. |

| Where the Wild Things Are - PG |
A sensational film, warm, charming, funny and sad. The best kids film for adults possibly ever! Perfectly help together by Max Records as the young lead.
The film requires some imagination and leaves it open to the viewers own interpretation never delving too far into the meaning behind what is happening onscreen but leaving subtle hints along the way. Directed with ease by Spike Jonze in what is a transition from his usual style and complemented perfectly by Karen O who voiced majority of the soundtrack. |

| Noel - PG | I neither loved nor hated this film; I'm quite impartial to it; it entertained but still not really sure on what level; it didn't provoke much thought from me; was a bit too sentimentel; sometimes a little too over acted and played out like a midday movie - judging it on the merits of a midday movie; it was one of the better ones; a film to provoke the christmas spirit? No. | December 9, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Confessions of a Shopaholic - PG | Whilst the film no doubt has numerous flaws; one dimensional characters; stero-typical rom-com cliches. Confessions of a shopaholic isn't a chore to watch; Isla Fischer is sensational with a poorly written script and a badly drawn character which is a credit to her abilities; the film isn't boring and plots along nicely though its far too cliched; there is not any more than 2 or 3 chuckles and plays on what works too often. The film is a disappointment considering director P.J. Hogan delivered one of the greatest Australian Films in Muriels Wedding and a brilliantly constructed Rom-com in My Best Friends Wedding. His expertise in the genre is most definately not displayed here. A watchable entry into the genre and far from the worst but don't get in their expecting anything special; or much related to being a shopaholic; its more about finding the love and fudging your way through a job to get to the top than being a shopaholic. | December 8, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Bedtime Stories - PG | For a film aimed at kids; it does its job. It is funny and the cast is fantastic all playing their parts well; strange to see Russell Brand in a Disney kids film but it suprisingly works; maybe he's there just for the adults to laugh at the irony of him being cast in such a film. Bedtime stories isn't horrible and the story moves along swiftly and enjoyably never leaving the audience endure a lagging scene; but for a film about dreams coming to life I quite honestly thought it would've been much more creative; whilst its obvious they stuck to believable scenerios that played out in real life; but for me I would've much rathered complete over the top imaginitive fun. The film is not a let down; but rather not what I would like it to be. | December 6, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - PG-13 |
A funny and 100% charming film set in the greatest city in the world.
Quite typical Michael Cera fare; who needs to start changing up the roles he plays as he has already been typecast. Nick and Norah is unashamedly amatuerish, cliched but it is a hell of a fun film to watch. |

| Lesbian Vampire Killers - R | Absolute crap. Lets hope a sequel does not get made. | December 4, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Surrogates - PG-13 | Surrogates is a pretty stupid movie. It presents some nice ideas for a sci-fi film but fails to go in depth into reasonings behind the use of the surrogates and why events in the film are taking place. Its convoluted and shaky and definately not the Bruce Willis Action film fans would be looking for. | December 4, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Samson and Delilah - Unrated |
A harrowing and disturbingly realistic portrayl of the indigenous communities in remote communities. Samson and Delilah is a love story expressed with a lack of dialouge; for the most part this works well; but there are a few scenes that you feel the need for something to be said yet it just sits there stagnant. Especially some of the earlier scenes with Samson trying to "win over" Delilah the awkward interaction between the two is quite odd to watch when nothing is being said.
That said it is quite a powerful film and is well worth checking out. |

| The Fountain - PG-13 |
The Fountain is an extremely beautiful looking film; the visual representation is astounding; but the storyline is quite a muddled up adventure; after becoming lost by the end of the film I decided to go and read up on the net, reading a quote from the director it stated that the film really didn't have a story structure; so I took from that what I wanted and developed the story as best I could in my mind :P The main plot revolves around present day America where Tommy is trying to find a cure for his dying wife who is suffering with cancer.
The films timeline spans from the 16th Century where Tommy's character is on the search for the fountain of youth; these experiements span thousands of years and culminate in a series of images that still don't make all the much sense. A tad pretentious.... |

| Moon - R | A rather subdued and slow paced film; held together perfectly by Sam Rockwell; and at only 90 mins the film hold your attention; creating a perfect atmosphere the fact this film was made on only $5 million is a major credit to all involved; at times the film seems overly convoluted; but is actually quite an easy film to follow when you strip it down to the basics. | November 15, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Final Destination - R | In the same vein as the previous 3 films Final Destination 4 has inventive deaths and adds the "in thing" right now by incorporating 3-D which looks pretty cool; I haven't seen to many live action 3-D films but this one looks decent. Like a B-grade horror movie the acting is not anything special and like the others Death always wins; but its fun watching its victims try. | November 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| 2012 - PG-13 |
The years greatest comedy; unintentionally or not. If there is one thing Roland Emmerich knows how to do; its how to destroy the world and 2012 is a culmination of all his films; its the mother ship he's obviously been dying to make. With dialouge chocked full of cheese, action scenes which are pure spectacle and physics that is unbelievable that it become laughable. Whilst 2012 sticks to delivering its story and dialouge with a straight face the audience; or those that know better are sitting back laughing.
2012 is The Day After Tomorrow on a much bigger scale; unfortunately crappy dialouge and crazy plot lines aside 2012 is way, way to long to actually enjoy on a popcorn level. Everybody knows what they're walking into when they see a movie like this; especially one that comes from Roland Emmerich but when you need to sit through such drivel for close to 3 hours it becomes far to antagonising |

| The Proposal - PG-13 | A rather cliche romantic comedy the bares enough charm between the two leads to make this one enjoyable enough to watch; if only it stuck to what it knew in the first half of the film for the ending all would be better. Sit down to watch this expecting the cliches and you won't have a problem with this film. | November 13, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Zombieland - R | Clocking in at a mere 81 minutes; this film moves fast; and is a real fun romp; what Zombie movie isn't right? With a perfect balance of horror shitick and genuine comedy Zombieland proves to be what slapstick zombie films like Shaun of The Dead is not. Stand out performance by Woody Harrelson and a nothing short of brilliant cameo by Bill Murray. I would highly HIGHLY recommend Zombieland to anyone looking for a fun film; zombie fan or not. | November 6, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Michael Jackson's This Is It - PG | A rare glimpse into the genius of Michael Jackson, an inside look to the workings of one of the greatest musicians of all time. Insightful a wonderful watch. | November 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Paranormal Activity - R | Uh its always a bad thing when you listen to the hype. Scariest Movie of all time? No, not even close I've seen scarier movies this year (Drag Me To Hell) whilst Paranorml Activity isn't a bad film it treads water for 85 minuntes doing really well nothing; I wasn't scared and I wanted to be terrified from what I had heard the film was all about. But on a budget of only $15,000 kudos goes to the crew behind Paranormal Activity in being able to create a tense atmosphere with some genuinely creepy and eerie moments without relying on special effects. | October 31, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Year of the Dog - PG-13 | A quirky and charming film for the first 30 minutes in which we see Peggy only feeling loved by her Dog pencil, but when pencil dies it sends her loopy and I kinda just lost where the story was going. Would've been better had it stuck to your usual rom com and Peggy finding love after Pencil; oh and its really slow considering it clocks in just under 90 minutes you think it would be an easy watch but it feels like it goes for 2 hours. | October 31, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Leatherheads - PG-13 | A movie I found unromantic and not overly funny; it had a few giggles but nothing more. The first 45 minutes was actually quite entertaining and then it all just lost its way. The 3 leads are good in their roles though. | October 31, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Animal - PG-13 | A pretty horrible movie with next to no redeeming qualities; it's everything you'd expect from a Rob Schneider movie....and no I didn't sit down with expectations to love this movie :P | October 18, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Couples Retreat - PG-13 | With such a great cast behind it, its a shame this couldn't get off the ground; 3 of my favourite comedic actors; Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and Jon Favreau are such a let down and don't nearly provide the comedy I was expecting, I didn't even go into the film listening to what the critics had said; I thought "critics just don't enjoy these types of films" so I went anyway, and was disappointed. Whilst the film isn't horrible and is quite watchable, as a comedy starring some of the funniest working in the business at the moment the laughs were few and far between with parts where I dosed off into boredom at times staring at the lights on the floor of the cinema stairwell. Not "shocking" but too much room for improvement to be good. | October 18, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Gran Torino - R | What a fantastic film! From start to end Clint Eastwood is a facscinating character to watch; his personal turmoils unfold as he comes to realise just what the world has become; a story right from the heart which deals heavily with racism and old fashioned values; brilliant! If anything only the first half hour is a little slow pace but by the end you really appreciate the character development. | October 11, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Alien Resurrection - R | After hearing nothing but negativity regarding Alien Resurrection I sat down with a negative attitude and while clearly the movie is not on a scale anywhre near the first two films, In my opinion it explored something more interesting than Number 3 which kinda just sat around doing nothing for 100 minutes. If you can let your mind run free and get over some of the insanely ridiculous plot points I'm sure you'll be able to have fun with this film for what it is; sure the franchise diminished but at least you can still have some B Grade sci-i/action/horror fun. | October 10, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Whip It - PG-13 | A funny, warm and inviting movie about growing up and finding yourself. Whip It is fantastic from the casting to the soundtrack, Ellen Page is perfect yet again but one must be worried about her being typecast in this sort of role; but she plays it so effortlessly and with cool sophistication. A rocking movie that will surely leave a smile on your face. | October 9, 2009 | N/A |
