1
Grandma's Boy (2006,  R)
Grandma's Boy
May seem ridiculous and low-brow, but there are some things that are allowed to be and end up freakin' hilarious... this is one... definitely for the gamer in all of us...
2
Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) (2001,  R)
Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
a quirky, catching character + storyline = MOVIE... reminded me of a '30s b&w film
3
Kids (1995,  NC-17)
Kids
Forget those "everything perfect" teen shows... this is your dose of raw reality... drugs, drinking, sex, partying, AIDS... While hardcore and cynical, Telly's (Fitzpatrick) last lines actually sum up the attitudes of teens today. Not for the conservative group...

RIP Justin Pierce
4
Cidade de Deus, (City of God) (2003,  R)
Cidade de Deus, (City of God)
want to see real life outside the paradise of rio de janeiro?... watch thi and be shocked how this kid survived all this brutality while others were not as fortunate (or even lucky)...
5
Boiler Room (2000,  R)
Boiler Room
this got me into business and wall street (where i work now)... acting was amazing and yes, what ben affleck says in the beginning is about 90% true...
6
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005,  R)
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Steve Carell takes the cake in this one with his one-liners and "condom" scene...
7
Crash (2004,  R)
Crash
crash is exactly what it is... people "crashing" into each other - either positively or negatively (mostly)... with each "crash", the better each person becomes... from Sandra Bullock's character to Terrence Howard's - no stone is left unturned and no heart left untouched... watch the scene with the little girl and you just know...
8
Ocean's Eleven (2001,  PG-13)
Ocean's Eleven
How can you beat the classic?? make the remake with George Clooney and Brad Pitt and step back... If you were not entertained by this movie, something is very wrong with you... that or you don't get how interesting the con can actually be... Hell, I wish I was Danny Ocean (though I am a girl with no chance to doing something as interesting as he did).
9
The Simpsons Movie (2007,  PG-13)
The Simpsons Movie
NON-STOP LAUGHS... every joke was well written... go see it, and if you did already, see it again and again!
10
Fracture (2007,  R)
Fracture
this movie grabs you and does not let you go... hopkins and gosling have an amazing on-screen chemistry where one plays off the other... this is THE 2007 drama movie of the year... 5 stars is an understatement...
11
Superbad (2007,  R)
Superbad
From beginning to end, this movie was hilarious... jonah hill definitely stole the screen with all his sex jokes paired "odd couple"-style with michael cera's thoughtful character... christopher mintz-plasse, seth rogan, and bill hader keep the laughs going with the whole "McLovin" deal... This is your 2007 comedy movie - on par with "The Simpsons Movie".
12
Half Nelson (2006,  R)
13
Black Hawk Down (2001,  R)
Black Hawk Down
raw, brutal, and brought a tear to my eye... excellent
14
The Last Samurai (2003,  R)
15
A Few Good Men (1992,  R)
A Few Good Men
this can be "citizen kane"'s equal... The prime rib of drama
16
Signs (2002,  PG-13)
Signs
see it for joaquin phoenix... had its moments
17
Europa Europa (1990,  R)
Europa Europa
how far would a young German Jew go to hide his identity??? Damn far. Must-watch.
18
American History X (1998,  R)
American History X
Despite the neo-nazi propaganda, it's very well-written with two very dynamic characters and ironic twists.
19
The Believer (2002,  R)
The Believer
DO NOT JUDGE THIS BY THE COVER!... if you want to see a really complex, powerful character (even as a child, he is very far from normal), see this...
20
Dirty Pretty Things (2003,  R)
Dirty Pretty Things
THIS IS NOT A PORNO (lol)... for all the audrey tatou fans out there... amazing cast and storyline!
21
Sweet Sixteen (2003,  R)
Sweet Sixteen
if you never grew up in Scotland, you will need subtitles b/c their accents make the dialog a little hard to understand. Martin Compston is blazing hot in this. One of my all-time favorites .
22
Thirteen (2003,  R)
Thirteen
If you like KIDS, you would like this one. It really makes you wonder: how young they are and how old they act. Just watch Tracy's shift from naivety to experience (a drama staple), and wonder why cries for help went unanswered. EXCELLENT
23
Midnight Mass (2003,  R)
Midnight Mass
classified as "horror" but it wasn't as scary as i thought it was... but the ritual scenes and some of the major vampire scenes kept me interested
24
Rushmore (1998,  R)
Rushmore
this put jason schwartzman on the map... a character you either really love and cheer on or you hate with a passion but still can't look away...
25
Slackers (2002,  R)
Slackers
the college movie of this generation... some of the trio's methods are little farfetched but not impossible... "cool ethan" rox!
26
Wedding Crashers (2005,  R)
Wedding Crashers
FRAT PACK DOES IT AGAIN!!!!... a mix of manlaw and crashing etiquette (yes it exists)... "i'm gonna find you" = best line!
27
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971,  G)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Deprived is the child (and adult) who does not see this... I WANT A GOLDEN GOOSE! I WANT ONE NOW!
28
Caddyshack (1980,  R)
Caddyshack
this movie is up there with "best 80s comedy"... bill murphy and the gopher were the best...
29
Super Troopers (2001,  R)
Super Troopers
Seen this more than 10 times (half of those with different friends), and I still laugh so hard. Farva is definitely one of the best played... Props to Kevin Heffernan and the rest of Broken Lizard !!
30
40 Days and 40 Nights (2002,  R)
40 Days and 40 Nights
proof that josh hartnett is not a comedy actor... the cover quote may say "sexy, fresh, and widely hip" but it is far from all three... why see it? 1) josh hartnett's roommate, 2) his co-workers...
31
Igby Goes Down (2002,  R)
Igby Goes Down
as much as the title sounds like a porno, it's far from that with its A--star-studded cast(not totally known but they did some hit movies - not A, not B) and indie-style plot. It deserves way more than just one quote - award maybe?.
32
Fight Club (1999,  R)
Fight Club
this keeps you hooked from beginning to end... might be hard to understand the first time around, but if you know about multiple personilty disorder and dissociative fugues, it takes away the confusion... p.s. Edward Norton's sex scene is hot!!!
33
Mulan (1998,  G)
Mulan
Disney takes the whole "princess" idea (ordinary girl becomes beautiful and - sometimes - raises her class status) to another level with an "anti-princess" (beautiful girl who is of a high family lowers herself for what she believes in) and a touch of adages and the oft-used animal sidekick... Hope there's more coming out like this...
34
Revenge of the Nerds (1984,  R)
Revenge of the Nerds
one of the many college comedies every one must see... nerd or jock =]
35
Domino (2005,  R)
Domino
saw this twice... only reason i saw it was for a woman who gave up her model- and actor-family to be in one of the toughest jobs out there... the plot had a lot of holes, keira did better movies, and the shots' blurred colors didn't add much... RIP Domino Harvey
36
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986,  PG)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
There's a little Ferris in all of us... Matthew Broderick could not have done better... the quintessential 80s teen film
37
Not Another Teen Movie (2001,  R)
Not Another Teen Movie
While Chris Evans was sexy, his character needed 2 be punched a few times... unless you've seen 80s & 90s teen films, you may not get it... a lot of b-list actors that deserve more...
38
Nightstalker (2002,  R)
Nightstalker
this is why you don't do crack people... saw it at nght - bad choice... this one is a toss up
39
Confidence (2003,  R)
Confidence
Gotta give it to my fellow Queens, NY native Ed Burns (who is NOT Ben Affleck)... they say it's like ocean's eleven - thought it was a little harder to follow...
40
Pact with the Devil (2004,  Unrated)
41
Traffic (2000,  R)
Traffic
What to say about TRAFFIC?... what can't I say? THIS IS A MOVIE!!!! like a real movie, not teen flick crap of today... yet another reason why drugs are bad (see what erika christensen does)
42
The Machinist (2004,  R)
The Machinist
for some reason, skinny christian bale is a little sexier than him at normal weight (call it my sick fantasy =P)... it's a movie in itself w/ many parallels and equally many disjoints... see it for yourself
43
Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982,  R)
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
This is a high school must-see... almost every character in this was/is/will be the people in your high school... not exactly "lol" funny, but you will at least smile with the Spicoli-Mr. Hand scenes... and guys will def. smile with Phoebe Cates
44
Bowling for Columbine (2002,  R)
Bowling for Columbine
2 words: michael moore... the south and midwest hate him, the north worships him... based on this, I might as well move to Canada...
45
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004,  R)
Fahrenheit 9/11
sparechange does a little more with the conspiracy and is a little more informative, but michael more strikes gold again - with the major cities that is... yep small town folk may not like what the fat man has to say... but he makes his point well... O Canada (see my Bowling for Columbine review)
46
Rent (2005,  PG-13)
Rent
The film may add to what the play cannot supply and makes it easier for those not living in NYC to get a glimpse of "actual reality", but the play is much better - more real and gritty... still the music is amazing, parts will make you cry, and the 99% of the original cast that returned lit up the siver screen as bright as the stage... one thing: rosario dawson =/= (does not equal) daphne ruben-vega...
47
American Beauty (1999,  R)
American Beauty
Whether you see it for the storyline or Mena Suvari's rose petal scenes... for wes bentley or thora birch... it's one of those flicks that can bring groups together...
48
Jawbreaker (1999,  R)
Jawbreaker
don'tcha just love that hyped-up catty high school drama? sure... rose mcgowan makes all that look like child's play... much better than mean girls...
49
Walk the Line (2005,  PG-13)
Walk the Line
joaquin phoenix did not just play "johnny cash" - he was the medium of the man's spirit... reese witherspoon's june carter cash was also amazing... what these two did to become them could blow your mind (see the commentary)
50
Four Brothers (2005,  R)
Four Brothers
diversity in the cast - no blatant racism... a twist ending... going from nothingness to hero by the end of the movie... it screams "JOHN SINGLETON DIRECTED THIS"... one of my favorite directors...
51
Thumbsucker (2005,  R)
Thumbsucker
Quirky is the best word to describe it - psychology major's must-see for the ADD and oral fixation...
52
Requiem for a Dream (2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
and you thought Pi was bad... take Pi - add color - remove the math - make it more drug-oriented and stretch out the 3rd person limited to 3rd person omniscient... that's requiem which if you watch at 2am will keep you up for hours... Aronofsky deserves the Oscar people...
53
Pi (1998,  R)
Pi
Hard to watch at first (since everything is stark black and white - not much gray) and some of what Max says will go over some heads (mathematician's wet dream). Still, it's intriguing, psychological, artistic... An Aronofsky masterpiece with Hitchcock-ian camera angles...
54
Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
Tarantino = many scenes interconnected but never in order? no. there is a pattern if you watch closely... the movie is gold... ultimate casting, plotline (which is actually there), and quick shots...
55
Beerfest (2006,  R)
56
Secretary (2002,  R)
Secretary
I bought this on a whim... and I don't regret it... both characters find themselves through S&M (yes - one hurts while the other one loves the pain)... this belonged more on the stage than the screen just because of its sense of realness... gyllenhall and spader were the best for these parts - due to their perpetually innocent looks... indie fans will love it - drama fans will love it - people seeking action will love the pillow they sleep on while it is on...
