La Cité des Enfants Perdus (The City of Lost Children)
R
I've wanted to watch this film for along time, and over easter I finally got the opportunity to see it.
Although this film is in French, it is pretty well dubbed in english. The whole film is incredible. I loved every little detail in the scenery and the actors were brilliant.
Again this film was quite weird, but I love that sort of thing. Anyway in this small town, ever so often children are stolen. Thoses that aren't stolen are clever enough to stay in hiding.
So when a circus arrives, a child goes missing, and a strong man looses his little brother and goes off in search to find him. It's great.
Night at the Museum
PG
I was interested to see this film although it had been slated here.
Ben Stiller plays a father who needs to find a secure job in order to form a proper relationship bond with his son. So he goes to work in this museum. It's a brilliant story, although I felt things were running too quickly - I felt it was rushed all the way through. There is a twist in the ending and I really like that in a film.
Britannia Hospital
R
This is a mixture of comedy and pure horror/shock. Basically there have been questions asked on how well the hospital is running and we follow a reporter going under cover, into how the hospital is run. However, things begin to turn sour in the end...
It's good to watch and there are some very sick and funny moments. There are alot of famous actors/actresses too!
MirrorMask
PG
I watched this film, via a recommendation of one of my friends. It starts with a young girl who is fed up of living and working with a travelling circus. Through her drawings we are then taken on a journey with her, so she can work out the things that are trully important to her.
This is quite a strange film, but if you can bear with it, you will soon feel as if you are in the drawings right with the girl.
I liked it in the end, although it is quite a bizarre film!!!

Man of the Year
by scottwilliams plays a tv talk show host, very similer to jon stewert, who after bringing up, maybe i should run for president,,, he does, he secures his nomination and goes to work, using his razor sharpe wit to woo the tv audiance and anyone who will listen, but the new polling booth computer voting system is faulty and maybe rigged, so if he wins and ecomes president is it a genuin win, a worker for that company speaks out, and her life is targeted for ruin, wyes this oviously is based on events in u.s when bush came from nowhere and won, as some say due to balled voting fixing, so a interesting concept, williams is great also, doing some great scenes of stand up, to get him self noticed, williams does this perfectly, and is a joy to watch, its never clear wether he will win and take up office, as story is told well and not predictable, and final outcome may be a little mushy for some, but it gets its message across well, a relevent for whats happend in recent past, and great to see williamsfinding great roles again

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
by ChuckMuch better than I expected it to be...actually enjoyed it more than the first one! In this one, the kids are summoned back to Narnia - inadvertantly - and discover 1300 years have passed since their last visit and reign as kings and queens of the land. Now Narnia has been decimated by war and the citizens of the land are believed to be extinct. Prince Caspian finds himself on the run from his uncle, who believes his newborn son is the rightful heir to Caspian's throne. When he comes across some real, live Narnians and the legendary rulers of the land, he joins forces with them to overthrow his tryannical uncle and restore the land to its rightful residents. PRINCE CASPIAN is a bit darker in tone than the first film, and is also more violent. I certainly wouldn't recommend taking small children to this one. The talking animals are kept to a minimum, and don't expect to see much of Aslan either (even though he his featured prominently on the poster). Also MIA but for one small but terrific scene is Tilda Swinton's White Witch. The film is full og terrific performances and the film benefits greatly from a largely unknown cast. If a "star" had played Caspian, you would have been too distracted by the actor and not be invested in the character's fate. The special effects are truly spectacular with the blending of live action and animal characters, and the battlefield scenes - while overly familiar by this time - still pack a wallop (though the castle siege is pretty amazing and emotionally upsetting). A very, very good follow-up to THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. Not as cutesy, more depth, more action, more emotion and really light on the religious overtones.
Hey, you should really see this, especially if you liked THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.

Atonement
by GaryAfter hearing a few less than glowing reviews I was a bit jubious about this one, but it turned out to be pretty beautiful. An epic love story with some beautiful cinematography and solid acting throughout. Tragic and endearing in a very British way. Perhaps overrated and the sneaky ending was a very dirty trick, but the hopeless romantic in me saw past all that. And the Dunkirk scene.... WOW! Briony truly deserves to be one of the most hated characters in recent movie history. Wish I'd read the book first.
The Oscar contender that couldn't is actually a pretty amazing little British film that turns ageing romantics like me to mush.
More hardened viewers may find themselves looking at their watches alot.... Up to you!posted 4 days ago -

The Free Will (Der Freie Wille)
by CeciliaIs there such a thing as free will? And if so: how far does it reach? Are we really able to forgive? Ourselves? Others? This film is one of the most serious striving for humanity and desperate search of meaning in this deep dark loneliness in our unspeakable grim society I´ve ever stumbled upon. It left me, with so many thoughts of what really should be done with this lifetime. Even if the film mostly is about the individual destruction and the collectives lack of mercy the story shows that real beauty exist but that it is so vulnerable one can hardly speak about it. The german director Matthias Glasners fourth feature film is a 160 minutes exceptionally intense, sad and brutal naturalistic report on human life, a naked portrait of perpetrators and victims and the very thin line in between. The film holds some of the most devout feelings I´ve ever watched on screen. The main actors Jürgen Vogel and Sabine Timoteo gets just as close to their characters Theo and Nettie as I think is possible.
Prepare for harsh and brutal german naturalism filmed with a dv-camera. Some of you may even shed a river of tears. And some will surely get provoked. No one will be left indifferent...

Scarface
by CeciliaThis may be one of the most overrated films I´ve ever seen. I can´t at all understand why Tony Montana has made such an impression on filmbuffs all over the world. Made in the beginning of the 80´s one can state that time hasn´t been too kind to this piece. Of course Al Pacino is truly impressive but most of the other actors are really bland, and the pushy soundtrack is beyond horrible. However there is an extremely amazing camera shoot from a hotelroom, where a bloody homicide takes place, out over a sunny and glossy Miami beach street which is quite unforgettable. But all in all there is at least three films in this genre that does a better job on the whole that I will recommend: the forerunner Taxidriver (1976) and the succesors Goodfellas (1990) and American Gangster (2007).
Al Pacino makes this one to what it has been considered to be over the years: a bit too praised, I think.

27 Dresses
by GaryCheesy, girly and very sickly sweet. As romantic comedies go, it's nothing special and seems to drag a bit at times. The laughs are scarce and while there are lots of beautiful people to look at, it never truly engaged me (no pun intended). Heigl is gorgeous and really does show some glimmers of a natural, fresh and thoroughly delightful comedic talent. And even she couldn't stop me feeling ever so slightly nauseous throughout. So cute and fluffy, it was bound to be less than substantial. Absolute chick flick and guys.... you have been warned.
Well, you get what you expect. Anyone with at least one testicle might have a hard time tolerating this. Even MY wife thought it was too girly. Nuff said!
