This film is too good to explain in words but I?ll try. Firstly, the screenplay by Kevin Smith is so accurate, realistic and just down right hilarious it makes the film work. Smith has created a situation and characters that are so true to life that it is scary how accurate he is. The screenplay is full of memorable lines. It is filled with great moments, and awesome one-liners. But it isn?t just great for that. The performances are extraordinary, the best coming from Jason Lee as Banky. Lee is brilliant/outstanding/perfect/awesome/tremendous/remarkable in this film. I cannot say enough about his performance. It is the funniest performance I have ever seen. Joey Lauren Adams plays the lesbian comic artist, and her performance shouldn?t be over looked. She is excellent also, about 6 clicks below Lee but she does something with the role, she brings a certain glow to it. She really does show that she can act. Then there is Ben Affleck, who isn?t as great as Lee and Adams, but is still good. He certainly entertains us as he wanders through this path but it is Lee and Adams who steal the show. But as a trio they accelerate this film into higher ranks. Smith should be very happy with this film, and I know he is, he has created a look at real life and he has made it hilarious. While the direction isn?t superb, all Smith does is put the camera down and film, it is very well done. He captures the three performances and that is all that really matters. If you haven?t seen this film, SEE IT! You will then understand what I?m talking about.
