Once (2007, R)
The best things about the film: hearing the music and watching natural chemistry between the two leading characters unfold. Apart from purely entertaining, most films (good or bad) succeed in exhibiting a heightened reality with only sparse moments of human truth to make that emotional connection. This film however felt very true to life, and I almost felt like I was watching a homemade documentary that somehow captured all the impromptu jam sessions or recording projects or even simple moments with friends or family that this pair experienced. Raw and precious and poignant all at the same time. Loved it. |
