The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004, R)
Sean Penns acting in this film is totally outstanding! It´s one of the greatest performances I´ve ever seen. This is a movie that touched me so deeply and I cried myself sick almost from the beginning to the end. This is a story about oppression, alienation, frustration and human kind that really have a lot to tell us. |

Citizen Kane (1941, PG)
This is a really amazing piece of filmhistory! Orson Welles was only 26 years when he wrote and directed this one which is really impressive. It is a fantastic and tragic story about fame, greed and loneliness. In my opinion Citizen Kane is one of the most important and accomplished films ever made. |

Der Freie Wille (The Free Will) (2006, Unrated)
Is there such a thing as free will? And if so: how far does it reach? Are we really able to forgive? Ourselves? Others? This film is one of the most serious striving for humanity and desperate search of meaning in this deep dark loneliness in our unspeakable grim society I´ve ever stumbled upon. It left me, with so many thoughts of what really should be done with this lifetime. Even if the film mostly is about the individual destruction and the collectives lack of mercy the story shows that real beauty exist but that it is so vulnerable one can hardly speak about it. The german director Matthias Glasners fourth feature film is a 160 minutes exceptionally intense, sad and brutal naturalistic report on human life, a naked portrait of perpetrators and victims and the very thin line in between. The film holds some of the most devout feelings I´ve ever watched on screen. The main actors Jürgen Vogel and Sabine Timoteo gets just as close to their characters Theo and Nettie as I think is possible. |

Wild At Heart (1990, R)
David Lynch truly gets under your skin and in between your little grey braincells. He seems to have access to all my subconcious fears. In this movie there is a scene with a head split open on a stair which (besides the terrifying cut of the eye in Buñuels Un chien andalou) won´t leave me alone... Really disturbing. And amazing. |
