My Favorite Movies

nearly perfect. a contemporary of and kind of a poor man's version of the big lebowski. that's actually high praise, not a backhanded compliment. it's a real shame how precipitously writer/director john hamburg has fallen off (meet the parents? along came polly? yikes).

after the unbearable awfulness of The Science of Sleep, i was pleasantly surprised by my ability to not only sit through this entire movie, but also actually enjoy it. surprise!

it was hard to psych myself up to watch a(nother) french movie from the 30s, but, as always seems to be the case: hey this is really good! alright.

i watched this because sam rockwell is in it. i don't know what exactly tony shaloub is trying to do in this one, but whatever it is, i approve. i almost forgot tim allen was in this movie. almost.

this is an interesting movie: with griffith park in los angeles standing in for the mountains of korea, this movie came out a mere 6 months after hostilities began on that peninsula. apparently sam fuller turned down a studio offer to make this movie with john wayne as the lead. i can't imagine it wouldn't have suffered if he'd taken the money and done it with the duke. an oddly ambiguous war movie for the time. interesting. i like it!

i was really hoping this would be better. oh well.
