Drop Zone
by KhrisWesley hits the air time again, as a US Marshall pursuing a computer genius who was kidnapped at high altitude by a group of elite parachutists and ex law enforcement and soldiers. Knowing that the kidnappers and his prisoner is still alive, he takes to the skies with the aid of a crazy drop expert and her equally crazy team , learning how to parachute, as well following the trail of the kidnappers, who have a bad guy agenda to make millions, by utilizing their skills.
Wesley can't get enough of high altitude, and honestly, if we had mroe cops and security like Snipes, we'd be a hella lot safer! But anyways, this movie, like Passenger 57, set the bar again for a new kind of action. A mix of gun play, fist-cuffs and sky diving embroiled in an average though believable plot, makes for a pretty good flick.
And why not? This is one of the earliest movies to take extreme sports to the big screen in a big way, and the sky diving cinematography was excellent, most of the time. But the cast was good, another bad guy in the form of bad ass Gary Busey. Snipes, once again, is a flawed and vulnerable character, and is pretty much a novice when it comes sky diving. But considering what he's up against, he had to learn how to fly pretty fast, before the ground or the bad guys get him, whichever comes first.
So welcome to the daredevil world of sky diving.... and Wesley Snipes. XDposted 3 days ago -

Hard Target
by KhrisJohn Woo's first venture into the American market was actually tame in comparison to his Hong Kong Movies which is stuff of legends.
But then again, American movie makers did sit up and take notice... and their jaws dropped when this gem got released.
Hardcore, over the top and even maybe a little ridiculous at times, but still enjoyable for the action junkie. If its John Woo you want, this is gonna provide.
Van Damme plays a retired Marine Recon Soldier (aka Special Forces) who is hired by a young woman looking for her missing father. What they uncover is a dark and sinister group who provides the ultimate hunt - man hunting of retired combat soldiers at half a million dollars per head. Led by the egotistical and smooth Lance Henriksen, and aided by his second, the ultra violent Arnold Vosloo (whose name is Van Cleef btw, XD) they decide Van Damme and his new friend have butted their nose in where it doesnt belong. But of course, who is hunting who, as Van Damme takes it up a few notches.
Its the early 90's people want kick ass and things that go BOOOM. So be happy. XD
I guess the standout scene is the intro fight, the drawling western showdown music, the gunslinger routine and lightning fast draw.... if its one thing this film does better than most, its the style of the action. Smooth, strong and effective, making use of Van Damme's awesome martial arts and beautifully caught in slow motion in some places.
There's nothing really more to say, just action, action and more action. Thats what I loved about the 90's. Action. XDposted 3 days ago -

Passenger 57
by KhrisAs Im reviewing this, I've gotten into a 90's action phase, reviewing all the classic action flicks back in the day.
Obviously these guys aren't Oscar winners, but these movies did set a standard of action for the decade, and some of the biggest action stars made their mark, and the stories were unique and the bad guys were the best ever on the screen.
One of the early classics is Passenger 57, which took plan hijacking and terrorism to a new level in the 90's, and made Wesley Snipes a household name and gave him a chance to display his impressive martial arts. Supported by Tom Sizemore, a young Liz Hurley and Bruce Payne as one of the best bad guys in the movies, Snipes goes up against a terrorist and master hijacker, who is also insane.
Of course, the story element isn't the best, but solid enough to include a background trauma for Snipe's character, he isn't an invulnerable hero, but a man dealing with a painful loss who just got back into the business, but he happens to be the best at what he does.
Though not much for background and production work, the music, done by one of my favorite musicians, Stanley Clarke, had a good dark beat and the intro roll was akin to a James Bond opening credits, without the naked women of course. XD But the Xray effect and synthesized score also set a new tone and sound for the 90's.
I love this movie because I think this is a great, basic action film, and mostly set the trend for others to come, as far as martial arts, gunfights and planes. Snipes is a good actor, no doubt about that, he played the part perfectly, mixing a brooding, hard edged character who can throw a razor one liner at the bad guys when needed, or preferably, a kick to the face.
Probably one of the best action movies around, which is unique in its own right.posted 3 days ago -

Defiance
by K JAfter viewing Defiance, I found myself without any negative criticisms for the film. From beginning to end, this true tale of the Bielski brothers WWII adventures into the Blearussian forest is captivating and astonishing. The polished script, flawless cinematography and brilliant acting are just icing on the cake for this inspiring story of Jewish people who resisted the Nazi occupation.

Deep Impact
by AndrewAstronomers discover a giant comet on a collision course with the Earth, so a manned rocket armed with nuclear warheads is sent to intercept it.
Tea Leoni plays the reporter who is keeping TV viewers informed of the impending crisis, and coping with a family crisis of her own - her parents have split up, and her Dad is running off with a younger woman! Unfortunately, this is just one of several distracting sub-plots which doesn't really advance the main plot in any way. Furthermore, Leoni's acting is totally flat and uninspired; they could have chosen a much better lead actress. However, Morgan Freeman is convincing as the U.S. President, and Robert Duvall is good as the senior astronaut.
There are some very moving scenes as the astronauts say good-bye to their loved ones just before embarking on a suicide mission to save the world, and the special effects are awesome as the comet slams into the Atlantic Ocean, creating a huge tsunami (not a tidal wave!), which engulfs the entire eastern seaboard.
Also starring a younger-looking Elijah Wood (Frodo from "Lord of the Rings").posted 160 days ago -

Star Trek
by Sarah
A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members
" I'm a doctor, not a physicist!- McCoy"
Now I have been waiting for this film to come out for so so long and so glad that it finally got the right release date. I am mainly a fan of TNG but equally love the original series which I have watched many many times. I am pleased to say that it exceeded my expectations in every single way and the 2 and a bit hours flew by. Probably one of the best cinematic experiences that I've had...purely because of the fact that I don't normally not notice the time fly by!
One thing that does annoy me is the stingma attached to being a fan of the franchise. Why should people think you must be a geek for liking this? Well, anyway, having watched the original series I can safely say that Abrams has perfectly cast everyone in this film. From the first showings of Kirk, Spock and the crew these actors were the legendary characters that I had been watching. Obviously Zachary Quinto is perfect at Spock but equally brilliant was Chris Pine. Not only does he look gorgeous but he looks like a young Shatner and every mannerism is there to the sitting on the captains chair, to the look to Spock everything was perfect. Karl Urban also made me laugh as he too was just perfect in the role of Bones McCoy. IWhat was interesting there was the fact that I hadn't really any idea of the relationship between Kirk and Bones and that it was so close. Anton Yelchin as Checkov was spot on aswell with that very broken English accent that we all know and love from the orginal series. Zoe Saldana as Uhura really suprised me aswell as I just didn't picture her like that at all. Would love the know about the realtionship between Uhura and Spock, that was something which did baffle me a little I must admit.
The special effects were absolutly incredible which really brought the film alive and kicking into the audience's minds. I think that may really be the reason why It really felt just incredible to watch. I don't think a Star Trek film, even with the Next Generation. I think it will mos likely be up for an Oscar.
What Abrams has done is created a whole new Trek for a Post-modern generation where things like Star Trek are seen as something for Geeks, as I mentioned before. After watching this film, it really feels like a part of popular culture. He's created a Trek, which it is cool to watch and you don't feel like a Geek at all.
Overall, just one brilliant prequel to an already lengendary franchise. One film which you don't have to have seen any Trek episodes at all to enjoy. Look out for a cameo by Lenoard Nimoy and a great performance by Eric Bana. Now eagerly await the sequal
Highly recomended
