A Few Good Men

People will always remember this ovie for the quotable lines and Jack Nicholson's famous scenes. But if you really pay attention, it's an incredible well thought-out courtroom drama with every character clearly defined and all of them learning, changing and moving the story along perfectly. Given that Aaron Sorkin wrote it, there is no surprise that the dialog is crisp, insightful and clever (if not a bit preachy and over the top). When I found out this had originally been a small stage play, it made perfect sense. The flow of the plot, the character-driven, intense interactions, the focus on no more than 2 or 3 characters at any moment, the showy speeches and grandstand dialog...all of it screams theatrical. It's even more amazing knowing Sorkin wrote most of it when he high out of his mind. Anyway, if you like courtroom drama and really smart inter-personal chemistry, this movie is pitch perfect.
