The true story of terror attacks in Germany of the 1960s and 70s, performed by left extremists of the Red Army Fraction. While the movie is already two and a half hours long, it would have needed even another hour to deliver the background for people not familiar with this part of Germany's history. Especially the end comes rather suddenly and should have some explanations added for foreign audiences. That being said, the film does a great job in bringing this time back to life by rushing through the most important events in a really exciting and interesting way, following the most important characters on both sides of the law. The cast reads like a who is who of current German cinema, the performances are all around great, especially by Moritz Bleibtreu as terrorist leader Andreas Baader. By using montages with original news footage and music, delivering some of the strongest scenes, the film manages to sum up the mood, thread, ideas and emotions involved at that time really well. It just shows what happened, without judging or taking either the terrorists' or the law's side. A great history lesson, but probably hard to consume without some more background information.
Hey, you should really see this if you are interested in recent German history. While it surely works as a political action thriller, it might require some more knowledge of German and world politics of the 1960s and 70s to be fully understood and appreciated.

After the dead serious "No Country for Old Men" the Coen brothers return to lighter material, without entirely giving up their love for grotesque humor and sudden violence, think "Fargo". The soundtrack also remains serious, hinting at a political thriller. But in the end it's a bizarre comedy. Their biggest assets in this film are a script that starts out slow but soon becomes entirely unpredictable and more exciting every minute and a great cast of big names delivering wonderful performances for their ridiculously stupid and obnoxious characters. The end sums it up so well, all is said and done, yet nothing solved, some but not everyone got what they deserved and a few didn't even make it there. To watch the path leading there is a lot of fun, though.
Hey, you should really see this if you enjoy the Coen brothers' work or other bizarre comedies.

In a world where people running as fast as the wind drag girls on leashes behind them like kites anything's possible. So no one should make the mistake and compare this to fantastic but somewhat historical movies like Hero. This is pure fantasy, even without made-up creatures. The plot of the cursed girl between three men isn't entirely new but the story remains rather unpredictable in all its craziness. It's not always entirely certain why the characters act the way they do, but each and every frame of this movie looks like a frikkin picture. Its picture should be in dictionaries under eye candy. The stunningly beautiful cinematography, sets, costumes and design combined with a pompous soundtrack make up for a lot of plot holes and create a larger than life experience of epic proportions. When the ugly guy in black is not the villain and the pretty bad guy still has the feather-like hairdo after taking his helmet off you realize you're in the middle of a real life manga. The result is so very entertaining, that all its flaws are easily ignored.
Hey, you should really see this if you like cheesy, over the top but beautifully filmed Asian films!
If you're stuck in realism mode, skip this.

First thing first: I love ABBA. Second, I loved the setting in that tiny greek island. Everybody did a pretty good job at singing except for Pierce Brosnan of course, damn he killed "SOS" and "When all is said and done". Amanda and Meryl sang great though, specially Amanda.
I absolutely loved when she started singing "Honey, honey". The Highlights in terms of music have to be "Dancing queen", "Voulez-vous", "Gimme, gimme gimme", "Lay all your love on me", "I have a dream", "Our last summer", damn i named a lot...anyway, most of them were quite good, except as i said SOS which is a great ABBA song but Pierce killed it!
Everyone in the movie was really sun tanned and the whole movie had a bright colored feel, which was great!
See it, absolutely feel good film. And even more if you happen to like ABBA....
