OMG, wow. What a fantastic movie. Its Star Trek, but not as we know it. Totally rebooting a franchise while still using elements of the original. JJ Abrams, you are a genius !!! It loses a star for me only because of the lacklustre villian played by the usually reliable Eric Bana. Nero, looks evil but his motivations seemed a bit too convoluted. Chris pine is fantastic with that Kirk confidence and swagger. Syler, sorry, Zachary Quinto dons the Spock eyebrows and ears and pulls off a believable young Spock, complete with conflicting desires and emotions. Karl Urban does great as a young but still gruff Bones McCoy. Sulu is refreshingly realized by John Cho. Chekov has some wonderful moments, as does Uhura, played sexily by Zoe Saladana. And Simon Pegg almost steals the show as the lovable Scotty. New effects, new warps, new looking ship without looking unrecognizable. Not as much technobabble, but just enough to keep geeks like me trying to spot incosistencies. Overall, a good way to restart Star Trek for a new 21st Century audience without alienating (no pun intended) the older trekkies.
