Away We Go

Excellent. A funny - and at times poignant - road trip movie about dysfunctional families and looking for answers. It is the antithesis of Mendes' previous film released in 2009, Revolutionary Road, as this is a couple who do genuinely care about each other and who don't have such blatant flaws in their relationship and this is certainly something they discover for themselves by going on this journey together and meeting all these dysfunctional family members. Mother to be, Verona questions her and partner Burt's affiliation together, "Are we fuck ups?" they certainly get their answer by the climax of their road trip.
Good... but that's about it, unfortunately. Had higher hopes after the string of great reviews. It's funny, it's well acted and some terrific on-screen chemistry is portrayed by Mays and Ahmed, but it's story - although miles above that Danny Dyer drab - is unremarkable and one or two questions were left unanswered come the end. Still, having been made for just £100,000 you've got to give the rookie director and producer their props for banging out something as solid as this.
