Lost Boys 2: The Tribe Lost Boys 2: The Tribe Unrated 2.0 Stars
The beauty of the original Lost Boys was that it was comedy mixed with horror. Lost Boys made vampires cool again, and it did it without extreme special effects/CGI, gore, or nudity. Its characters were diverse and likeable, and the actors hip and sassy, and the writing was clever. Every element that went into making the original Lost Boys an instant teen cult classic was blatantly disregarded in The Tribe. The acting was dull, and the story was cliché - we've seen it all before. Furthermore, as if I wasn't disappointed enough, the Frog Brothers - the most memorable and loveable characters in the original - were split up. Corey Feldman did an excellent job staying true to his character, but Edger's brother/partner-in-crime, Alan (Jamison Newlander), was completely obliterated from the film. Aside from Feldman, the rest of the cast appeared to be sleepwalking. We've been waiting over a decade for this second-rate sequel? It's insulting. If you're a die-hard fan of The Lost Boys, you will surely be disappointed because this film is definitely a slap in the face to fans.
Penelope Penelope PG 3.5 Stars
Penelope Wilhern (Christina Ricci), born to wealthy socialites (Catherine O'Hara and Robert E. Grant), is afflicted by the Wilhern spell that can only be broken when she finds love. Hidden away in her family's estate, the lonely girl meets a string of suitors in her parent's futile attempt to break the curse. Each eligible bachelor is enamored with Penelope and her sizable dowry; until her curse is revealed. Lemon (Peter Dinklage), a mischievous and eager tabloid reporter wants a photograph of the mysterious Penelope and hires Max (James McAvoy) to pose as a prospective suitor to get the shot. The handsome down-on-his luck gambler finds himself falling for Penelope, but not wanting to disappoint her or to expose his surreptitious ways, he decides to disappear. Fed up by his latest betrayal and determined to live life on her own terms, Penelope breaks free from her family and ventures into the world alone. She finds adventure with Annie, her first friend (Reese Witherspoon) and becomes the person she was meant to be: herself. Penelope is a sweet and charming modern-day take of Cinderella, paying homage to other such films as Ella Enchanted and Enchanted. A nice, fun family movie.
The Dark Knight The Dark Knight PG-13 5.0 Stars
Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker's crimes grow more and more deadly. Unlike Batman Begins, The Dark Knight has proven not to disappoint. Heath Ledger as The Joker is clearly the backbone of this film. His audacious performance is so profoundly terrifying and believable that he literally brings The Joker to life. You start to think The Joker is real, and no longer just a character on screen. The late Ledger's final act is sure to leave you in awe and fascination. Highly recommended.

One of the greatest movies of all time.

Empire of the Sun 3. Empire of the Sun PG 4.5 Stars
A semi-autobiographical story about an 11 year old boy growing up in a Japanese internment camp for 3 years during WWII, Empire of the Sun is stunning, and one of director Steven Spielberg's most brilliant cinematic masterpieces. Christian Bale is incredible - this was definitely the best-played role of his career to date. John Malkovich and Miranda Richardson give compelling performances as the supporting cast.
Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children 4. Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children PG-13 4.5 Stars

Into the Wild 5. Into the Wild R 5.0 Stars
Into the Wild is based on a true story and the bestselling book by Jon Krakauer. After graduating from Emory University in 1992, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) abandons his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life. Into the Wild is brilliantly captivating, and one of the most heart-wrenching and thought-provoking independent films I've seen in a long time. Emile Hirsch wickedly molds Christopher McCandless, aka 'Alexander Supertramp,' into the most unlikely of heroes. A truly remarkable film.
Hairspray (2007) 6. Hairspray (2007) PG 4.5 Stars
Set in Baltimore during the 1960s dance TV craze, a zaftig high school hair-hopper, Tracy Turnblad, graduates from outsider to celebrity trendsetter and along the way she stars on "The Corny Collins Show," wins the heart of resident hunk Link Larkin and kicks down the barriers for black and white integration on local television. Hairspray is festive, energetic, and simply amazing. Newcomer Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad outshines even Ricki Lake in John Waters' original cult classic with her fresh, spunky attitude and charm. Elijah Kelley as Seaweed and Taylor Parks as his little sister, Inez steal your heart and the show. You can't stop the beat with this instant hit!
