The Dark Knight The Dark Knight
    5.0 Stars by B.
I'm speechless! I'm still in shock at this masterpiece called The DARK KNIGHT. I walked out of the theater in awe and realized this movie is something special and cannot be measured on a scale of 5 stars. Beautifully orchestrated and the actors all fell into perfect place, they weren't there for eye candy, they were all execellent in their roles. This is a movie you must watch, comic book fan or unfan, this is by far the best film of 2008. Director Christopher Nolan surpasses "Batman Begins" and blows the roof off with this installment of the Batman series. So well written, each scene with tension and drama that made Batman real and honest and got to the heart of who he is. This is a film based on a comic book, not a comic book trying to be a film. It evokes real life human emotion within the characters, not only Batman's character but questions our morals as well. Christian Bale is Bruce Wayne and Batman in every sense, perfect. Heath Ledger left me wanting for more and plays the Joker superb! He is menacing, demonic and scary on screen, loved his one liners! Finally seeing them duel it out on film was way over do and loved every minute of it. Batman versus Joker! This was it and the battles they had were intense and action packed! I applauded, I cheered and thats what movies should do! Two thumbs up for Dark Knight.
Favorite Scene:Batman and Joker, face to face in the interrogation room. Classic! Favorite Line: JOKER; I'm like a dog chasing cars, but I wouldn't know what to do if I caught one. I just do!

    Paraiso Travel Paraiso Travel
    3.0 Stars by B.
"Paraiso Travel" shows the harsh struggles Colombian immigrants have to endure as they make their way to the United States. As well as conquering the physical elements some face different problems, as in the case of Marlon. A young Colombian whose love is put to the test when he losses his girlfriend in New York City after a small run in with the police. The movie shows us how a small group of immigrants make their way from Colombia to Texas. The story was interesting and makes you realize the struggles of the immigrant. I wasn't a fan of how director Simon Brand uses flashbacks throughout the movie to show us the whole path the immigrants took as they get closer to their destination. The movie gets it's point across by showing you the mental anguish of Marlon, a small fish in a big lake.
    Favorite Scene: Marlon mees Milagros.

    Cloverfield Cloverfield
    3.5 Stars by B.
An entertaining film with tons of elements that make a daring movie stand alone in a sensitive and safe America. Cloverfield makes a direct and efficient point of out the traditional elements we know in movie making and give a different perspective on how we the audience percieve a film and come to our own conclusions, not only in the end but by the end of every scene. By allowing the film to be completely witnessed through the footage of a video camera, we are subjective and unaware of any voice-over or guide but to only assume the obvious, what we see and hear. That is what makes Cloverfield unique and evokes a True sense of suspense that I haven't seen in an American film in quite some time. After the film was done I felt a sense of originality and risk in this type of filmmaking. In the tradition of Irreversible(2002) Cloverfield dares to be somewhat different and its very important that filmmakers and film watchers don't become complacent and comfortable with the aesthetics of film or story telling. If that happens, then cinema can truly die.

    Pusher Pusher
    3.5 Stars by B.
PUSHER is a dark and raw crime drama from Denmark that shows what happens in the shadows of drug pushers. Great from the first frame, the film delivers an honest vision and welcomes us into Frank's unstable world. Alone or with back-stabbing characters worse than he is, Frank makes one deal to many and is pressured with the ultimate price. An enjoyable character to watch that always finds it easier to trust himself, not even his loyal girlfriend. What caught my attention was the camera work specifically how it moves continuously and changes direction. Some can argue Pusher could be considered a "Dogma" film due to it's hand held work, natural lighting and complete absence of separate music soundtrack. This adds to the realism and the film's tone. Dogma can be definetly incorporated into any genre and it works really well with this crime drama thanks to director Nicolas Winding Refn's vision. The first of 3 parts, Pusher is a must see for the crime/ganster lover in you.
Favorite Scene: Frank and Tony have a "play knife fight" at a bar. Looks like it was slowed down in post. Very Cool.
DENMARK. DARK. CRIME GANSTER DRAMA. "NOT INTERESTED"?
    Give a shot.
