| Coco avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel) - PG-13 |
Lovely to look at but somehow frustratingly same old bio pic. And why do all the films stop with Chanel on her mirrored stairway (see the France Pisier flick from the early 80s and Shirley McLaine's horrible Lifetime TV movie of last year). And they all skip over the "Nazi" period. She lived until the early 1970s and had one disasterous comeback after WWII --where she was reviled for the Nazi lover. She did manage another comeback--I 'heard' they are planning another film, hopefully to explore more of this?
And Tautou whom I've enjoyed in other movies just seemed sullen not complicated and introspective. Interestingly adult way they dealt with French romance, sex and all -- |
