One of the most disturbing films you will ever likely see. Brilliantly acted throughout, with a few chills thrown in. From the start it grabs you and wont let go, at times you wont believe what you are seeing. Just like INSIDE and FRONTIER(S) (also just as disturbing and brilliant as this) despite the brutality involved in the movie, it is at the same time fully believable that something like this could happen. Violent, suspenseful, and tragic. You wont see many better foreign horror/thrillers than this. Fantastic.
Leave ya brain at the door and prepare for gore, claret by the bucket load with some cracking over the top sick kills. A simple story, but forget about that, just enjoy the gore fest and laugh yaself silly as the film buff gets his head ripped apart, with his brain ending up in 2 on the floor, and a chainsaw to the nads. And many more after that aswell. All in all a right good zombie movie, with added chuckly humor. Great stuff.
Even Ralph Bates quality performance cant save this. The monster was just a joke when it finally came along, and ruined the final third of the film. Bates part was the eye catcher on a different look on the frankenstein story. The black comedy that was thrown into the mix didnt help matters either, especially in the scenes that were meant to be on the serious side. This was the only Frankenstein movie that Hammer produced without the inclusion of Peter Cushing, and David Prowse replacing Christopher Lee as the monster was just laughable. Cushing wouldnt of lost sleep over this one.
Just shaded by the Hammer original, but this is a cracking sequel (of which there where many). Some dialogue aswell for Christopher Lee after been a mute for the whole of Prince Of Darkness. One of Hammers finest moments.
