1
The Matrix (1999,  R)
The Matrix
When this first came out it wowed me as it did with many others. The special effects and the unique story line made the movie punchy with an underground feel to it. The actors and characters were very well chosen and the plot developed easily without too many leaps to overcome. Was very easy to get caught up in the movie.
2
Contact (1997,  PG)
Contact
One of my favourite movies of the 90's it has it all. Good character development an fascinating story, ups downs and the thrill of discovery. Jodie Foster really makes you feel every emotion from pain, loss and disappointment to exhilaration and wonder. Breathtaking as used in the description is a very accurate description of what this movie was like for me. Will remain one of my favourites of all time.
3
Braveheart (1995,  R)
Braveheart
One of the greats! I can't give this movie enough stars. It captivates you and engages you within the life of William Wallace. Makes you fall in love, hate and lust for battle along side him and his mates. A very powerful movie that deserves at least a few words be put to"" paper. Great characters and character development,

Intensely emotional movie. If you hide a true romantic within you see this movie and jus tbe prepared for some serious ups and downs. One of the best dramas I have ever seen.
19
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring
As a fantasy novel addict as a child this movie is right up my alley. To add to this Jackson did EVERYTHING right in this movie from my perspective. Purists may disagree that he nailed this movie because of changes to details and plot points, but they are missing the overall power and impact this movie makes on you if you just let yourself be enveloped by the movie. Believe the hype, see this movie and you'll remember it forever.
20
Mystic River (2003,  R)
Mystic River
Excellent movie. Sean Penn was quite impressive and imposing in his role. Excellent job by all actors involved. Not a weak performance by anybody.
21
Tombstone (1993,  R)
Tombstone
One of my favourite shoot'em ups/"" westerns of all time! Great mixture of drama, action, and comedy. I could simply do without Dana Delany... she was a waste of space in this movie. Unfortunately she was a main character.

24
The Boondock Saints (1999,  R)
The Boondock Saints
Loved this movie. It was hilarious as well as action packed and not completely devoid of substance. Great cult classic if I have ever seen one. Just watch out for those flying toilets...
25
X-Men (2000,  PG-13)
X-Men
Please Note: I am biase on this one. ;) Grew up on the X-maen as many of us did adn I Think they nailed most if not all of the characters in this movie and in the trilogy. One of the best set of comic book heroes movies that will likely ever be made.

Any Given Sunday

32
Poolhall Junkies (2002,  R)
Poolhall Junkies
Great movie, to then be followed by the Hustler... Ok, well The Hustler is the classic and pinnacle of the genre, but if you watch one you gotta watch the other.

Ok, it is a 'B' movie for sure, considered 'Indie' by some and just plain bad by others. But it had a great rhythm and vibe to it. I personally thought it was allot of fun.
33
Juno (2007,  PG-13)
Juno
Excellent!!! Hilarious. A true gem.
34
Pump up the Volume (1990,  R)
Pump up the Volume
Maybe it says alot about me or my/our experiences from high school but this still remains one of my absolute favourite movies from the early 90s.

Then there is the almost animal hunting scene with the two main characters are circling each other after their first encounter and you sit there saying... kiss her you idiot. This movie just epitomizes the teen angst many or most of us felt when young.

Talk hard Harry. You too eat me beat me lady.
35
Stephen King's The Stand (,  Unrated)

37
Roxanne (1987,  PG)
Roxanne
One of my favourite 80's comedies. May not quite deserve the extra 1/2 star but I am taking liberty with tis as I could watch this over and over. The tennis scene at the beginning... LMFAO!
