Babes in Toyland
Unrated
I still have some toy soldiers that were based on the ones in this movie. However, they have held up better than this dull fantasy. The idea of remaking Hal Roach's "Babes in Toyland" was probably very sweet to Walt Disney since Roach ripped him off in his version, using both Mickey Mouse and the "3 Little Pigs", but he just ended up with a dull mess (he even had a couple of actors play Laurel and Hardy types!). Look for a young Ann Jillian and an old Ed Wynn, but trying to keep awake during this one is NOT easy.
Babes in Toyland (March of the Wooden Soldiers)
Unrated
The original and still the best version of "Babes in Toyland". Unlike the hidious 1986 version, it creates a believable fairy tale world where people sing Victor Hugo songs. At the same time this would be pretty much forgotten if not for the comedy antics of Laurel and Hardy who provide much needed comic relief.

Can watch this again and again and again. I dread when they decide to remake this.

It's like somebody told Mel Gibson NOT to act like Mel Gibson. He seems to be channeling Steve McQueen. No smirking, no silliness, just hard guy throughout.
