Hi! So here's a tad about moi:
I stare at the television screen so often it's unhealthy. I'm absolutely addicted to film, and can't get enough. Therefore, I could not live without my TV and massive DVD collection. Love original, witty-humoured comedies, action, psychological thrillers, dramas, foreign films... Overall, I'm just a huge movie buff and I guess that's why we're all here! Also a big fan of music in general but specifically Indie/Alternative Rock. And I must confess that I am addicted to the medical drama, Grey's Anatomy; the intriguing island mystery, Lost; and the ever so unpredictable comic book series Heroes. = ) I enjoy most sports: volleyball, soccer, tennis, swimming, etc. Absolutely LOVE traveling -- hitting the beaches, tanning by the pool, shopping, exploring the various cultures and surroundings, and chowing down on the cuisine! And if you'd like to add me as a friend or vise versa, say hello and start a conversation because it is only polite. Remember this is a FILM site and that is what we are, for the most part, here to discuss. So don't be leaving me your email or MSN addresses, cause I'm not interested. I am also not interested whatsoever in viewing any bloody widgets, they will be deleted Immediately. Films soon to be seen: - Lars and the Real Girl - No Country For Old Men - Cassandra's Dream |

Ocean's Eleven
PG-13
Ocean's Eleven is probably one of the best light-hearted films I've ever seen about a robbery. The characters of the film are perfect and carefully designed to portray an array of unlikely personalities. And they band together to pull off one of the greatest jobs of all times- robbing the vault of the Bellagio. George Clooney plays the infamous Daniel Ocean, the idea man of the crew. Ocean is a charming, witty, and absolutely lovable character. Brad Pitt, who plays Rusty Ryan, Ocean's right-hand man who puts the job into action is hilarious and always eating in the film... Matt Damon plays the rookie, and is son of a legendary thief. Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) is a robot in the fashion he runs his life and hotels. The perfect antagonist. The brothers Virgil and Turk Malloy, played by Affleck and Caan respectively, add a slap-stick humour to the film. They are immature and hilarious, but are the ideal duo to assist in pulling off the job. Overall, Ocean's Elven is a terrific film. It has wonderful characters and an unbelievable cast, great setting and atmosphere in Las Vegas, and is 100% pure entertainment. This is a definite must see!!

The Devil Wears Prada
PG-13
The Devil Wears Prada- Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci. (02/10/07) A phenomenal film with an equally phenomenal cast! This is easily one of the best films I've seen this year. It is wonderfully written, and talentedly cast. A story about a young, smart, and ambitious college graduate Andrea Sachs (Hathaway) who comes to New York hoping to pursue a career in journalism. So she becomes the personal assistant to the ruthless and cynical fashion editor, Miranda Priestly (Streep) at the prestigious Runway magazine, where after a year she will be able to write for any newspaper. But what Sachs does not know is her own lack of fashion sense and knowledge of the fashion world makes her stick out like a sore thumb. This is The job that "all girls would Die for." First assistant Emily (Blunt) and photo shoot designer Nigel (Tucci) are Priestly's loyal followers. Both making Andrea's life a living hell, until eventually befriending them. Nigel changes her wardrobe and style; and eventually Sachs entire personality is altered. Now entering the world of fashion of free designer clothing and glamorous parties and people, and living it up. Eventually she begins to disregard her friends and boyfriend all for her job. She takes a phenomenal job with Priestly to Paris, where she discovers the ugly world of fashion and how people are stomped over. And Andrea must decide what she wants. Anne Hathaway, in sort of another Princess Diaries style-like transformation is wonderful yet again. Going from geeky style-less college grad, to chic, fashionable and egotistic. Meryl Streep puts on by far the best performance as the cynical and ruthless "villain" Miranda Priestly, and I absolutely loved her. Stanley Tucci is hilarious, and utterly hilarious. Those one-liner insults are fabulous. But Emily Blunt truly surprised me, with her snobbish character Emily who literally worships Priestly giving up her life for her job. This is a Fantastic film that is witty humoured and terrifically cast. The Devil Wears Prada is pure excellence and entertainment, and I recommend that it been rented and seen!! (But I noticed that there was only one Prada bag in the entire film.)
4.
The Prestige
PG-13
A film about a rivalry between two magicians, Jackman and Bale, to the best and most original. This movie keeps the audience guessing and on their toes. It captures the curiosity of human nature, and keeps one emotionally hooked until the very end. The plot is fantastic, and the ending/prestige was vicariously shocking, and twisted. Definitely a movie to see.
5.
The Notebook
PG-13
This film was sweet and charming and Ryan Gosling was put on an unbelievable performance. He gained so much respect from me after this film, (because he used to be in that teen series which was absolutely dreadful). Rachel McAdams was great too, and they made such a lovely on screen couple. The ending's the part of the film that really gets to you.

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl
PG-13
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl is one of my favourite films and by far the best of the Pirates trilogy. (I felt obliged to rewrite my review after seeing all three films.) It's one hundred percent pure entertainment, there is not a moment in the film where the audience loses interest. The cast is Amazing (Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Jack Davenport), and it's chalked full of witty humour. One may be skeptical about seeing a film about squash-buckling skally-wags, but do not be deterred by the stereotype. The film is absolutely unbelievable. I have seen it more than several times myself, and I was equally thrilled to see it each time. The plot is phenomenal and very original. The crew of a pirate ship commits mutiny, abandons their captain, steals and plunders hundreds of pieces of Aztec tresure, only to find out it's been cursed. And like most films nowadays, there is a brewing romance. Johnny Depp who portrays Jack Sparrow Captain of the Black Pearl is by far my favourite fictional character. And obviously this is my favourite performance by Depp. He is awkward, witty, reckless, and an absolute scoundrel, but totally lovable nonetheless. Geoffrey Rush is also amazing as Captain Barbossa, he's frightening, has that maniacal laughter and the perfect antagonist. Davenport, Knightley, and Bloom were also solid in portraying their characters, and the rest of the cast did a wonderful job as well. The biggest contributor to the film being such a success besides the casting has to be the cinematography and costumes. It made the film seem more like a reality and blatantly, what it is. You have to see the extras on the dvds to appreciate the extents to which were taken in producing the film. All I can say is that Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl is exciting, original, humourous, and that I recommend it.

Alice, Sweet Alice (Communion)
by BrianThis was actually pretty creepy and well thought out, with a twist that I didn't see coming.
It's definitely something that could be remade today if the story was tweaked a little to be updated for today.
Paula Sheppard (Alice) gives a great performance.
Not nearly as over the top and campy and most other horror from this time period.Hey, you should really see this!

To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday
by BrianDVR'd this.
The film is only 12 years old and still it's like from a different, simpler world.
Total chick that is a little uneven, but the acting maks up for it.
Plus hilarious to see Freddie Prinze, Jr in what had to have been one of his first roles,
Cute -- leaves you with a good feeling. If you like chick flicks.

One Missed Call
by BrianTo tell the truth, this film is not majorly scary by any means, but I was still emgrossed in it --- it's fun to watch.
First of all, I love Shannyn Sossamon and will watch anything she's in, but also Sossamon and Burns had good chemistry on screen, I thought.
Yes, it's formulaic and very derivative, aside from the fact that it's a remake of J horror, but there's a popcorn flick element to it that makes it fun. It's fun and fans of Shannyn Sossamon will like this one.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
by Alexander''Let this remind you why you once feared the dark... ''
A mythical prince starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so Hellboy and his team must save the world yet again from a certain unstoppable Golden Army.
Ron Perlman: Hellboy
Hellboy 2 is one of the most unexpected pleasures and combinations of genres I've seen in a while. Not only is this Hellboy sequel a comic book film but it's also a mixture of fantasy, imagination and comedy, light and dark.
Del Toro has taken the whole idea and turned it upside down and what comes about as an end result truly is refreshing. We have John Hurt popping up yet again in a much needed flashback prelude to explain about the film's backbone, the golden army.
We have a new wonderful villain in the form of Prince Nuada (Luke Goss,Blade 2), who displays some wonderful stuntwork and swordplay, not too mention some real class lines and showmanship, he gets his intent across effortlessly. I also loved his sister Princess Nuala (Anna Walton) and the connection they share.
Ron Perlman again shines as the lead Hellboy while the old team of Liz and Abe make for some fun times. Also a new character in the form of Johann Krauss(Voiced by Seth MacFarlane) provides us with laughs aplenty and a mysteriously suited ''gas man''. I mean when you get to the locker scene with Krauss and Hellboy and you can't stop laughing then you truly start to realize the many wondrous sides Hellboy 2 has.
The little tooth beasties were awesome and as they enter that fantastical troll town I began to think this is like some kind of fantasy Star Wars mixed with Pan's labyrinth and shaken with even traces of LOTR. The creatures and effects were completely perfect on the whole, overall. Think Pan's Labyrinth fused with the Silent Hill game series and that conjures up a relatively accurate description.
In the headquarters it felt to me, as Jeffrey Tambor & Abe are walking along the place, like a warped version of Men In Black where they are talking but you're also interested in seeing also what is happening in the background.
The new inclusion of Danny Elfman too for the music gives the movie an injection of vibrance also, and you really feel the momentum on the action parts and battles, as well as the chases. Hellboy 2 wasn't what I expected, which is a good thing and mixes fantasy with comic class. Throwing in laughs, romance and even a definite nod to a third installment.
A grand achievement and I'm left inspired artistically and creative wise also from Hellboy 2, a true vision from Del Toro that doesn't have to be too serious to be a bloody good show.A bloody good comic book/fantasy film.
Hellboy 2:Golden Army was simply amazing.
Abe wearing a toilet seat, and a ''gas man'' locker scene, is this film meant to be pant wettingly funny.
Del Toro shows he can do no wrong in my books, a visionary director.posted 1 day ago -

The Holy Mountain
by BillSeriously...this director was on some serious drugs or I needed to be on some serious drugs to understand this movie. Sure I could see how some things in the movie could be 'symbols' but this movie is a terrible mess of images thrown at the viewer. Nothing made sense and I was quite often disturbed at what I was seeing.
I see majority of flixster likes this bombardment of strange and unusual images, but I am not recommending this...I couldn't even describe the plot(cause really, there isn't one) or story...

The Honeymoon Killers
by BrianThis is the original film that is based on the Lonely Hearts Killers, Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck, who would exploit women through the Lonely Hearts Club in the 1940s, take their money, and kill them.
The 2006 film Lonely Hearts is an updated version with Salma Hayek and Jared Leto in the roles, which I want to see now, but I wanted to see the original first.
The Honeymoon Killers is solid, but the truth of the lifes of the real people and the circumstances of the their upbringing and crimes is much more interesting than the movie lets on. I guess it had to be watered down for a 1969/1970 audience.
The acting iswell done tho and the film interesting enough, especially for the time.Hey, you should really see this!

Anatomy (Anatomie)
by BrianThis is a strange one, because it came out in 2000, yet it has the feel of a movie from ten years earlier. Plus, I saw it with dupped English voices and would have rather have seen it in German with subtitles.
It's a decent poremise and has potential, but it's handled so lamely and ameturishly.
See it if you love the genre, or if you love Franka Potente (which I do). Otherwisae, nothing special.Nothing special. See only if you like the genre or Franka Potente.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (4 luni, 3 saptamini si 2 zile)
by JaniceGLORIOUS! GLORIOUS! GLORIOUS!
Acting is impeccable (top notch) and incredibly believable. So believable in fact that the conversation about the abortion made me feel extremely queasy and desirous of ending the film (I am squeamish of nature) - that's how real it was.
Definitely haven't seen such brilliant actors in a while...!
Story flows along smoothly, with just the right amount of suspense to keep us on the edge of our seats.
The ending blew me away! It was so simple yet so poignant.
Probably the best thing that's happened to foreign cinema in the year 2008 (or was it at the end of 2007? Pff, doesn't matter! I'm sure it owns the foreign films of 2007 anyhow!).You are officially deranged if you don't see this.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
by BrianIt was a lot better than I expected, given the genre (not my favorite) and just reservations in general.
If you effectively leave your brain at the door it's a good enough story and the action is decent.
Another slightly different role for Jason Statham and nice to see Leelee Sobieski.
But there was some effed up casting! Lay Liotta (whenever I see him I pretty much assume the movie [or at least his part] will suck) and Burt Reynolds (who despite face lifts and botox and toupes galore is just this side of the retirement home to me). What was Boll thinking?
All in all tho, an ok film. It's ok if you leave your brain at the door.

by BrianI had shied away from this film, mostly because I thought it looked boring, and I don't much care for Kevin Spacey, but I persuaded by Derek's review (thanks man)
Althought it's not without faults, it's more interesting than I anticipated because it's about more than just Vegas and counting cards and gambling. It's moreso about what having this ability (counting cards) can do to a person,
It does drag some in the middle and the male lead is flat to me, asd well as most of the cast really, but the movie itself is interesting. And the ending is satisfying.Hey, you should really see this!

by BrianI'd been wanting to see this film for a while, mostly because I like Lucas Black and Fred Willard both, and the premise seemed ok for a non-thinking movie.
For those of you who have seen Camp (I know there are several on my list), I believe you will like this because the movies share similar themes (loveable misfits band together for support and for a creative outlet).
It's not groundbreaking or uber original, but it's fun and satisfying. A movie to see with friends.Hey, you should really see this!

My Bloody Valentine
by BrianI'm really starting to appreciate the campyness of this horror of this time period. Every movie is a certain mixture of intentional/unintentional comedy, but is also scary if you get into it.
And My Bloody Valentine is pretty good. While I'm sure that the remake will be something more like I'm used to seeing (coming out in 2009, starring Jensen Ackles, among others), there's something about the tone of this one that pulled me in and was addictive.
Alsom, for anyone who has seen it and remembers it, did anyone else think that the two male leads at times sounded like leprochauns with their accents? haha I don't know where this was meant to be set, but it was obviously America somewhere, right?
Worth a look for any horror fan :)Hey, you should really see this!

by BillJust watched the Directors cut and found it still to be entertaining and original as it was first released.
Rufus Sewell has talent but doesn't get many leading roles, maybe due to the eye thing..who knows. Kiefer Sutherland does an amazing job supporting this movie its crazy. But the thing I like most is the whole look and feel to the movie. It's dark....It's meant to be and it definetly has a creepy moment or two.Hey, you should really see this!

by BillI seen the trailer for this a while back and thought it was gonna be another zombie virus movie and was thrown a complete differant direction. More of an action movie but I was impressed at what Neil Marshall did with it. He scared the hell out of me with the Decent and this one just keeps the momentum going.
I did like the mixture of eras that were thrown in. From the apocolyptic punks in the city to medieval out casts living on there own. Gave the movie something new and not usually seen together and it worked well.Hey, you should really see this!

by BillSTrange, weird, and yet really funny. I liked this alot. A differant approach to a 'love' story and its entertaining. Hunter and Lindo were two of the main people i was watchin for though. Their characters were good and I think Hunter was the best in the entirety. Diaz and McGregor were the starring roles of course but She just stood out a bit more.
Over all story was good, A kidnapping gone wrong and other things take effect that make it its own story and not just 'another one of those' movies.Hey, you should really see this!

by BillI watched this again for the first time since it's initial release on vhs. I realize I was a fan of Del Toro before Pan's Labyrinth.
Ron Perlman does a good job as hellboy and Doug Jones is always cool to watch even though he don't speak much.
Theres more to this then just another based on a comic movie. A visionary director made this movie his own and quite frankly is one of the better adaptations, in my opinion anyway. Theres more character work done in this and makes it seem more real compared to whats been thrown out there.Hey, you should really see this!
