1
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
The best of the LOTR trilogy it has it all - action, drama, emotion and great performances from a great cast. The perfect end to a perfect set of movies.
2
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring
The first of the fantasy trilogy is a great introdution to what is to come. I remember seeing this the first time at the cinema and being totally blown away.
3
The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers
Probably the weakest of the trilogy though still amazing. It suffers with having no real beginning or end. Though the battle of Helm's Deep is outstanding.
4
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009,  PG)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Finely crafted and well adapted the 6th Harry Potter film is a brooding gothic feast for the eyes. The darkness of this film is only lifted by the brilliant comedy moments, though the look of this film is of danger and horror thanks to the amazing cinematography. The performances are as always superb. Jim Broadbent is brilliant as Horace Slughorn and Michael Gambon finally gets to grips with Dumbledore's character, after a shaky start taking over from Richard Harris. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson once again mature into their roles as the famous trio and Tom Felton finally gets a chance to shine as Draco Malfoy. There isn't a bad performance here, everything just seems to fit and flows along at a pace that the running time of over two hours seems to fly by. The usual arguments of plot changes and admissions aside, this is certainly one of the best Potter films - it has action, comedy, horror and emotion. An outstanding build up to the two part 7th instalment.
5
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007,  PG-13)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
You cannot fault the Harry Potter movies on their entertainment value. This fifth movie is a brilliant adaptation. Although at times it feels a bit rushed plot wise it is visually stunning and there are faultless performances from all no matter how big or small their part is. The main trio have matured brilliantly and of the new charcters Imelda Staunton, Evanna Lynch and Helena Bonham Carter shine.
6
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005,  PG-13)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The fourth movie in the Harry Potter series has a great dark edge. Yes it cuts out loads of the book but the Triwizard Tournaments tasks have been brought to life brilliantly. I wasn't disappointed.
7
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004,  PG)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

8

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Although he did not direct this madcap and very original film, this is defiantly Tim Burton's show as his characters and story are brought to life by Henry Selick. Pumpkin King of Halloween, Jack Skellington decides to steal Christmas from Santa, with disasterous results. The stunning gothic look blended with great animation and enjoyable songs make this an unmissable treat.
23
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007,  R)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Unashameably gory, this is a visual treat with director Tim Burton serving up another gothic masterpiece. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are great both on the acting and singing stakes and Alan Rickman is a terrific villain. The only problem here is there could've been a little more dialogue between the songs but overall this is an amazing film. Not one for the weak stomached or faint hearted...

33
Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave (,  Unrated)
Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave
One of the best Wallace and Gromit adventures before they went to the big screen. Wallace falls for the brilliant Wendolene, while the equally brilliant Shaun of the Sheep makes his debut. A hilarious short that you can watch time and time again and still find funny. The animation is superb and the gags come thick and fast. Perfect family entertainment.
34
Wallace and Gromit in the Wrong Trousers (1993,  Unrated)
Wallace and Gromit in the Wrong Trousers
The second Wallace and Gromit caper is one of the most loved. 44
Beetle Juice (Beetlejuice) (1988,  PG)
Beetle Juice (Beetlejuice)
Another weird and wonderful Tim Burton creation. Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin play a married couple who find that they have died in a car crash and find their perfect home being taken over by a new family. Finding it extremely difficult to haunt the horrible new occupants, they enlist the help of 'bio-exorcist' Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton). Burton's visual flair and dark sense of humour is brilliantly on display here yet again and it is a darkly delicious gothic treat.
45
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
This movie is an absolute must see. It's visually stunning to look at with terrific sets. The direction is superb with a dark and gritty look that contrasts well with the fantasy world. Also it has a raw human emotion that is compelling to watch and can be extremely graphic at times. All in all this is a movie that has to be seen to be believed.

Son of Rambow (2007,  PG-13)
Son of Rambow
A simple film that has lots of charm and heart thanks to brilliant performances from Bill Milner and Will Poulter. They play two contrasting boys who form an unlikely friendship and decide to make a film called "Son of Rambow." The importance of friendship and all these kinds of themes has been covered a million times before, but this film feels fresh and there is a lot here to enjoy whether it be the enjoyable or emotional moments. An unmissable treat.

59
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
A unique and incredible film telling the story of Benjamin Button, who lives his life backwards -- he is born with the features of an old man and slowly becomes younger as he goes through life. Brad Pitt is a revelation as Benjamin, unrecognisable under the expert make up - he makes his character likeable, appealing and a great focus point for the plot. As his love interest, Cate Blanchett is equally brilliant. Taraji P. Henson as Benjamin's adoptive mother is also fabulous. With a interesting plot, superb make-up and terrific direction from David Fincher this is a journey through an extraordinary life in the tradition of Forrest Gump. And the long running time flies by at lightining speed.

61
Bridge to Terabithia (2007,  PG)
Bridge to Terabithia
Mixing fantasy and drama this movie could probably be the best family movie since ET with a big tearjerker of an ending. The performances from the two young leads are very likeable and mature. This film is not afraid to explore more adult material instead of being sickly sweet.

Though she suffers from short term memory loss and has no idea who he is every day she wakes up. As he tries to woo Lucy everyday, their love for each other grows, though is that enough to sustain a long lasting relationship? A sweet hearted comedy with the Sandler and Barrymore chemistry working a treat yet again. Certain to put a smile on your face and warm your heart.

Coraline
Following on from his signature film, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Henry Selick takes the reigns on this equally fascinating stop motion animated film. Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) is a young girl bored with her parents, neighbours and new home. She finds a door that leads into an alternate version of her life, though there is something too perfect about this life and all the people there have buttons for eyes... Visually stunning to watch, terrific animation and amazing to see in 3D if you get the chance, Coraline is a treat.
76
Play for Today (Abigail's Party) (1977,  PG)
Play for Today (Abigail's Party)
A very original Mike Leigh directed TV drama adapted from his play. Although it's dated the characters here are terrific - especially Alison Steadman's maneating Beverly, who hosts a get together with her neighbours. What follows is fun and very tragic. A great watch.
77
Happy-Go-Lucky (2008,  R)
Happy-Go-Lucky
Mike Leigh delivers yet another original film. It's all down to his skill with creating terrific characters and casting the right actors to bring his creations to life. Sally Hawkins is brilliant in the leading role as a quirky and upbeat primary school teacher who believes she can bring out the best in people with her sunny and positive outlook on life - even her driving instructor who is negative and prejudice. Not as gloomy as many Mike Leigh's projects, this is a delight to watch and will have you smiling after the credits roll.
78
Never Been Kissed (1999,  PG-13)
Never Been Kissed
Drew Barrymore puts in a brilliant performance in this teen comedy that deals with bullying instead of just lots of kids getting drunk.
79
Changeling (2008,  R)
Changeling
Angelina Jolie is a revelation in this film and shows what a great actress she truly is. She dominates this film with a heartfelt and engaging performance that was truly worthy of her Best Actress Oscar nomination. She plays Christine Collins, a mother whose son disappears. The police investigation reunites her with a boy that is not her son and after fighting for a fresh hunt for her real son, Christine finds herself thrown into a mental asylum. She fights to clear her name and most importantly find her missing son. Based upon a true story, this is an involving and emotionally moving film, expertly directed by Clint Eastwood.

The Poseidon Adventure
As good as the recent remake - The Poseidon Adventure was the original disaster movie and it still stands as a tense and entertaining adventure movie.
82

Disney's Aladdin
Robin Williams Genie is hilarious and steals the movie.
84
Ratatouille (2007,  G)
Ratatouille
Another brilliant Disney/Pixar film with all the charm that you come to expect from these kind of movies. Very original and funny this doesn't have as many adult jokes as you'd find in other Pixar movies like Finding Nemo, but this is only a minor flaw in what is an outstanding family film.

Ghost World (2001,  R)
Ghost World
Mixing comedy and drama brilliantly this movie has a terrific turn by Thora Birch. Excellent.
86
Little Miss Sunshine (2006,  R)
Little Miss Sunshine
Dramatic and very funny at the same time, I really enjoyed this original and entertaining movie. The cast were brilliant and worked well together and made a very believeable family. It's Abigal Breslin who is the star of this show and she is backed up brilliantly by Toni Collette and Steve Carrell in particular. Although it looses steam a little towards the end, this movie will defiantly add some sunshine into your life.

Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story
Featuring a great cast consisting of a who's who's of British talent, this film can be a bit disjointed at times and does take a while to get going but stick with it as there's lots here to enjoy. There is hardly a plot to speak of and most of the film is a mockumentary but with this much talent you have to take a look.

Deep Impact
Disaster movie involving a comet has a story that will keep you interested until the outstanding finale.
92
Control (2007,  R)
Control
Charting the life of Ian Curtis, lead singer of the band Joy Division, this biopic is shot completely in black and white giving it a very serious documentary feel. In the leading role newcomer Sam Riley makes Curtis an engaging character while Samantha Morton as his wife is superb. The soundtrack is also brilliant adding emotion particularly to the very tragic finale.
93
Once (2007,  R)
Once
A terrific film deemed a modern day musical following the story of a busker and an immigrant who share a passion for music. The songs here are great and carry the film along nicely. Filmed on a small budget, this film is very simple and heartfelt and feels incredibly real. A treat from all these overblown and overhyped blockbusters.
