Waited what seems like forever for this to come out...and boy was it worth it!! Having now seen it twice, I can't get the music and memorable lines "at last my arm is complete again" out of my head!! Now....who's for a shave?

I finally got to see this the other day, having wanted to since it came out.
I thought it was brilliant! Clever plot that makes you go "oh so that's why" quite a lot! all becomes clear in the end though which I liked. Great casting, the first time I've seen Jim Carrey in a serious role, thought he did a marvellous job, really believable as introverted "my life's not that interesting" Joel. Also great turn by Kate Winslet with an effortless American accent, as the scatty and ever-unpredictable Clementine...no amount of cheap hair dye can make that woman look any less stunning either! Loved Elijah Wood and Mark Ruffalo's appearances too. Altogether worth watching and was not disappointing considering the hype surrounding it when it was released.

I watched this having just finished reading the book. I absolutely loved the book and couldn't wait to see how they had adapted it for the screen. I even watched a King interview on the DVD, where he says how good the movie is..so it was with anticipation that i pressed play...
How disappointed I was! I kept thinking certain things weren't right at the beginning..but I thought ok they have to cut stuff out to fit it all into such a short space of time...but cutting out stuff that is INTRINSIC to the story....not good. The gore factor was good, the "shit-weasels" were how I imagined them to be but the rest was a thumbs down I'm afraid. There was no proper exploration of the psychic link and Duddits' role and the Jonesy/Mr. Gray thing..what the hell? Why did he have an English toff accent? I thought their conversations should have been internal and that Mr. Gray would have a more..otherworldly voice. But there you go. I thought Duds should have been played by a down's actor, that the ending should be what's in the book (along with a lot of other things!) Morgan Freeman wasn't right for Kurtz or Curtis as they changed it..he wasn't ruthless enough. There was no explanation as to why Underhill pissed him off...even the frigging dog was the wrong species!! Needless to say = read the book, it's perfect. |

![]() Flixster - Share Movies This is more like it! The best disney/pixar collaboration since monsters inc. in my opinion. The lovable Remy the rat is a great central character, who wows with his knowledge of food and cooking and is so adorable..kids will love him! ![]() Flixster - Share Movies Also, the clumsy, awkward Linguini, whom Remy helps to move up the pecking order in the kitchen of world famous chef, Gusteau. ![]() Flixster - Share Movies Some really great comedy moments, plenty that goes over the heads of the kids in the audience too! Brilliant sinister character in the form of Peter O'Toole: ![]() Flixster - Share Movies and the annoying villain of Skinner. ![]() Flixster - Share Movies I think there's something for everyone here, it's one of those movies to watch on a rainy day, tucked up under a quilt with a bar of chocolate! |
