A well writen film and fun to wtach with some interesting surprises so many years later. A lot of folks talk about the Wayne & Maureen O'Hara star-screen chemistry BUT that is nothing compared o Wayne and Dietrich. Set in the Gold Rush days of Nome, Alaska (a theme the Duke would revisit years later in North to Alaska) this one is sooo much better, loaded with action, great dialogue giving 60's-80's pop songs a run for thier money on double meanings, and unbelievable scene with the Duke in Blackface. The film is reflective of the era it was made. He's wanted by the law so naturally he pains himseld black to "hide" in plain sight? Forget logic as the town is all 1899 white with a few natives you hear about but never really see. This was a comedy scene as Duke plays opposite the only real Black member of the cast in a typical role of the era as Dietrich's maid. But it is funny as the actress is very talented.

Somewhere this must still be considered the National sport of red state America. Bad film. Lame sport. Thank goodness the national nightmare is over.

Great film. the pacing is very different than most/all Western films and can be challenging for the 21st century ipod on the go crowd, but the acting and direction pays off in unbelievable ways and takes you on a journey you're not prepared for. It'll make you think and care about the characters.
