This is one of the 'must see' movies of 2006. All the lead actors are superb, as is the direction. My reservation comes in the credibility of the storyline - I don't believe a police force that knows of the existence of a mole would behave as it does in this movie and allow him to remain undetected for so long.
A truly outstanding movie, one of the best to come out of British cinema in the last few years. The whole cast is excellent, as is the adaptation, as is Alan Bennett, as always. The renditions of 'L'Accordioniste' and 'Bewitched, bothered and bewildered', and the line about a French Kiss had me howling with laughter.
A lovely movie. Peter O'Toole is superb and both Leslie Phillips and Richard Griffiths give top-rate supporting performances. This film is very witty and full of pathos. O'Toole easily deserved the Best Actor Oscar nomination for this performance and in any other year... Jodie Whittaker is an name to watch for the future and Vanessa Redgrave gives a brilliant vignette.
An outstanding film beautfully captured by Mirren. There were parts that I believe The Queen would have behaved differently but it was an entirely absorbing performance.
A truly outstanding movie. In any other year Dench would have won the Best Actress Oscar for this brilliant performance. Blanchett is totally believeable and her young partner is a name to watch for the future.
A very good film made all the more so by Toby Jones and Daniel Craig playing their distinctive roles and developing relationship to perfection, and foiled by Sandra Bullock. I believe all three were of Oscar-nomination stature. On top of this, it is an excellent insight of the Bible Belt as it was experiencing its own 'wind of change'.
Perhaps the greatest benefit of dramatising fact is that it's harder to overblow it for effect. Yes, my kind of movie for sure, but it's a taught and timed slow-burner. Chris Cooper gives a superb performance that leaves one respecting the man and in awe of his monumental treachery. Like Damon and DiCaprio, Philippe matures with age and gives a solid performance as the rookie agent. Laura Linney is again a fantastic support. This is one of the best movies of the summer and I think Chris Cooper could find himself being nominated for an Oscar.
