the pinnacle of high boorman.
a mustachioed connery runs around like a maniac in a ponytail and a baggy red sunga for the entirety of this meditation on paralyzing malaise that predates both 'awakenings' and 'kids in the hall: brain candy'. boorman's unrelenting critique of class systems is presented in the form of an almost metaphysical social polarization that outstrips lang's 'metropolis' at every step. plus, the cool sped-up aging scene at the end totally puts eisenstein's clunky dialectical montages to shame.
