Smokey and the Bandit Smokey and the Bandit PG
Carsploitation doesn't get much more fun than this, most movies in the genre have a live fast, die hard fatalism to them, but SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT takes the living fast part, and drives it laughing at Johnny Law (or in this case, Buford T. Justice) all the way across multiple state lines. The dying hard is the part they forgot about, and thankfully so, because it has no place in Hal Needham's world. Our heroes aren't free-spirited youth doomed from the beginning, but rather rednecks looking for a good thrill, their idea of thrill being transporting Coors Light illegally from Texarkana to Atlanta in 28 hours at the behest of gnome musician Paul Williams and his pappy.
The Lovely Bones The Lovely Bones PG-13
Peter Jackson just keeps letting me down this year. After producing the overhyped, underwhelming, and unintelligent DISTRICT 9, he directs THE LOVELY BONES, an novel adaptation that is poorly executed on nearly every level. The performances are the only thing propping this movie up, as Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, and Stanley Tucci give stand-out performances. However the story does not serve their efforts, Jackson puts the audience through various tense situations that have little or no consequence on the story itself, and given I've never read the novel, I don't have that to go on to fill in the blanks. Daniel Davis of Genrebusters.com described Peter Jackson as a filmmaker birthed of passion, and that's a statement I completely agree with, however this is the first Peter Jackson movie where passion is absent, and special effects naval-gazing replaces it, which wouldn't be so bad if the effects were interesting, but they aren't. Such a poorly told adaptation is inexcusable coming from the man who successfully adapted LORD OF THE RINGS, after doing this and producing a crappy sci-fi movie, it's time for Jackson to get back to work.

GoodFellas GoodFellas R
What's to be said? It's one of the few examples out there of a PERFECT movie. I've seen this flick more than I've seen any other movie out there, mainly because I'm never in the mood not to watch it. It's that good.
Halloween Halloween R
What can you say about this movie? It's simple, it's effective, it's suspenseful, and it's scary. While I do enjoy the craze of sub-par slasher movies that it spawned, it's way ahead of all of the pretenders.
