(This movie list is in order by year of release, not by preference. These are my best I've seen lately picks and my most memorable from the past picks, excluding ones everyone has seen.) This movie is disturbing and incredibly thought-provoking. It is one of the most completely engrossing movies I've seen in a while. It is hard to watch, but really makes you think about black and white and gray and what happens when two different altruistic ideals collide.
Lars and the Real Girl

In the commentary part of the DVD the writer she wanted to set up a scenario where someone is on the brink where a step one way would mean embracing life and healing and a step the other way would mean slipping into mental illness. What would happen if this person lived in a community that responded to him with compassion and understanding? This film is uplifting and an inspiring picture of what true community could look like.
