I like the look and feel of this movie from the trailer - because of the way the music makes for a heart-pounding backdrop to the action scenes previewed
wow. looks heart-pounding, but also a bit depressing. but at least this MIGHT get people to think, MIGHT help some people open their hearts. would be nice, anyway.
I tell ya, this movie sure inspired A LOT of us 'back in the day' to pursue careers in law enforcement. Eastwood's attitude playing Harry was perfect - very fresh, and yet hardened by the carnage only a street police officer can understand.
A very important film that shows the power of the pen. It's also close to my heart, because it was filmed mostly at Reception Center West, of the California Institution for Men in Chino, California - the first prison I worked at. It's interesting to see Henry Fonda walking around the dorms that were once so familiar to me.
I loved this 'campy' movie from the first moment I watched it. THEN had the luck to find the ACTUAL Bagdad Cafe in Newberry Springs, California, just off the 40 freeway ... search it out, you'll love the food and atmosphere!!
Having worked for years in the bowels of some of the most extreme lockdown units of modern prisons, I can tell you the themes this film brings to light - are very true indeed. Get busy living, or get busy dying. It's that simple, and it's that complex.
One of Eastwood's best. He absolutely CAPTURED the attitude and demeanor of my best friend, Ed Kushwara, who passed away last year. He's most certainly NOT 'over-the-top' with how he brought this character to life. He's dead-on! And about the racist remarks, well OH WELL. This is not a bland, boring, "P.C." movie. It's real. The character has some deep, serious flaws, along with an amazing spirit. You end up loving the heck outta this guy, even WITH all his bad habits. Isn't that how real-life goes anyway? I salute you, Mr. Eastwood - I had a wonderful diversion from my stressful life, as I watched this most excellent movie. Thanks for another awesome film!
